I don’t think anyone doubted the Phoenix mockumentary. In this day and age, nobody takes anything seriously.
On that note, thank god, I really didn’t want to hate him. He was/is awesome.
I really hope Rise of the Apes will exceed expectations (i’m a big fan of the original films).
Kind of disappointed about Newt, I’m not happy with the sequel route Pixar is taking (rather see original films).
I’m actually looking forward to Horrible Bosses because it will have Charlie Day in it (plays Charlie in Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
Yep, but Newt’s been (pardon the pun) dead in the water a while now, hasn’t it? Ah well…
And thanks for the plug, Castor!
you welcome!
Super 8 has me wonderfully curious as to what it’s going to be. Lots of talk about it being an old school homage to earlier sci-fi films, of the Spielberg like. Which sounds pretty exciting for me. Granted fanboys have already latched on like a moth to light, there’s already sights analyzing the trailer frame by frame! Man, wish I had that kind of time.
OMG, I wish I hadn’t seen it online the day before I went to Iron Man… I think it would’ve blown me away like the Cloverfield trailer did… I’ve heard speculation that it might be a prequel but I don’t see that… at the end of Cloverfield you see the monster fall from the sky in the distant background so I don’t know how it could’ve been here in the 70′s???
From what I’ve heard, Super 8 is actually not going to be shot until this fall, and will be a joint Spielberg-Abrams production. So, I don’t think it’ll have anything to do with Cloverfield, though they may let the worlds overlap.
It hasn’t been shot but they released a trailer before Iron Man??? What if Abrams dies in a plane crash or something??? Why would they do that???
PS… Stop Spamming, Ripley.
Me? Spam? I resent such an accusation!
Because Abrams is a jedi when it comes to the art of teasers. He did the same thing during the middle of shooting for Star Trek (remember the JFK + Enterprise being built teaser?). Also did a similar thing for Cloverfield (though he only produced).
Posting gets dirty when you put a $$ figure too it! Gotta be careful around here.
Nice! My girl Yvonne Strahovski is getting a big time Hollywood film role! Watch out for this girl, she’s the next big thing to come out of Australia.
great. another Men in Black. just what i wanted.
Definitely insightful. I wish that franchise would just shrivel up and leave Hollywood (but then, I wish the same thing of Will Smith).
I’m down ONLY if Smith does another video!
Your sarcasm is palpable.
I’m with you and the fish on this one though.
You know, that picture on the header there for Julia and Julia can be easily misinterpreted as the best feces fight ever.
lol, only for people with some odd passing thoughts
AKA… Aiden!
Judd Apatow annoys me most of the time, so him with Jen Aniston doesn’t exactly help. I only like her if her name is Rachel Green.
Why exactly is there a need for A Three Musketeers movie, and did I hear some rumblings how this is going to be in 3D. Jesus Christ. Enough already.
I have the same feeling about Apatow and Aniston. I’m pretty sure it will be another rom-com we will have seen 50 times before.
I don’t know. I can’t really imagine Jennifer Aniston saying ‘fuck’. She’s much too beige.
Okay, so does Ripley win for best comment? My thoughts precisely!
Of course I win. I’m a winner.
In all seriousness, she’s not like Katherine Heigl, who, at the time, maintained some sort of public flexibility, one of those high-strung personas that would drop precision F bombs like that. Jennifer Aniston is too laid back, and at the same time, too preppy.
And that was my elaboration. Enjoy.
This is the best feature ever. At some point you’ll have to share your sources. I could surf the internet all day at work and never come up with this much info.
Thanks Blake! Much appreciated
I am so sad about Vera dropping out of the Madonna project!!! I was sooooo looking forward to that collaboration. Such a pity.
I am, however, PSYCHED about the Kristen Wiig Clown Girl thing! That sounds like it has a lot of potential.
You may joke about the Madonna/Vera thing, but you do realise where this is going, don’t you? Another Madonna attempt at acting. I can hear the soundbytes already about how she feels “at one” with Mrs. Simpson’s American-ness in an English setting.
I, for one, am glad New Jersey’s only bragging right in a decade won’t go the way of that guy who played that Ukrainian translator in Everything is Illuminated.
JUDGE DREDD! Oh, man! I admit the mid 90′s Sly version is a guilty pleasure for me, but I’d love to see a Dredd film not indulging censors and go all out bold, like Lexi Alexander went with “Punisher: War Zone”.
I’m also looking froward to “Kane & Lynch” and “Super 8″. “Machine Gun Preacher” looks interesting, too. I just hope there’s more machine guns than preaching in it, though.
