Michael found this shy, inexperienced girl, plucked her out of total obscurity thus giving her the biggest shot of any young actresses’ life. He told everyone around to just trust him on his choice. He granted her the starring role in Transformers, a franchise that forever changed her life; she became one of the most googled and oogled women on earth. She was famous! She was the next Angelina Jolie, hooray! Wait a minute, two of us worked with Angelina – second thought – she’s no Angelina. You see, Angelia is a professional [...]

With each passing trailer Splice is looking more and more like Species without the creepy sex appeal of Natasha Henstridge (or the awesomeness of Ben Kingsley, Forrest Whitaker, Alfred Molina, and Michael Madsen).
Paul Dano in Cowboys & Aliens definitely peaks my interest. Loved his work in There Will be Blood and Little Miss Sunshine. He’s sort of becoming a poster boy for films nobody hears about.
The idea of a Wizard of Oz sequel seems kind of suspect, but I really enjoyed Whip It, so I’ll definitely watch whatever Drew Barrymore directs next…no matter how crazy it sounds.
I actually enjoyed the last Wizard of Oz sequel that Disney produced (Return to Oz), but I accept I’m in my own on that.
I liked it too, when I got over my indignation. I rather enjoy mindfuck movies. Like Southland Tales.
*ducks*
1) I saw St. Vincent, and I thought about the awesome singer, and was disappointed to find it was something else. You teasing bastard.
2) This Megan Fox thing is kind of awesome.
3) Channing Tatum thing should be interesting, provided they don’t try to shove it down our throats as the next Trainspotting (I don’t know the tone of the book, then, do I?)
4) I like Drew Barrymore as a director better than as an actress. All is going according to plan…
Transformers 3 is literally going to make no money now…everyone knows that the robots are just a sideshow to Megan Fox.
In fairness, the odds of me paying to see Transformers 3 have dramatically increased. Megan Fox has always struck me as an idiot. And not in the stereotypical “ditzy” idiot, more the “pretends she’s more important than she is and says irritating and stupid things” sort of idiot.
It’s one thing to be an idiot and another to bite the hand that fed you. Transformers 3 will definitely gain from having an actress who doesn’t make you cringe every single time she says a line.
Megan Fox might be the new archtype for ‘generic’. Just saying.
To each his own, but I know a large group of people who go see that movie just to look at Megan Fox. Then again, one only has to look at the failure of “Jennifer’s Body” to see eye candy = money.
Pardon me, I meant to say that eye candy ≠ money.
I think you nailed that in a nutshell Darren. And I also agree with Castor. She has bit the hand that fed her, and if you have any questions about that classic downfall, ask Trent Reznor, he’ll explain it to her, if anyone could get it through her thick head.
I GENUINELY hope that the Rollercoaster Tycoon game is just people building ridiculously stupid rides and crashing them in a spectacular fashion! (Like anyone did anything other than that game… just me?… I’m a sociopath?… well that’s just great.)
Like Monopoly, I’m sort of looking forward to it just for the sake of seeing how they put the concept on screen.
Now, I know making a Pacman: The Movie joke is so very blase…
Not too sure whether Naomi Watts can pull off Marilyn Monroe, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Picture just released:
http://www.cinemaspy.com/article.php?id=4480
I would post her as the best option for the role though. Who else would you put in her place?
Scarlett Jo-whatever, superficially. If she would go back to her earlier filmography, she could even handle it acting-wise.
But, really, Marilyn Monroe had a curiously different look about her. If you wanted someone to capture the onscreen and offscreen antics, the closest real-life parallel would be (gulp) Lindsay Lohan.
Scar-Jo does have the appearance and at one time displayed the ability to act……..now? Not so much.
I like the idea of Naomi (if she gained some weight, she is so thin it’s worrisome) because she is so insanely talented, and like someone noted, she made me believe a giant gorilla fell in love with her. I’m sold.
Lindsay Lohan…………..I understand where your coming from, but *shudders* bleh! ha!
Univarn.. i share your love of Species. the best crap movie ever. Forest Whitaker should have his Oscar taken off him for his work in that – it really is abominable.
man Castor.. that is a lot of Casting News…
good on Megan Fox for leaving Transformers
having quite enjoyed Jennifer’s Body, i have a sneaky suspicion that Miss Fox might actually be a decent little actress. And while she might pick up lots of cash, she isnt gonna do much acting in Transformers 3.
I think it was an Empire post a few months back that asked why movies like that needed the same cast anyway, thought it was a rather good point. does the next Transformers movie really need Shia LaBoeuf? of that soldier guy? Will audiences greet the new trailer with, ‘Brilliant! the annoying mom and dad are back!’
Transformers movies should have a shifting cast I reckon.
Yea, guess it’s the season people get jobs. As for Fox lol, those are pretty out-there claims. I suspect she will have a hard time finding decent roles now. People who are difficult to work with are avoided like the plague once directors, CDs and producers start putting red flags on you.
oh, and Olive… Naomi Watts made me believe she was in love with a giant monkey.
i reckon Norma Jean will be a walk in the park for her
For the second time I’m agreeing with McG this week, what’s happening??! But yes, Naomi can pull this off. I’d rather see her in this role than the seemingly predictable casting of Scar Jo (being that she’s made to look like Marilyn in those D&G ads).
Naomi Watts needs to plump up a bit for the part but yea she is obviously at a whole another level from Scar-Jo in terms of acting chops.
I’m actually against Fox leaving “Transformers 3″. Not because I think Megan’s irreplaceable or something like that, but simply because of continuity. Mikaela and Sam have built a relationship for the last two sequels and all that, and now they split up after all they’ve been through.
Not that it’s gonna ruin the film, but it does kinda suck.
Thanks for the mention about my post on Generation X and the ’80s!
