164.Red Beard | "Since my 7th Round pick was chosen at the end of the last round, I’m going to go to my back up pick Colin Firth. I’ve always thought of him as the ‘romance guy’ but after The Single Man I’ve been seeing him in a new light and think he’d be the perfect fit in my film."
165.Travis | "I’m surprised it took this long for him to get drafted but I guess I’m not going to squander this opportunity to take him while I can. My seventh round pick is none other than the legendary Morgan Freeman. Why? Because he’s Morgan F’n Freeman. His voice is powerful and soulful, he can steal any movie he’s in, he can do any genre and he can even make a film about penguins interesting. He’s also worked with Nolan before on the Batman films and they have a good working relationship. So my seventh round pick is Freeman…the voice of god."
166. Dan | "7th rnd – Richard Dreyfuss – Every time Richard Dreyfuss and Steven Spielberg work together they can’t go wrong – JAWS & CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Dreyfuss needs one last big hit before he retires. Here’s his chance alongside Hoffman."
167. Anna | "My final choice is Emile Hirsch. His performances in Milk and Into the Wild blew me away (he sholud’ve been nominated for the latter). He is, for sure, a rising actor you shouldn’t ignore."
168.Novroz | "I couldn’t think of any man better than my 7th pick to be Cillian Murphy’s father. This time I will go back to Ireland and pick Liam Neeson. He has the charisma of a wise man, he is a great actor and I love this old man."
169. Joel | "I choose Sarah Michelle Gellar. She has proven herself in so many ways on Buffy and its a shame her feature career never took of. She’ll be perfect as an martial arts expert in this action ensemble!"
170. Chris | "The last pick… the twist in the tail… BAM! IT’S TOM SELLECK!
If you guys knew me a little better (and probably this time next time you will do) it would’ve been obvious from the start that he’d figure somewhere in my line up. I love this guy, he’s my hero. I think it’s time he tried something a little more menacing and he’s going to be the brains behind my antagonists’ operations. Woohoo!"
171. Red | "Steven Soderbergh has experience working with several stars, as well as delivering action packed movies without giving up artistic integrity."
172. Castor | I pick the enigmatic Terrence Malick, the perfect example of someone focusing on quality over quantity with only 4 masterful movies made in 4 decades: Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World. Thankfully, The Tree of Life is coming out later this year and his next film is on tap to begin shooting in October. Malick is absolutely what I need for the type of film I'm going for. He is extremely deliberate and favors a contemplative style that puts an heavy emphasis on natural backgrounds, metaphoric allusions and dialogue-less scenes. Each frame of his movie is a painting that he crafts meticulously for months in the editing room. His movies have a lyrical quality that absolutely no one else can come close to.
173. Corey | "Casey Affleck. The most talented actor with the last name Affleck, he should fit in nicely with the cast I've put together so far."
174. Kai | "Since I have a young cast, I’ll take Chris Pine, and stick with that theme. I pick him cuz he’s turned out to be more than just a pretty face and I dig him and want to use him and I do this part of the draft better than everyone! haha" | ![Chris-Pine-1[1]](http://www.anomalousmaterial.com/movies/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Chris-Pine-11-200x200.jpg) |
175. Peter | "My last pick will be the Iranian-born actress Shohreh Aghdashloo. She is lovely. Wonderful performances in “House of Sand and Fog” and “The Stoning of Soraya M.” I missed her on “24″ which I have never seen. But she has old-time Hollywood beauty and is a very good contrast to Ms. Jessica Lange."
176. Ruth | "Ok, my 7th round pick is Dame Helen Mirren. Is an explanation necessary? I think not. The beautiful 65-year-old is one of the best actresses working today (of any age!) I feel like I’ve been seeing her a lot lately: The Queen, State of Play, The Last Station, RED… and I’m constantly amazed by her performance. She’d be a wonderful addition to my cast and a suitable mother figure to 41-year-old Cate Blanchett."
177.Jonathan | CAST COMPLETED
178. Ripley | "Okay, I pick Robert Sheehan, because he’s kind of adorable on Misfits, and is in Red Riding with (already picked) Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Hall, and I guiltily dig Young Blades reruns.”
179. Heather | "Since someone already grabbed SMG I’m taking my next choice which is Nathan Fillion. He is one of the most underutilized actors out there today, and without a doubt the brilliant Joss Whedon has seen and used the ultimate charisma, charm, and talents of this man. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is enamored by his work and sees a long future before him. He is the final piece of my well……..disjointed, but interesting cast."