After “Gridiron Gang” The Rock really sunk low with all the crappy comedies. He needs to get back into the action genre. “Fast Five” is not what I had in mind, but still better than another “Tooth Fairy” or whatever.
Yea I saw parts of some crappy kids movie he was in called Race to Witch Mountain. Absolutely horrendous! Dude needs to get back to making cool action movie like The Rundown for example.
and can I just say, that Inception poster is bloody awful
I’m kinda diggin’ it… WHAT??? McG and I disagree??? WTF???
Is “awful” street slang for “good”? Nah, thought not.
((Yep, I is street))
Though I am with Kaiderma on this. Sooooooooo looking forward to that film.
I’d have to agree with you Ross (gasp!) but yeah that poster is bizarro (and not in a good way).
I am super pumped for December – Tron Legacy AND True Grit. My Christmas gift is Jeff Bridges – thank you Santa.
Who knows with Tony Scott anymore?
Sometimes he’s genius and sometimes a giant trainwreck.
I’m very excited about “The Tiger” though.
And seriously? The Smurfs? I have to go gloat to my husband who told me to stop showing our kids old episodes, because they’d never be cool again and other kids would think they were weird.
Game, Set, Match to this Matriach of Movie/Television predictions!
Smurfs is a tragedy but Hank Azaria looks awesome as Gargamel!
I have always felt that Gargamel has been gravely misunderstood. I hope he is portrayed properly.
Thanks for another shoutout Castor!
What really disappoints me as far as this week’s news is the continuation of MIB. Loved the first, loathed the 2nd and am not optimistic about 3…especially with it going th route of 3D (couch, FAD, cough) which only serves to yank a few more dollars form John Q movie goer while simultaneously getting to use a cute tie-in title to market it all.
Though on the flip side, I’m actually morbidly interested in Judge Dred 3D…hey stranger things have worked right?:P
la la la
plugging my ears.
I don’t want to know ANYTHING about Inception. People look at me funny in Iron Man 2 when I plugged my ears, closed my eyes, and started humming to drone out the trailer.
Castor – I’m not sure if you’ve seen “Antichrist” but I would love to see your review of it. Assuming you have Netflix – it’s available on instant.
Actually, I did see it. Red reviewed it so I didn’t but I did not enjoy it much. I thought that after the initial black and white sequence, it was quite bland and slow for the first hour. Then Hell is unleashed and I thought the violence, nudity and graphic sights were shocking and gross just for the sake of controversy. Excellent performances from Dafoe and Gainsbourg though.

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand well, a lot of it. The imagery and symbolism is just so overbearing but I’ve watched the opening sequence over 50 times and I think the opening is flawless – sheer perfection.
I don’t know what to think about a lot of it, but for me personally – I feel that it’s an important film that needs to be studied and evaluated forever.
I find that I really enjoy and taken by things that I don’t fully understand.
I personally think it’s one of the best films of the decade and of all time.
I’m sorry that you didn’t care for it, but I’m really glad you watched it.
Antichrist, I can’t figure out, is either an abrasive crowd-riser, offensively offensive for the sake of it, or a brilliant avant-garde cautionary tale against therapists treating their own spouses. Or something.
So it is said.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Von Trier just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Everything he does is so cynically calculate to be “provocative”. I’m not advocating that cinema shouldn’t be provocative, just that being provocative for its own sake is… well, pointless. You need to provoke something – you can’t just say “I provoke” (or “je provoke”, depending on the level of your pretension) and hail yourself as the greatest film maker that ever graced this green earth.
Yes, an Antichrist thread. I spent weeks trying to decide what I thought of it, and I still don’t know but I’ll go with what what Darren said. Von Triers is, and I’ll say it again, just someone I feel taunts you just because he can…and I don’t respond well to practical jokes.
Great, hopefully Phoenix takes a decent role in something soon to take that bad taste out of my mouth.
I know the Phoenix thing pisses people off but if this was just a big Kaufman-esque performance… I gotta give the guy mad props!
All right, so I love Anthony Hopkins, but were there really no other more appropriate Arabian actors to choose from? I never understand why they do such things…
Wow, that’s some cast for the Three Musketeers, hope they got someone else other than Bloom though, maybe Rupert Friend?
Btw, I was sad that Farmiga dropped out of ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ due to her pregnancy. Would love to see her opposite Butler. Btw, LOVE that pic you chose of him, that’s what he wore the night I ran into him at TIFF!
It’s really too bad about Joaquin Phoenix. He was/is a stellar actor, but he seems to have just got a little loose upstairs.
