Stuff Hollywood Likes: #1 Pixie Cut

Hollywood loves pixie cuts these days. You don’t need any more proof than the flood of women celebrities sporting the en-vogue and spunky hairstyle: Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, Carey Mulligan, Michelle Williams, Keira Knightley, the list could go on and on… It’s like they all got together in some trendy Brentwood coffee shop (around a single $20 bite-size sandwich) and made a pact to rock out the haircut simultaneously.

"hihi I look like a boy, maybe I will get better roles now"

Although this always makes the starlet looks like a 7-yr old boy, entertainment industry pundits will universally rave about how cute and gutsy she is for sporting the haircut. Do not let them fool you! This is just a major conspiracy to turn Hollywood into an all-male industry. See, it isn’t enough that nearly all the movies are made by men for men (boys actually), or that female movie-goers are relegated to cinematic highlights such as The Ugly Truth or Twilight. No! The powers-that-be are dead set on turning your favorite actresses into dudes!

This is not to say that the recent affinity female celebrities have for short hairs doesn’t make sense. Actually, men discovered thousands of years ago that there is a lot of advantages to having short hairs. They are easier to fix, don’t get tangled around door knobs or tree branches, and are less susceptible to catch a flame. Atta girls for seeing the light!

Do you like pixie hairstyles? Should Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal get together and rock out long hairs and pony-tails? Let us know in the comments!

    You’re forgetting Mia Wasikowska xD

Please, I’m all over pixie hair… but not on everyone. To me it has to do with bone structure and heads – Keira Knightley’s face has too many angles… actually, that photo you chose is not really that pixie-like. It looks more like older woman with short hair.

But then again I’m the girls with the shaved head.

Williams and Mulligan have a certain soft forest aura to them, the pixie cut fits them perfectly.

    PS: I’m obsessed with hair.

Cate Blanchett’s pixie cut is more… dunno if it’s her, but it’s more for what in English they call “smart dress”? It’s like Tilda Swinton’s hair – it’s not really pixie like… it’s more gentleman-y. They both are very handsome. xD

Mwahahahaha… Hollywood is turning actresses into a dude… too funny! Well I’m a chick and I love short hair, not exactly pixie cut but about as short. I think I cut my hair short back in college and I never wanted to grow it out ever again. Aside from the reasons you mention, short hair is practical and y’know what, these girls look sexy sporting ‘em. As for the dudes sporting long hair… unless they have the bone structure and manliness (i.e. Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall), I’d say don’t even go there!

I think the girl who looks best in a pixie cut is Natalie Portman

    Natalie Portman Pixie Cut

That face is not meant to be hidden behind a bunch of hair. You know who wouldn’t be able to pull off this look? Jennifer Aniston. There’s a reason she NEVER changes her hairstyle for any movie role.

    *cough* Audrey Hepburn *cough*

And there I thought guys don’t notice girls hair ;)
I agree, its a bit too much with the pixie hair lately! Carey Mulligan can pull it off but I really hate it on Emma Watson. Why did everyone cut off their hair at the same time? So odd…

I categorize hair as one of four types: bald, short, medium, long. Beyond that I don’t really care. Now if these girls came in with hair that was a combination of all four I might have something to say about it. However, if any of the aforementioned women (preference to Natalie Portman) showed up tomorrow and said ‘let’s go out’ the last thing to my mind would be ‘yeah it’d be awesome, but…. pixie hair? really?’

I was going to say something….but the Natalie Portman picture distracted me… *drool*

I love Halle Berry in this Hair Cut…She is amazing. What about Castor and Other friends?

  10. Richard says:

What I like about short hair is that it isn’t ordinary. Plus short haired girls are better in bed… everyone knows that!

  11. Anna says:

Personally, I think a woman can pull off the pixie cut if she has the right facial structure. Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley are some of the fortunate ones.

  12. Ripley says:

I like pixie-cuts. You can’t get away with it when you got curly hair, but for those tiny-ass people, it works.

  13. Emily Browning too has that cut

  14. Colleeng says:

I had that haircut about 10 years and I loved it. So super easy. It’s short enough that you don’t even get bed head! I think these actresses do SO much damage to their hair that sometimes you have to start all over. I’d have to give the crown to Halle Berry for this haircut. While alot of the others pull it off, she’s the only one that actually looks better with it.

  15. Emily says:

You have to have a certain type of face to rock this look, I certainly couldn’t pull it off.

I actually did a project related to this very topic when I worked for a retailer years ago.

    In case anyone cares: http://beauty.about.com/od/hairbasics/a/flattering.htm

I am mixed about Emma Watson’s decision to go pixie – I think she did it to get away from Hermione.

I do agree Halle is the standard-bearer when it comes to the pixie.

  17. Prav says:

    Suits Carey Mulligan the most

  18. Nicholas says:

Sienna Miller was rockin’ the pixie cut WAY before it became trendy and then discarded it when all these posers jumped on the bandwagon.
