I’m not at all surprised to see Pineapple Express get crushed by Superbad, and they’re both great movies so it’s all good. But Happy Gilmore over The Meaning of Life? For shame, voters!
It’s been a while, but I recall hating The Meaning of Life. That explains my vote.
I’m with Fletch. I adore The Holy Grail and The Life of Brian, but The Meaning of Life… is just crass. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing special.
I didn’t like it either Fletch. As far as Monty Python goes I’ll take Holy Grail and Life Of Brian please.
Well, Monty Python films aren’t for everyone. They are an acquired taste, i think so people vote against it — or simply have never seen it over the much newer Happy Gilmore.
What you said, Peter. I’m not even a big fan of Sandler but I LOVE Happy Gilmore, that fight with Bob Barker is priceless!
Perhaps I should try a new tactic and just start cheering against the films I want to see win? I seem to be having a negative effect on some of my all time favorites (not all mind you, just some). Today I am/am not voting for/against M*A*S*H… interpret as you will (though my top 100 might give away my vote there).
Love Major League, The Jerk never lived up to the hype for me. A bit 50/50 on Pineapple Express and Superbad, both are even in my book. Will go Superbad for argument’s sake. The Meaning of Life, not my favorite Monty Python… but I’ll vote for it all the same (as a kid Happy Gilmore was hilarious, watched it again recently… only laughed at Bob Barker, sat in silence rest of the time).
Easy one for me today. Happy Gimore, Superbad, MASH, and The Jerk – I think that was all four top seeds.
M*A*S*H is absolutely hilarious. I’m having a hard time thinking of a movie I would choose over it for the purpose of this tournament.
Kevin and I find very little we can agree on. But I’m with him 100% on this one.
ahah it was an emergency addition as it wasn’t even on the original 128
Superbad rules..
Superbad v Pineapple Express is HARD … I chose Pineapple Express solely for James Franco’s awesomeness.
PS – Out of curiosity, when is the blog review coming? We are halfway through the month and I’ve been bending over backwards to put on the Ritz on my site, anticipating it coming every day…
Ok cool, I will publish the post at 1PM CT
Oh, ok, I was just wondering…not trying to guilt you into it or anything.
Oh god. If Happy Gilmore makes it past the first round, I may picket. I don’t have any particular attachment to the Meaning of Life, but I’m behind it 100%!!
Whats there to picket? You do realize that Galaxy Quest has already moved on to the next round? If there were ever a reason to form a protest then surely that protest would be centered around how a nomination like Galaxy Quest was ever taken seriously !
Funnily enough I think Happy Gilmore is one of Sandler’s best films. Can’t say that about Meaning Of Life. It features my favourite sketch (Sex Education) and some other great skits but overall it isn’t Life of Brian or Holy Grail.
I’ve always liked Pineapple Express more than Superbad. McLovin’s character is so grating that I’ve lost interest in the rest of it.
I think they both start out great, are still funny towards the middle, and have really weak endings. But I did like Superbad more.
Both films seemed hand-cuffed by the notion that the end of the film needed the characters to hold hands and be okay.
I think I’m fond of Superbad because it was towards the start of the whole “loser” comedy era that the naughties ushered in. They’ve become so common that they’re practically banal at this stage, but I’m still fond of the early Atapow-esque comedies.
Whoever votes for Ricky Bobby over MASH is nuts (EDITED).
I voted for the wrong movie. Can someone swap a vote with me? Plllleeeaaassseeee?
Ha! That just happened to me yesterday! See Darren, I’m not the only one
I never said you were. I’ve done it several times (not here, though – the stakes are too high to click without double-checking).
Monty Python foreva!
I haven’t seen The Liar in forever, but I haven’t heard of thst baseball one, so…
“California Penal League? How’d you end up there?
Stole a car.”
Major League is near the top of my comedy list. And I may love Steve MArtin, but he has a number of better movies than The Jerk.
I don’t know, the Jerk will always be near the very top of the pile for me and perhaps the movie I think of when I wonder how he still has a career after Cheaper by the Dozen.
The Jerk and Major League was the toughest vote so far for me. I absolutely love Major League, but The Jerk has so many wonderful lines in it that I can’t vote against it.
