- Ridley Scott, Kevin McDonald team up to create “the first user-generated feature-length documentary.” (THR)
- Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life given PG-13 rating by the MPAA (Rope of Silicon)
- Some aspects of Lego movie uncovered (Collider)
“I don’t know how we’re exactly going to execute it, but I would say the vast majority of the film takes place in an immersive all-Lego environment. So it’s going to star mini-figs and we’ve created these really cool characters and a really nice character story between these mini-figs. And it’s going to take place in a universe that’s made entirely out of Lego to the point where if there’s water or clouds or like a big explosion, that will be made out of animated Legos. And our goal was to make it look like a super charged stop-motion. Something like if Michael Bay kidnapped Henry Selick to make a movie for him.”

-Most of the production notes seemed to be a bit “meh”
-Red Riding Hood seems to be gaining quite a bit of steam.
- “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” cast sounds awesomely good.
- Here’s hoping that Tom Hardy gets another lead role.
- The Edward Norton thing is starting to get nasty. Marvel basically came out and said they wanted a more team-friendly actor, even though the discussions between Norton and Whedon were very positive.
“Team-friendly” probably meaning he is too expensive for Marvel’s taste
Eh, if you read the statement that Marvel released, money really doesn’t seem to be an issue…the fact that Norton likes to try and take control is their problem, even though he said he was looking foward to working with the rest of the actors.
It was just bitchy. He doesn’t embody their “collaborative spirit”. Which reminds me of the Michael Caine quote: “We work as a team. That means you do everything I say.”
Definitely going to attempt to record something on July 24th. Sounds like a neat idea.
April shooting date sounds reasonable and legitimate for Batman 3 if they want to make the July 2012 release date.
Personally like the previous trailers for Machete, but it was nice to see a glimpse of new footage.
What’s on July 24?
The Kevin MacDonald documentary.
From the article:
“Titled “Life in a Day,” the doc will incorporate footage shot on July 24 that is submitted by YouTube users from around the world. It will have its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.”
That’s exciting news about Deborah Ann Woll. She’s great fun in True Blood, so it’ll be interesting to see how she plays out on the big screen…
To be frank I couldn’t fake less interest in the upcoming Conan film. Some things were made to be horribly cheesy.
Ultra-serious is the new cheese. Et cetera.
It’s like a continuum, rather than a line, you cycle from one end to the other.
The new Conan picture looks really good. Actually looking forward to that. And does Kevin Bacon as the villain strike anyone as odd? I mean he’s a good actor but main antagonist? Than again James MacAvoy as Prof. Xavier should be enough proof of this weird casting. Should be better than Wolverine though.
The new Saw 7 title is stupid and overly long. I am one of the few but I dearly love and adore the series in yet this title change is “Really?!” inducing for me. But Carey Elwes is in it so all is well.
I can’t believe they pushed the Adjustment Bureau…I really wanted to see that.
And I love the Machete trailer…aw hell I love Machete
Yes, I’m very disappointed about The Adjustment Bureau. I wonder what the reasons are behind that move…
I liked Edward Norton’s Hulk. Damn.
No interest whatsoever on Conan, though when I was in Jr High, I LOVED Conan the Destroyer, I must’ve watched that thing a dozen times!
Bummer about Adjustment Bureau!! I’m anticipating that as well, Castor. But I’m getting even more excited about X-Men: First Class with the way casting is going, WOW, Nicholas Hoult’s grown up to be such a fine young man!
Thanks for the shout-out Castor!
I like the idea of Virginia Madsen in a new horror movie. She’s excellent in those sorts of roles.
I’m glad she’s been making the rounds again these past few years. I’ve always liked her. She was the ONLY good thing about The Number 23.
You welcome Dan!
I thought the Avatar part was a joke. I guess I was wrong. I suppose we’ll all get to see the Na’vi get their sexy time on. Sex scenes here we come. This seems rather annoying to me. I always enjoy Cameron’s directors cuts on films. They always feel somewhat special, but in this case, I would have preferred some more time to elapse, but like Titanic, instead of letting his success settle, he’s going to continue to shove it down our throats. As many know I love him desperately, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t piss me off from time to time.
Sad about the Adjustment Bureau, but what is the reasoning behind it? I haven’t checked that article out yet.
And finally a collaboration between DiCaprio and Ridley Scott always has me excited. There’s a reason these big directors love to work with him and why he’s one of my favorites out there today.
Isn’t this the 3rd time they re-released Avatar? As for the Adjustment Bureau, it is worrisome that the movie was originally scheduled to be shown in September (aka garbage time) and now is pushed to March which is another dead month.
It’s ridiculous that they’re re-releasing Avatar again. Sheesh, enough already, don’t you make enough money?! I’d rather see Adjustment Bureau… heck, people are gonna forget all about it by March, I for one am looking forward to is the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy PAUL around that time.
But wait… this rerelease has a whole 8 minutes of additional footage! This would be sad if it wasn’t going to be so hugely successful.
Jeesh, Cameron. Rerelease Aliens or Terminator (or terminator 2).
Nice to finally get a peek at the new Woody trailer. And to drop Mel Gibson because of this recent mess??? What a dumbass move. Way to back up your clients, WMA!!!
I know Machete is supposed to look bad, kind of the way the Grindhouse flicks were made, but something makes me think this will actually “be” bad. Maybe it Segal…or maybe it’s just me:P
In fairness, I thought the other two Grindhouse flicks actually “were” bad. But I’m probably just being harsh (there comes a point where stylistic suck and suck just become one and the same).
I have to say I was impressed with Middle Men even before the Redband trailer hit the web…however the red band has its high points as well;)

I don’t know what to think about this ‘Conan’. Robert E. Howard’s literary character is the hands down truly the ‘damndest bastard there ever was’; with a sword in his hand and a wench by his side he battled men and monsters alike, and treaded the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet.
Howard, in one of his yarns, describes him thus:
[So formidable was his appearance, naked but for short leather breeks and sleeveless shirt, open to reveal his great, hairy chest, with his huge limbs and his blue eyes blazing under his tangled black mane, ...]
Now, you look at that picture of Momoa above and tell me if you see Conan? (Disregard the clothing – Conan always wore what was typical of the lands he was currently in)
As for the MACHETE trailer, I can’t wait for the real flick. It’s “Machete” and “The Expendables” that are gonna mark this year for me. But this trailer, due to the fact it’s real and has to “be approved for all audiences”, is actually the worst of the three. My favorite is still the original that came before “Planet Terror”, and the Cinco de Mayo one was good, too. But this… this is just bleak.
I don’t know. I kinda liked the second one, which was the first one with added Robert DeNiro (when they discovered they were making an actual movie).
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy had passed me by, this is the first I have heard of it. Great cast but I really struggle to see anybody but Alec Guinness as George Smiley from the brilliant BBC adaptation.
