My plans got cancelled for the weekend so I decided to give myself a self imposed “blogging retreat.” I’m going to try to see how much blog work I can do in two days. I also have to watch The Giants vs The Phillies tomorrow (GO GIANTS). I thought about seeing Hereafter, but I think I will be disappointed. The first Paranormal was weak so I won’t be seeing that. I guess I be watching DVDs and catching up on TV shows. What’s everyone else up to?

  2. Anna says:

So on Saturday I’m doing the ACT at 8 IN THE BLEEPIN’ MORNING. Might see Hereafter and Nowhere Boy if I beg enough. Other movies I’m planning to watch are Closer, The Departed and Do the Right Thing. Also plan to finish reading The Bell Jar.

Oh, and Castor. You commented on my blog about me always giving positive reviews. Here’s one where I tear it to shreds: http://movienut14.blogspot.com/2010/06/public-enemies.html

  3. Novroz says:

I am going to watch RED this weekend :) … I finally go to the cinema again after Inception, it’s been such a long time. I’m a picky person when it comes to watching movie in cinema.

AM’s birthday is close to my Birthday (not an important information, just like to share it). That prize, Inception’s DVD, is interesting…it reminds me I need to go to the store and buy it.

  4. Corey says:

I don’t have much going on this weekend….just my daughter’s soccer game tomorrow morning and then a whole lot of watching football. I probably won’t go see a movie in the theatre but I might rent something….any suggestions?

    • Red says:

As far as newer rentals go, the movie that just came out that sits atop my Netflix list is The Killer Inside Me. I’m rather excited to watch it.

  5. Mad Hatter says:

I’m continuing to pack up Casa del Hatter in anticipation of a move to a new home next weekend, so for the second weekend in a row (and the second of three overall) – no trip to the theatre for me!

I am however making a bit of time tonight to watch ROSEMARY’S BABY for the first time, and likewise a bit of time this weekend to assemble Episode 23 of The Matineecast.

PS – Am has only been around for less than one year??? this level of awesomeness in so short a time should be criminal!!

  6. Rachel says:

Fantastic soundtrack choice! Used it during my wedding ceremony.

No big film plans for me this weekend. Buried finally came to our arthouse theater, but we didn’t plan ahead for a sitter, so I don’t think we’ll be catching it this week. Hoping to do a Bourne Trilogy Marathon and maybe watch Monsters and/or I’m Still Here.

  7. Univarn says:

1 year comes and goes so quickly here. Glad you made it that far! Sticking with it can always be a challenge. Can’t wait to see who you get for your News writer though. Make sure you get someone willing to commentate, not just narrate! If you don’t I’ll feel very saddened :P .

As for what I’ll be doing. I’m working my way through two things at the moment.
    1. For books – Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker series.
    2. For movies – The work of Ingmar Bergman (having only seen 2 of his films I felt that need be remedied)

    • Univarn says:

Oh and I hate to double dip, but perhaps for 1 year you should give away a prize to your all time top commenter? I know it’s definitely not me (I think Travis has about 50000000 comments here).

    • Joel Burman says:

An Ingo marathon… I suggest you see Summer with Monika, Wild Strawberries and the Seventh Seal those are his three best films together with Fanny and Alexander of course.

    • Red says:

I’ve been meaning to get into the Hitchhiker books for years, but don’t exactly go through books like I used to. I’m still about 1/10 into the one I started last September (“How to Read a Film”).

      • Univarn says:

To be honest I didn’t start being a regular reader until this year. It always felt boring and a chore to me. I suppose it’s my new obsession. I get a new one every year or two. Movies are my only real constant – hence the blog.

I’m only on book 2, but so far they’ve been a lot of time. I’d recommend it.

        • Red says:

          Haha…

“To be honest I didn’t start being a regular reader until this year. It always felt boring…..”

When I was reading this in the recent comments section on the sidebar, I thought you were one of the people commenting on AM turning a year old. I was like, “Oh, that’s rather harsh….”