You welcome. Great post!
I’m definitely excited that Charlie Kaufman is having some kind of involvement in the Kung Fu Panda 2 script. The first one was really enjoyable.
Bruce Willis joining Looper is awesome as well. I loved Brick and The Brothers Bloom.
Monkeyball is getting more intriguting. Still wished Demetri Martin was part of the project.
Site was down about 15 minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience. My wordpress files keep getting infected with some sort of virus that redirects visitors. It’s relatively easy to clean up but this is like 4th time in as many weeks. Guess it’s time for a new host as it seems to be nearly exclusively a GoDaddy issue.
I use Bluehost and have had *knock on wood* no problems.
My kids are obsessed with RollerCoaster. How can this be a movie? I shouldn’t even ask huh.
Fincher taking a hold of 20,000 Leagues? SOLD.
And yeah to Evangeline Lily. Now she’s not married to LOST we can see her start a movie career. I would like to take Josh Holloway with her wherever she goes though.
And as always thanks for the shout out.
Fincher is worrying me on his film selections lately…
They certainly haven’t been predictable or making any clear amount of sense, but I love him and have nothing to say but positive things until I’m proven wrong.
Am I the only one excited about Immortals?? Dez, where are you? I saw some great video journals with Tarsem yesterday, and I’m already impressed. That’d surely blow Crap of the Titans out of the water next year!
I’m listening to the LAMMY announcement podcast and you all are getting a LOT of nominations! Much deserved…glad to know I helped get you there!
Haven’t had a chance to tune in yet but after I come back from the gym, I will!
You led the nominations with 8. Pretty much a clean sweep…perhaps I have just saved you time listening to that long podcast. It goes on for quite some time…fairly interesting listen though.
Thanks Marshall. Much appreciated, I’ll listen to it in the background since Dylan, Rachel, and company took so much time and effort to put it together.
I’m also not spamming, I find it incredible how many nominations you got. I mean, you fully deserve them all, but seriously, bravo.
Yep, with a handful others of my favorites I sent you guys a ton of votes, but you already know I love you!!!!!!!!!!!! After all, you’re part of the faaaaamily!
Allow me a moment to offer my congratulations as well – freakin’ eight nominations! Dude, you’re this year’s SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!
Very well deserved…good luck.
Thanks Rip, Heather and Mad! It’s all thanks to you. This site would be lifeless without its dedicated readers
@ Mad – “Slumdog” wasn’t the top nominated film of the year; that would be “Benjamin Button” with 13. “Slumdog” had 10 nominations; it WON 8 Oscars.
“Inglourious Basterds” and “The Dark Knight” had 8 nominations … now those are movies that fit the comparison. Those are some pretty doggone good movies.
Congratulations and well deserved. I haven’t heard the whole thing myself (damn internet being slow), but I know you picked up a well deserved “most prolific” nomination.
Slightly looking forward too Splice – weird.
I hated the trailer Frank!
Hey Castor not meaning to spam or anything, but going around, and saying congrats to some of my favorite bloggers for their LAMMY nominations. You with 8, leading the pack, tough competition for me but I shall do my best
I thought you deserved a brainiac nomination Univarn. You and Darren as well. I rarely have the need to comment on either of your sites, because you guys pretty much say everything better than I possibly could.
Ah no. Univarn and Castor definitely deserved a nomination for brainiac. I, on the other hand, have difficulty spelling Scorsese.
thanks for the kind remarks, but I’m with Darren a bit on this one. I may sound smart at times, but I can barely spell brilliant most days of the week, let alone brainiac (thank god for firefox’s spell check).
Hey hey hey humble men! I’m an English major with the worst grammar in the history of blogging. I’m the queen of run on sentences, and more often than not guilty of horrid typos. But……….I can spell. This all means nothing.
You guys are both pragmatic in your reviews and have that rare ability to translate thought into writing in a way that’s both tangible and fun to read, and that is what makes you eligible for the Brainiacs in thoughts.
*hands on hips*
Thanks Ryan and Darren. Very much appreciated
You, know with all the high profile people joining Transformers 3, it would seem Bay is going for a more sophisticated approach to his battle bots series.
As much as people are saying Fox’s firing will hurt the series, to that I say, “have you seen Iron Man 2, or The Dark Knight?”:P
Still gonna be a bit heartbreaking not seeing her on IMAX…but like the title of this funny post from TheSuperficial.com says, “Megan Fox was fun while she lasted (2007 – 2010)”
“Megan Fox was fun while she lasted.”
I am fighting the urge to let my inner twelve year old say, “That’s what he said…!” Yep, there’s a special hell reserved for me and people who speak at the cinema.
Testing… I switched the site from GoDaddy to InMotion. It’s incredible how much faster it is. Let’s hope the last few kinks are resolved soon and we will be back to regular posting
I still think Bay is a Nazi.
I think I just peed myself laughing.
I am dying to watch Splice…
one of the few films I’m eager to see this year.
I like that you all give a preview of what’s coming up on Anomalous Material in the coming week. Hopefully I can get prepared enough this summer to be able to do something like that…
The “Splice” poster – intriguing as it is – made me think it’s not a film for those men (and women) who are leg lovers!

A few things that jumped out at me:
- Fincher’s view on 20,000 Leagues should be very interesting. Can’t say that I haven’t liked any of his movies.
- McGregor and Scott Thomas in the same movie? Yes, please.
- Ditto with Lilly and Mackie. Hopefully Mackie continues to grow as an actor as he has the past few years. I still remember looking at pictures for The Hurt Locker, and thinking, ‘Holy shit, that’s Papa Doc!’ Which then put me into deep thought about how the different actors of 8 Mile have actually done pretty well for themselves, and was a pretty underrated cast (and movie).