180. Richard | "Okay, I’m going for Paul Giamatti next. Love this guy. He’s a fantastic actor. Giamatti does the perfect hangdog good guy, and the perfect snarling bad guy. Best of both worlds in one little package."
181. Marc | "For the 7th Round, I chose Michelle Yeoh. As of late she's been known for token female martial artist roles but that's high time it changed. Her poise is what makes he compelling and I think she's capable of more than just high kicks. She can really dish out the hits but there's still a soft side under all that flashy and fierce fighting."
182. Clara | Round 7: Richard Jenkins: A truly wonderful character actor rounds out my supporting cast.
183. This Guy | "“Staying true to the “Tarantino Touch”, I’m selecting Mr. Kevin Bacon to be revitalized and made cool beyond novelty once again. His fearlessness to go to the dark side is amazing but well-balanced with a great sense of humor. Not to mention he works well within an ensemble AND can be connected to every actor in this Fantasy Draft within six degrees!”"
184. Fitz | "My final pick is Christina Hendricks."
185. Andrew Robinson | "With my 7th Rnd. Draft pick I will go with geek friendly FELICIA DAY. She was great in Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog and is lovely in her webseries: The Guild. Also having experience having worked with Joss Whedon and having a quaint likable quality to her she’ll fit perfectly in my cast."
186. CS | "Spike Jonze – A visionary who has not even reached his prime yet. I would love to see how he handles this talented cast of actors/actresses."
187. Michael | "Matthew Perry! Since I’ve seen him in Friends I knew I wanted to work with him. He has a way to deliver jokes like no else. I think he can be a very actor if taken seriously!"
188. Neon | "Now is time to pick my director. My director has to be a visionary, someone who no matter how dark it gets they are always moving forward in search of the light at the end of the tunnel. And no matter what the end result is they will swear by their life as well as by the life of their children that they have made a GREAT MOVIE! So without further ado my Director is none other than…Claudio Fragasso. That's right! the same visionary that brought us such films as Troll 2 and…??????"
189. Joel (From Ben) | "I'll go with Patrick Stewart for my second 7th round pick.
Patrick is another great ensemble actor and here he will be playing the small part of a scientist working on a miracle medicine."
190. ACPG | "With my seventh round pick, I’ll take Annette Bening…she’s a great actress who can play a character nobody really likes well (see American Beauty)…"
191. Andrew | "Rosamund Pike: It sucks that Halle Berry's star turn (of sorts) in Die Another Day is more remembered than Pike's brilliance...it also sucks that no one seems to remember that she was good in Pride & Prejudice and more than just good in An Education. I'm casting her to make up for it..."

You know you just won a LAMMY, right? hahahaha
Ahaha thanks Kai but let’s face it, I will take the fun we’ve had the past week as well as what’s in store when we get to read everyone’s pitch over all the Lammy’s in the world
whoops…guess i’ve hit the actor limit…that ruins my plan to save one of Hollywood’s (and my) favorites from the undrafted pool
somebody seriously needs to find a way to fit Will Smith into their movie…
while we’re at it…have Morgan Freeman be your narrator…
@Castor
Can I make a post on my blog and then let you post it here as a guest post? with a link back to my site of course?
This has been a blast btw… I think I’m going to use the supplemental rounds to buy some cameo roles just for fun.
Absolutely! I hope to be able to post at least excerpt of everyone’s pitch (with your permissions) with appropriate linking of course. I will start making a page for each individual team. More on this tomorrow!
cool.. anyways I sent in my pick for the round because I doubt anyone has the balls (or the memory) to pick her. She fits perfectly in this movie and even though there’s someone else in my mind that could work I like the one I sent in more.
Is it okay to post it before August 30? I already wrote my draft, I will perfect it once the additional pick is finished. It doesn’t have to be on August 30, right?
Do we have to choose screenwriter too?
No screenwriter, you can name one in your pitch if you would like though. Also, feel free to post before August 30 but I will not link to it until your assigned date which will be determined later.
Can I have 2 child actors for the price of 1? I don’t have a part for Will Smith, but I am considering Willow Smith for a bit part.
I will work on my pitch this weekend. I am excited to see what everyone does with these stellar casts.
not even jaden? damn…
Alright I’m ready to make my last pick…till the supplemental draft.
I’m surprised it took this long for him to get drafted but I guess I’m not going to squander this opportunity to take him while I can. So my seventh round pick is Freeman…the voice of god.