But I’m the other way around. When I was younger, I would read books like nobody’s business (Potter fanatic), but I just don’t have the attention span to read books anymore. It makes me tired.

          • Univarn says:

Ironically I’m pretty much the exact opposite. My childhood and teenage years were spent running around in circles imagining I was doing something (as opposed to actually doing something). These days I’d rather sit down for a good book.

Oh, and never been bored with AM…. that you know of (sorry, I believe ambiguous endings are in season)

  8. CS says:

Just watched the documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage last night. I am not a Rush fan but I thought the doc was fantastic.

Besides doing some painting around the house, I am hoping to watch Dial M for Murder this weekend. Realized that I have never seen the original.

    Favourite tunes at the moment:
Rocco – Arcade Fire (whole album is great)
    Cinderella Man – Eminem
    Fools – The Dodos
    Forget You/ F*** You – Cee-Lo

Congrats on the one year, AM!

  9. Manikandan says:

Congrats castor. BTW I gonna see the film ’12 Angry Men’ this Sunday. For AM’s first birthday, I have an Idea – All the contributors of AM must recommend their all time favorite(only one)Movie to watch others…So based on Voting, the most voted film will be dedicated to AM. Its just a suggestion..I am very eager to have a feedback from you all. Cheers :)

  10. Anna says:

I’ve been thinking of changing the name of my blog. Honestly, Life of a Cinephile and Bibliophile is a bit of mouthful. I need to change it to something short, sweet and to the point. Suggestions?

    • Univarn says:

I’d say a catchy, memorable, name is always best. If you can’t come up with that a good acronym never hurts. My suggestion:

Movies Mania. Doesn’t make much since but at least you get to call it M&M! :)

      • Anna says:

I want to incorporate that the blog also reviews books too.

        • Novroz says:

I didn’t know you reviewed books too Anna, I should look at your blog again.

Finding name for blog with many things to write is a bit confusing, that’s why I ended up with a cheesy blog name ;)

No help from me because I’m also searching for a better name

          • Joel Burman says:

Blog name is difficult. I understand why you wanna change. I sometime think “Deny Everything” has a negative tone to it but I keep clinging on to it because I’m lacking an alternative.

  11. Colleeng says:

Wow! A one year anniversary is a big deal. Look what a great body of work you already have! Plus, this great community. I know you filled a blogging need for me. I couldn’t find sites that talked about a love of movies and not celebrity gossip and all that crap! I’ve not only found AM, but through you, all these other great blogs written by people obsessed with movies just like me. I think you should have a parade.

    • Joel Burman says:

very well spoken. You have filled a need for me aswell. You can surely understand that if you look at your ham statistics I found Anomalous in may/june or something and I havent commented as frequently on a blog before (http://www.skidpepp.se may be the exception, Oskar on there is your swedish counterpart when it comes to be a great inspirer and enthusiast in his subject).

I also love the fact that Anomalous introduces a bunch of other blogs while discovering great material and discussions to begin with.

    • Castor says:

Thanks Colleen but it’s people like you who keep us going!

  12. rtm says:

Wahoooo… happy almost b’day Castor! :) Oh I hope I win that book, I follow that Awesome guy on twitter, it’s a terrific blog. As for the idea for celebration, how about I buy you coffee + dessert on AM’s b’day? :)

Anyway, I kinda predicted Paranormal Activity 2 would win box office and I was right.

    • Castor says:

Yes, it’s a really great book and makes you appreciate the simple things in life. Anyone will have a chance to win the book, the more comments the higher the odds!

Coffee and dessert? That would be awesome!

  13. Ronan says:

Didn’t get to the movies this weekend but I did see The Devil’s Backbone on FilmFour as past of their Del Toro triple bill. It got caught somewhat disappointingly between The Orphangae and Pan’s Labrinyth I thought.

What about doing a blog meme for to celebrate the anniversary?

  14. Will says:

Wow, I’m surprised that this isn’t a 2nd or 3rd anniversary with all the regular readers and quality content you have built up here. Congrats!
