Spider-Man 4 Cancelled

A few days after words spread out that Spider-Man 4 was going to be delayed indefinitely, Sony just announced that it canceled Spider-Man 4 after Sam Raimi and Tobey McGuire walked away from the franchise. (Deadline) The rift between the studio and the director were apparently too big to bridge as Raimi was reportedly unsatisfied with the screenplay and who the villains were going to be. There is also rumors that the studio wanted the movie shot in 3D which would have added colossal issues to the production and could have tipped Raimi’s hand. Sony is now planning a complete reboot with a new cast, a new origin story and a new director. Sad day for Spider-Man fans.

Are you happy or sad that the Spider-Man franchise is rebooting? Who do you think will play Peter Parker/Spidey, MJ etc… in the new reboot? (Please don’t say Michael Cera). How should the new director go about developing the storyline?

I was never a fan of Spiderman so am glad their won’t be a fourth one, this give Sam Raimi the opportunity to make the type of film he does best like Drag Me To Hell. The reboot treatment was inevitable because they made so much money!

  2. Really glad there won’t be a fourth one. The third one sucked so badly with the evil/emo Peter Parker. Now they want to reboot it instead, what the hell is the point of that? Why not just recast and continue the story. Batman wasn’t always the same guy and nobody thought Ledger as the Joker would work until they saw it.

Or even better, here’s an idea. Stop rebooting/reimagining/remaking movies we’ve already seen and find some talent to make something new! Wow, what a concept! Making a movie that we haven’t already seen before.

@ Andy: It looks like Sam Raimi has jumped on-board the World of Warcraft ship

@ The Film Reel: Totally agree that they should just continue with a new cast and director instead of rebooting. Make something new? That would actually require creativity and guts. Something in very short supply these days in Hollywood.

I’m not lamenting on the franchise’s demise, either. I quite like the first two, but not THAT much that I’m eager to see one after another. So reboot or not, I’m not sure I’ll watch it. Now Superman on the other hand, I wish they could do something with that, and a reboot is probably the only way to go with that one.

Btw, I heard a rumor a while back that Brandon Routh REALLY wants to join World of Warcraft. Apparently he’s a huge gamer.
