Hmmm… now things are getting tough.

  2. I had a hard time deciding between Vacation and Ghostbusters, but I ultimately decided on Ghostbusters. Anything Bill Murray is in is gold in my opinion.

  3. Dan says:

Oh the Ghostbusters/Vacation one was tough…went for Ghostbusters in the end. The early voting between Some Like It Hot and Galaxy Quest is a bit strange. Galaxy Quest is good but it doesn’t hold a candle to Billy Wilder’s masterpiece.

  4. Oh man, no love for Vacation! That was a great movie but up against Ghostbusters makes it tough, had to go for Ghostbusters though since it’s got ghosts in it.

  5. OK, Some Like It Hot is infinitely better than Galaxy Quest. It better not get knocked out this early.

  6. Univarn says:

Some Like it Hot is just pure classic. I loved Galaxy Quest the first time I saw it, but there’s really just no comparison (surprised it’s as tight so early on as it is).

It’s painful for me to vote against Lemmon and Matthau, but I’m saving my support for them for the Odd Couple.

While I know Fletch will hate this, never was a huge fan of Idiocracy (loved the concept more than the execution), so 40 Year Old Virgin wins there.

Finally, Vacation vs. Ghostbusters is a tough early round matchup. But Ghostbusters is just so ingrained in my family viewing and history I dare not vote against it.

    • Fletch says:

Having not seen Some Like it Hot made for an easy Galaxy Quest vote for me – I’d imagine others are in the same boat. I don’t expect GQ to win, though.

Idiocracy is a polarizing flick. I dig 40YOV a lot, but I threw a vote towards Idiocracy in support anyway. Again, I don’t expect it to win, either, and that’s fine with me.

I’m the lone voter (thus far) for Vacation as well. I didn’t mean to be such a rebel today, it just worked out that way, I guess (after all, it’s not like I checked the results before voting).

Hot Fuzz over Grumpy was a real easy choice, though.

      • Darren says:

I’ll stand up for Galaxy Quest any day of the week, but am really surprised it is doing so bloody well…

      • Dan says:

If Some LIke It Hot gets knocked out at all I’d be surprised. I was expecting it to be a contender for the title. But it shouldn’t be losing out to Galaxy Quest, despite the sci-fi comedy being quality.

      • Univarn says:

I think Fletch is definitely not alone on Some Like it Hot. Despite it being a pure classic, a lot of people just don’t go back to the 50′s and 60′s (or even earlier) to check them out. Which is a shame. Hoping they make it through anyways.

But I’m sure that will be the undoing of The Great Dictator since it’s a movie I know a lot haven’t seen, and it’s going up against (I think) Finding Nemo… a movie everyone has seen.

      • Dan says:

Some Like It Hot is pulling slowly ahead!

Yeah, you’re right, less people have seen it and its a shame when it comes down to a contest of the films most people have seen. But that’s going to happen, you can’t vote for a film you haven’t seen and it would be unfair to vote for a film purely on critical reception.

I’m not looking forward to The Great Dictator versus Finding Nemo – Nemo is (arguably) Pixar’s best movie, it would hurt to vote against it.

      • Univarn says:

Though an argument could also be made Dan that you shouldn’t vote against a movie you haven’t seen. But I can’t expect everyone to have that same sort of viewpoint as I do.

      • Dan says:

…People are encouraged to vote therefore the natural instinct when deciding between two films, one of which you haven’t seen, is vote for the one you have seen rather than not voting at all. I’m guessing that’s happening with Some Like It Hot. Other’s will no doubt cite the more contemporary humour of Galaxy Quest making them laugh more than SLIH. But SLIH is timeless, and brilliant, and genius. It makes me laugh!

      • Darren says:

Yep, the reason I haven’t voted too much is that (to my secret film buff shame) there are a lot I haven’t seen – I don’t think it’s fair for me to do that. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to vote however they please – it’s their vote. It might be unfair on the less well-seen movies, but such are the perils of democracy.

  7. Andrew says:

Hot Fuzz wins over Grumpy any day of the week, but the rest could easily change depending on what I’m in the mood for. Galaxy Quest versus Some Like it Hot is totally unfair– don’t make me choose between those two!

I will say that for most of us, Ghostbusters versus Vacation shouldn’t even be a contest.

  8. Heather says:

I voted for Galaxy Quest and have pull a call to voting on our facebook to vote for Galaxy Quest instead. :)

I gotcha on reddit and actually got you on twitter twice, so you should be covered today dearest Red and Castor. :)

BTW, Ghost Busters is far better and Hot Fuzz was one of my favorite comedies of the decade.

  9. Alex says:

I sort of hate to vote against Galaxy Quest so early since I really love that movie, but it’s just no competition against Some Like it Hot. Damn these hard decisions!

  10. Apparently I’m one of the few who didn’t vote for Hot Fuzz (which I didn’t even find funny).

(When it starts coming down to the grind Castor, I think you should allow us us to start campaigning for our favourite on our own blogs.)

  11. Luke says:

Whoa – I know people like Galaxy Quest, but I’m kind of shocked at the lack of love for Some Like it Hot. Is this going to be the first major upset of the tournament??

    • Castor says:

Are we going to see the first upset of the tournament?? This is really close but remember how Anchorman had some early troubles but then pulled through :)

  12. Jaccstev says:

Hot Fuzz is totally rockin’… Love that film.

  13. Gringo says:

I thought that the Ghostbusters/Vacation votes would have been closer…

  14. I’m one of, like, six people who voted for “Idiocracy,” but I don’t care. I will defend this film until my dying day!!!

  15. rtm says:

Cool, looks like ALL my picks are aligned with the votes. Glad to see Galaxy Quest won, LOVE that movie!! Today’s actually an easy one for me.

  16. Jose says:

In what world is Galaxy Quest funnier than Some Like It Hot? Someone fix this!

  17. Idiocracy all the way! And also here we have Hot Fuzz which is the best comedy ever.

  18. Red says:

Wow, Heather has worked her magic and Galaxy Quest has pulled ahead yet again! Kinda shocking. I love me some Galaxy Quest, but over a classic like Some Like it Hot? It’s a toughy.

I wanted to vote for Grumpy Old Men, even though I think the sequel is better, but had to go with Hot Fuzz.

  19. Ripley says:

Ghost Busters versus Vacation? Tis a tough one you’re throwing.

  20. Peter says:

I really enjoyed Galaxy Quest, but it is a shame that it is running so close to a terrific classic like Some Like it Hot. It reads like many haven’t even seen it, which is a shame and obviously a younger audience is voting for the more recent film. Hope there is no upset on this draw. Yes, Ghostbusters/Vacation was the first one (in my opinion) that is pretty evenly matched up. Touch pick.

  21. Packerken says:

Man it hurt to vote against Vacation. But I’m going to cross the streams and stick behind Ghostbusters till the end. It’s no marshmallow.

  22. Ross McG says:

glad my vote put Galaxy Quest level with Some Like It Hot But Some Think Its The Most Overrated Comedy Ever Made

  23. Fitz says:

Hot Fuzz over Grumpy Old Men was a no-brainer.

  24. Aiden R. says:

It’s probably cinematic blasphemy that Galaxy Quest is beating out Some Like It Hot, but Galaxy Quest is soooooo goooooooooood. I need to watch that one again.

  25. Kaiderman says:

How in the f–k did Ghostbusters face Vacation in the first round? Something is rotten in the state of Finland… if you know what I mean… those would both be in my Top 10 all time!

  26. Kaiderman says:

Oh, and unless 40 Year Old Virgin ends up facing an opponent similar to Vacation’s, I think it might make a run at this!