You know, I considered him a few times in the past couple rounds but I would have felt bad casting him in some stereotypical nothing role so I just skipped him over.
HEY!!!!!!!!!!! I resent that!!!!!!!! Penguins are ALWAYS interesting!
PS: Good choice, and I hope you give him something better to do than his role in the Batty films.
NICE! halfway there!
Man, I am dreading this last pick… It’s one that could potentially change the entire scope of my film (and send me into the supplemental draft.) Hopefully I have the time to sleep on it before choosing tomorrow.
Wee, just in the nick of time my pick came to me! I’m excited
Moments away from revealing my last pick (and considering a supplemental draft…)
I would take Jaden too, but I don’t have a part fro him and I need another supporting actress.
7th rnd – Richard Dreyfuss – Every time Richard Dreyfuss and Steven Spielberg work together they can’t go wrong – JAWS & CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Dreyfuss needs one last big hit before he retires. Here’s his chance alongside Hoffman.
My final choice is Emile Hirsch. His performances in Milk and Into the Wild blew me away (he sholud’ve been nominated for the latter). He is, for sure, a rising actor you shouldn’t ignore.
Since my 7th Round pick was chosen at the end of the last round, I’m going to go to my back up pick Colin Firth. I’ve always thought of him as the ‘romance guy’ but after The Single Man I’ve been seeing him in a new light and think he’d be the perfect fit in my film.
Good choice, man. LOVED him in A Single Man.
Thank you and he’s a little dreamy.
Darn, I didn’t realize I’ve maxed out on my actors pick, I still have 2 more I need, so I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow, right? So what’s the supplemental draft thing? Sorry I might’ve missed what that’s about. Thanks Castor.
Yep, you can wait until Friday to pick new actors. The supplemental draft is just an extra 3 round for anyone interested
Oh ok. Good, I’ll be fine tuning my movie idea this weekend. Fingers crossed the two actors I want is still available. Oh this is probably what REAL producers feel like, huh?
I guess I can reveal my pick when I’m on the clock.
I choose Sarah Michelle Gellar. She has proven herself in so many ways on Buffy and its a shame her feature career never took of. She’ll be perfect as an martial arts expert in this action ensemble!
Good pick Joel. Not sure what happened to her career, I guess that Scooby Doo movie was the kiss of death lol
Ahhh Joel, I love her too much. I was seriously considering her over Nathan Fillion. You just made my final option a bit easier. Nonetheless it’s all part of the game I suppose.
To bad you traded away Kate Winslet. I would have let her go for her… I love SMG to much too and she will be very good in this script…
Right before I go to bed…perfect timing
I couldn’t think of any man better than my 7th pick to be Cillian Murphy’s father. This time I will go back to Ireland and pick Liam Neeson. He has the charisma of a wise man, he is a great actor and I love this old man.
He was excellent in Schindler’s List.
Agree!!
I also enjoy his recent movies where he becomes more physical. He was perfect as Hannibal in The A Team.
This picture is great!
I think that was one of few box office successes she have had and after that she have got several chances again but the films haven’t really delievered finacially or critics wise.
The last pick… the twist in the tail… BAM!
Woohoo!
Grab Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson in the supplemental draft please!!!!
Awesome awesome pick Chris. Looking forward to see how menacing he is in your movie
Let him keep the mustache please!
Steven Soderbergh has experience working with several stars, as well as delivering action packed movies without giving up artistic integrity.
Excellent choice. I love that he’s one of those directors that can do any genre without it seeming forced, and still puts in his own trademarks.
One of the best directors around! Excellent pick! I considered him but my idea fitted better with Sofia…
With my 7th round pick, I finally select the enigmatic Terrence Malick. He is the perfect example of someone focusing on quality over quantity with only 4 masterful movies made in 4 decades: Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World. Thankfully, The Tree of Life is coming out later this year and his next film is on tap to begin shooting in October. Malick is absolutely what I need for the type of film I’m going for.
Make sure your movie is actually released, not having its release date getting moved every two seconds.
Aahah I don’t think this is happening with Malick though. He simply doesn’t say anything about release dates until his movies are 100% done to his satisfaction.
Casey Affleck. The most talented actor with the last name Affleck, he should fit in nicely with the cast I’ve put together so far.
Good actor although his boyish looks sort of restrict him a bit in terms of characters he can play.
Agreed. But there is a role in my movie that I think he is perfect for. I needed a young actor and most of the best available actors are pretty old.
