Yeah, rom-coms recently have mostly been crap. I agree with most of your post, although i think a movie can have raunchy comedy and still have complex, interesting characters(I think “40 year old virgin” is a good example of this).

I can only hope for more 500 Days of Summer, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but more than likely we will keep getting The Ugly Truth.
