“It’s basically a story of when the AIDS outbreak happened in New York,” he explained of the film’s premise. “It wasn’t really taken seriously, I think specifically because it was ‘the gay cancer,’ they called it. I think it’s a really interesting time in America. I think to see someone who really does change the world by his commitment and he’s even totally by himself at times, there’s still a real power in that. I love that it’s a people-powered movement that actually changed the way our government looked at this epidemic. I think there’s a real powerful message to that and something that we forget. We can get really cynical about what we can do, it gets stacked against us and they’re all corrupt — and at the end of the day, everything starts with people. The reason they’re there is because of us. “

  1. Ripley says:

Andrew Garfield could be decent as Spider-Man, and at least I could say I knew who he was before anyone else in my (general) class. My brief obsession with Red Riding can prove it.

What’s LOL about, anyway? It sounds obnoxious.

    • rtm says:

Yes, his casting actually intrigued me a bit as I’ve been kind of meh about the Spidey franchise. Have yet to see Red Riding, but the trailer looks great.

    • Heather says:

Well, I’m not familiar with any of his work, but people are saying he’s rather good. The whole take of the high school Era though process is questionable to me, but then I didn’t even love the last Spiderman series.

      • rtm says:

I only went by the buzz surrounding Red Riding regarding Garfield’s talent. I think I’m still not as psyched about this project yet, compared to say, Thor.

  2. Univarn says:

I can’t believe Harry Potter trailer would be highlighted. I mean really, who watches those anyways? Psssssh. Weirdos :P (*secretly jumps up and down for joy with anticipation*).

So, when do we get to find out the winners of this past month’s awards once retweets have come into play? :D

    • Castor says:

I will post about it on Sunday Univarn ;)

    • Red says:

Haha…I thought the HP trailer was pretty cool, even if they probably did show a little much. I think by now they’re thinking that whoever is watching the trailer, has a pretty good idea of what happens at the end. The final battle looks epic, even though it looks like Neville’s big hero moment might’ve been given to Ron.

  3. Kaiderman says:

Garfield looks like a good Peter Parker but the reboot is a travesty!
The Let Me In trailer looks really similar to the original.
Not a great comment but, in all fairness, I have been drinking heavily! HAPPY 4th! :)

    • Red says:

Still not sure what to think about the Let Me In trailer…it looks like it will have several of the same scenes from the original, but more of a Hollywood type horror feel to it.

      • Marc says:

It looks pretty much shot for shot, so it begs the question, why remake it in the first place?? Oh that’s right, Americans have a reading problem:P

But I love the morse code at the end of the trailer! I wonder if they’ll do that little train sequence at the end of this film…my guess is no.

  4. Goodness, gracious MUST they give everything to Meryl Streep? I know, I know nationalities don’t matter, but seriously so many British women rearing for a good movie role (not Helen M. or Judi D. whom I love) and they give it to Streep. Sigh.

    • Red says:

Well, considering how Streep is probably the greatest there ever has been when coming to changing accents for roles, I can’t disagree with the casting.

    • Darren says:

And I think Judi Dench and Helen Mirren are in the same “give them an Oscar nod for everything that isn’t a Bond film, an Abba musical or film starring Nicolas Cage” boat as Streep, to be honest. I just prefer Streep, to be honest.

    • Heather says:

I love her, but I’m so tired of her face. Is that awful? It’s awful, but I’ve had enough of her for awhile. Honestly.

Moreover we’ll probably be shut up because she’ll be amazing in it.

  5. amy says:

I’m kinda giddy about Streep playing Thatcher.
And… I really think the music on the Let Me In trailer is not… very fitting. I don’t want it to be fitting xD

  6. Oooh, I got tagged (merci. I really should stop reading posts so fast.

  7. Red says:

5NAL Destination is a farce, and somebody should be fired over that idea.

I’m still shocked that the Ice Road Truckers TV show is still going. I mean, what is there possibly to tell in the next episode that you didn’t tell in the previous one?

  8. Garfield was good in what I saw him in (Boy A). But I thought the Spider-Man reboot will give us a younger Peter Parker, an actor who’s age is closer to Parker’s. Garfield is 26? He’s as old as Tobey Maguire was when he was Spider-Man. And his age shows. So now who’s going to be Mary Jane? Or are they going to get the order right this time and introduce Gwen Stacy first.