Yes, but DiCaprio eventually over came that as well… These are the years he can hone his craft so that once his face looks as experienced as his talents, he’ll be unstoppable.
Ahhh…good point. I think we’ll start seeing him in more leading roles over the next few years.
Great choice! I considered taking him earlier on, but realized he wasn’t really what I needed. There’s never been such a difference in the acting quality of two brothers, huh?
Yeah, I think his brother is better suited for behind the camera.
indeed. i almost picked ben as a director
Mt last pick will be the Iranian-born actress Shohreh Aghdashloo. She is lovely. Wonderful performances in “House of Sand and Fog” and “The Stoning of Soraya M.” I missed her on “24″ which I have never seen. But she has old-time Hollywood beauty and is a very good contrast to Ms. Jessica Lange.
I’m heading to work, so once again I sending in my pick a little bit early with the hopes that nobody is a meanie and will snipe it.
Since someone already grabbed SMG I’m taking my next choice which is Nathan Fillion. He is one of the most underutilized actors out there today, and without a doubt the brilliant Joss Whedon has seen and used the ultimate charisma, charm, and talents of this man. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is enamored by his work and sees a long future before him. He is the final piece of my well……..disjointed, but interesting cast.
LOVE Nathan Fillion. I would love to see him in more movies, way to go Heather!
My mom is going to see your film.
This is the 2nd time Heather has knifed me in the heart and stolen my pick… DAMN YOU, WOMAN!!!
No way! You weren’t going to pick him!
Your mom has good taste!
I was!
Okay, I’m going for Paul Giamatti next. Love this guy. He’s a fantastic actor. Giamatti does the perfect hangdog good guy, and the perfect snarling bad guy. Best of both worlds in one little package.
Sorry, I’ve been kinda quiet the last few days. Busy, busy.
Oh shit, didn’t notice the other guys still on the clock. Thought my time had come.
It’s cool Richard
Loved his work in Sideways.
My favorite!
One of the greats for sure. He was phenomenal in Sideways and Cinderella Man both. I still need to see American Splendor. I hear he’s great in that too.
ABOUT TIME someone took this guy. I wanted to take him as my first pick, but he wasn’t fitting into the idea I was working with.
Still, he’s my favorite actor ever.
Castor, post the seventh choice I sent you whenever and seeing that I need someone else for my movie I’ll be sending you an eight one too. I have to say, Ruth and Anna have me most interested. Those casts are just looking brilliant. I sat down, looked at my cast and realised it’s all pointing towards a book…is that allowed?
Sounds good Andrew. Yes, a book adaptation is totally fine.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, because he’s my official Favorite Person Under 30 That’s Not European Of Some Sort.
Denied! Kai picked him in the first round! lol
He picked him as a director. I pick him as an actor.
Edit:
“Damn.
Okay, I pick Robert Sheehan, because he’s kind of adorable on Misfits, and is in Red Riding with (already picked) Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Hall, and I guiltily dig Young Blades reruns.”
He picked James Cameron as director. Unfortunately you can’t pick someone who has already been picked either way. Sorry Ripley
For the 7th Round, I chose Michelle Yeoh. As of late she’s been known for token female martial artist roles but that’s high time it changed. Her poise is what makes he compelling and I think she’s capable of more than just high kicks. She can really dish out the hits but there’s still a soft side under all that flashy and fierce fighting.
Nice pick
I like her even before she hits Hollywood
“…she’s capable of more than just high kicks” Kudos for recognizing that Marc! She definitely has that elegance and grace about her that’d be suitable for a dramatic story. I for one would love to see more of her softer side.
Round 7: Richard Jenkins: A truly wonderful character actor rounds out my supporting cast.
Just watched The Visitor… he is great!
Agreed. Loved him in The Visitor (a great movie btw), one of those actors who is always that familiar face in so many movies but never gets much recognition.
In seven rounds and I still can’t figure out why my images won’t post… hurmmm……..
“Staying true to the “Tarantino Touch”, I’m selecting Mr. Kevin Bacon to be revitalized and made cool beyond novelty once again. His fearlessness to go to the dark side is amazing but well-balanced with a great sense of humor. Not to mention he works well within an ensemble AND can be connected to every actor in this Fantasy Draft within six degrees!”
Kevin Bacon rules. That is simply kick ass!
Kevin Bacon is da man!
Right??? That’s what I’m saying. He’s been around forever, and dare I say that he STILL has untapped talent?
