I actually had to think and debate about where my vote should go for Groundhog Day and Zoolander. Zoolander is one of those guilty pleasures films (sadly). However, I went with Groundhog Day!
The top two on this are certainly interesting – are either primarily comedies? I’m not so sure.
This is one of those days where I’m really voting oddly I have to admit. Big Lebowski and Anchorman are two films I fully respect the popularity of, but don’t adhere too. So for the first one I went for Garden State, it being a feature favorite of mine. Though in terms of comedy I could vote either way for Big Lebowski, Garden State, Anchorman, or Death at a Funeral. Since I laughed at all of them roughly the same amount. I just happen to enjoy the story, and characters, of Death at a Funeral and Garden State much more.
I hate to go chalk on the other two, but I shall. Love Groundhog Day and Dr. Strangelove. Though I must admit I’ve always had a soft spot for Bill and Ted, harms my nostalgic soul to vote against them.
Go Death At A Funeral!
I agree!!! So much better than Anchorman…looks like it has a shot so far!
I feel like that’s a pretty close match-up for day 2. “Death at a Funeral” has a massive cult following, and deservedly so. I voted for it.
YES again, Heather. Looks like it’s losing against Anchorman but I stand by my vote!
No idea how Death at a Funeral even made the cut, and the fact that it’s winning – against the beloved Anchorman, no less – is shocking. That can’t last.
I know! What the hell is going on this morning???
I don’t know how it’s winning either. Ron’s clearly ticked a lot of people off. I would ahve figured it a shoo-in.
Go f*ck yourself, San Diego.
I have that saved as a movie quote on my iPod. Love that scene.
Saved. Fear not, vampire hunters. I voted against yonder.
Anchorman will come through…I think!
It was pretty straightforward for me again – went for each of the favourites. Groundhog Day and Zoolander was a good match-up but I went for Bill Murray because it’s a film that has stood the test of time. As much as I like Zoolander, it doesn’t have the re-watch value of Groundhog Day.
Looks like you are right, it was really close for a little while but it’s pulling through!
Wow, this is like election night! I’m waiting for you to say, “Over to you Red.”
“We’ve noted a strong upswing in support for Anchorman among the traditionally conservative voting blocs in Europe. It’s still up in the air, as Asia comes on-line this evening.”
The first was hard having never seen them. So I went with The Big Lebowski. The Dude abides. \m/\>_</\m/
I’ve never seen either of them either, but from the bits & pieces I heard about it looks like the Dude is a sure winner.
Death At a Funeral versus Anchorman is pretty evenly matched; Anchorman, as much as it has my vote, does not have a stoned Alan Tudyk, which is almost a deal breaker.
Yup, I picked Death at a Funeral largely because of Tudyk. Plus I just love British comedies!
Crossing my fingers for “Death at a Funeral”!!!! And stop criticizing the seeds here people!!! You have a problem with them, put up your own. They’ve done an awesome job here!
Thanks Peter, I will paypal you that money we talked about later today
Ha! No problem, man. Seriously, excellent job. I’ll paypal you money if Funeral pulls the upset…C’MON!!!
NED?! NED RYERSON?!
man, those were all a no-brainer
why is Garden State even on the list?
its not a comedy. and its not, uh, funny.
…yeah but it thinks its funny!
I hate the fact that I voted chalk for all those.
That’s ok….they are chalk for a reason.
I went with Groundhog’s Day over Zoolander but having either of these knocked out on the first round is a crying shame!
Will Ferrell has got to be the un-funniest person ever. “Death at a Funeral” all the way for me.
I voted Garden State even though I don’t really see it as a comedy. The Dude doesn’t abide and I really have grown tired of the people that live their lives wishing they were The Dude. It’s gotten to the point where they have made me hate the movie.
I’m hoping Dr. Strangelove takes this contest all the way to the end. One of my top three favorite Kubrick films.
I am still having a hard time believing Not Another Teen Movie did not get into this list. That being said, Super Troopers will take it. If you have not seen, go now, watch it, and you will agree. “I wanna God damn liter of cola!” Lmao, gets me every time.
Odd… smells like… poopy butt
Okay…poopy butt or not…Not Another Teen Movie is utter crap apart from Mia Kirshner. However, he/she’s got a point with Super Troopers – a bit like Reno 911 but better!
I am quite relieved that Not Another Teen Movie didn’t make the shortlist, nor did any Seltzer and Friedberg films. My faith in humanity endures.
Donny you’re out of your element!
Big Lebowski all the way. One of the best movies ever. And brought about the unquestionably best movie drinking game ever.
Looking forward to seeing Big Lebowski take it all. I’m sad that Bill & Ted is gonna get knocked out so early. I love that movie.
Dr. Strangelove has to take it. One of the sharpest satires of all time and incredibly funny, especially thanks to the brilliant Peter Sellers.
Poor Death at a Funeral. Not sure why the big following for Anchorman. 2 completely different kinds of comedy here. Break out the casket for the better, funnier film, I suppose…