    • Castor says:

Next, they will ask a 40-yr old actress to play MJ in high school… I have no idea who Garfield is and let’s face it, probably close to 90% of people don’t either so I don’t really get why they didn’t go with a younger actor.

      • Fitz says:

Emma Stone keeps being mentioned, but with Garfield being older I think they’ll go older.

      • Marc says:

Well I’m just not interested in the series reboot at all, to say nothing about who really would be the best casting decision.

But it’s all happening so we just have to make peace with it:( I was kind of hoping for the kid from Jumper to land the Parker role personally, but Hollywood never listens to me…

    • Darren says:

Yep, Garfield looks old – I think it’s his height (which probably isn’t that impressive, but always struck me about him – maybe because he’s a bean pole). It seems odd to “go younger” and pick an actor who looks the same age (there are actors old who look younger). I don’t know, it’s hard to muster excitement, even with Marc Webb directing.

  9. Dan says:

I’m liking the new Harry Potter trailer! Thanks for the link Castor, much appreciated.

  10. 5NAL Destination, hahaha! Sadly, they’ve missed their chance with the last film to call it 4NAL Destination. Now that would be very clever, indeed.

‘LOL’ got me interested now, seeing Thomas Jane’s name attached, but I was quickly put off by the plot summary: “In a world connected by YouTube, iTunes, and Facebook, Lola and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents.”

    Ahahahaha… not.

‘Space Battleship Yamato’ looks sick! I haven’t seen the anime on which it was based, but goddamn! I think we have a kick-ass sci-fi epic on our hands.

  11. Fitz says:

Garfield’s casting has put me in the “meh” crowd. I don’t care about a “high-school Spiderman” that’s 27 years old.

Let Me In looks decent, but I still haven’t seen the original. Need to get on that.

  12. rtm says:

Farrell & Bana in an indie drama, yes! Now that’s a duo I’d LOVE to see, and the subject matter sounds interesting. I’m also curious to see Bana’s next project with the lovely Cate Blanchett and Saiorse Ronan.

    • Peter says:

Yeah, I was excited for this too. Farrell has been making some excellent decisions (as far as his projects are concerned) the past few years. Putting out some impressive work.

      • rtm says:

I know, good for him as he’s a talented lad. He was good in Minority Report the first time I saw him, but he’s come a long way since then even.

  13. Will says:

The movie news sounds like The Onion or something. So ridiculous. 5NAL? Really? Mafia Wars? What’s next a Farmville franchise? My head is going to explode.

  14. Ronan says:

So glad I checked your news. I love Meyrl Streep, so looking forward to that Thatcher Biopic now. Thanks for the heads up Castor.

  15. James Ewing says:

What’s up with all this Scream 4 turmoil. I hope it turns out to be good because I think Scream could work really well as a modern horror franchise.

  16. I’ve always loved the Scream franchise and I really hope that 4 turns out well. 3 was a decent ending but I wanted so much more. Problem is that they’ve killed off two of my favorite characters (Randy and Cotton) so I dunno.

A thatcher biopic would be good IMO…

  17. Marc says:

Is it just me, or does anyone else want to see a non-CG Andy Serkis. Sure Golem and King Kong were awesome, but it’s defining his roles. Kid of like Mark Hamill and Patrick Warburton. He was funny in 13 Going on 30 and was decent doing the small live action part in King Kong…
    Sorry for the rant:P

  18. Marc says:

Oh and I have a solution for the Scream 4 script problem…stop writing it:)

    • Heather says:

Thank you. First one was brilliant, and the second one more clever than it almost had a right to be, but lets just let it die nicely. Please.

    • Will says:

Exactly. I barely made it through the first one.

      • Marc says:

I think teenagers just don’t realize that stooopid slashers are just that. So Hollywood can put these films out (with teenage protagonists, imagine that) knowing full well they’ll have a taste void audience that will travel in packs to see said film. It’s like printing their own money:P

  19. Róisín says:

Jude Law in a Scorsese film? That’s the best choice he made since starring with Stephen Fry! I quite like the look of that Ice Truckers film, and hadn’t actually heard about it until now. Can’t wait to see Kevin Spacey in something new. Colin Farrell, though? I could do without seeing him in a film ever again. He’s rumoured to play Ozzy Osbourne, I read earlier this week. I guess he does have the slurred accent to suit the role :)

  20. Jaccstev says:

Garfield’s blossoming celebrity is likely to add further hype to the pop-culture frenzy that the Spider-Man franchise spins.