I feel like his best work is still yet to come. He hasn’t yet played the role that will define him forever.
So this time around I’ve pushed myself into a corner and apparently I’m being forced to select an actress… damn league rules. Anyways, I was planning on it anyways so I don’t know why I’m complaining. With my 7th Rnd. Draft pick I will go with geek friendly FELICIA DAY. She was great in Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog and is lovely in her webseries: The Guild. Also having experience having worked with Joss Whedon and having a quaint likeable quality to her she’ll fit perfectly in my cast.
Ohoh I think I made a fatal mistake!! Ruth is not on the table AAAAAARRRRRHG!
Fatal mistake??? I’m still alive Castor!
Ok, my 7th round pick is Dame Helen Mirren. Is an explanation necessary? I think not. The beautiful 65-year-old is one of the best actresses working today (of any age!) I feel like I’ve been seeing her a lot lately: The Queen, State of Play, The Last Station, RED… and I’m constantly amazed by her performance. She’d be a wonderful addition to my cast and a suitable mother figure to 41-year-old Cate Blanchett.
Fatal for me! May you forgive me someday
lol
Ahahaha… you’re too sweet Castor. Of course you’re forgiven, it’s amazing you haven’t forgotten more people given how busy you are. So when can we add additional cast? I just need one more.
Tomorrow (Saturday), my CTRL+C and CTRL+V buttons need some rest
Today, I will post more about the upcoming blogathon
You’re not talking about a NEW blogathon right??? It’s hard enough to keep up with this one!
Ahaha no, I mean the “Pitch your movie” part
So, if I was on the clock before Heather and wanted Fillion, shouldn’t I get him? I mean, sorry I have a job and kids to feed!!!
FINE!!!
Since I have a young cast, I’ll take Chris Pine, and stick with that theme.
Need help with a pic Castor. No time!
I pick him cuz he’s turned out to be more than just a pretty face and I dig him and want to use him and I do this part of the draft better than everyone! haha
Oh kai, I heart Chris Pine. He is yummity!
Almost as yummity as Nathan Fillion. haha
I was going to cast him and Renner as a pair of Hitmen. They look like brothers. AND I LOVE ALL THINGS FIREFLY!!!
Fillion is yummy and so is Renner. I’m thinking of sandwiches.
Joel selects Patrick Stewart with his last pick
Castor: I sent you a request for another actor before going to bed? Pierce was in an old setup before i choose SMG. If its possible I’d rather have that other actor if he isn’t already picked which I dont think he is…
Fixed, my bad
Joel, this is just damn smooth of you.
Thanxs feel free to jump on pierce in the supplemental draft.
Roger that
Rosamund Pike: It sucks that Halle Berry’s star turn (of sorts) in Die Another Day is more remembered than Pike’s brilliance…it also sucks that no one seems to remember that she was good in Pride & Prejudice and more than just good in An Education. I’m casting her to make up for it…
I’ll be back on line as per usual by Saturday…
Niiiiiiiiiiice pick Andrew. I never liked Halle in Die Another Day. She was beautiful sure, but forgettable. Her acting was stiff, and her chemistry with Brosnan was nonexistent which I don’t get, because how can ANYBODY NOT have chemistry with Pierce Brosnan? And so………..I agree with you in this long winded comment.
Yeah, Halle sort of disappointed in that movie and I’ve never been fond of Brosnan’s Bond to begin with. (Sorry Clara)
@Joel: You picked my favorite Bond (don’t hate) I love Pierce. I am glad he made the cut.
Sorry Clara he was benched in the last moment. I love Pierce as Bond and he is my favorite before Timothy Dalton and George Lanzenby.
Matthew Perry! Since I’ve seen him in Friends I knew I wanted to work with him. He has a way to deliver jokes like no else. I think he can be a very actor if taken seriously!
He was the most talented of the bunch for me, just edging out Lisa Kudrow.
God this past week has been busy packing, flying, moving on campus. Sorry about the delay (again). My final pick is Christina Hendricks.
With my seventh round pick, I’ll take Annette Bening…she’s a great actress who can play a character nobody really likes well (see American Beauty)…
Now is time to pick my director. My director has to be a visionary, someone who no matter how dark it gets they are always moving forward in search of the light at the end of the tunnel. And no matter what the end result is they will swear by their life as well as by the life of their children that they have made a GREAT MOVIE! So without further ado my Director is none other than…Claudio Fragasso thats right the same visionary that brought us such films as Troll 2 and…??????
