The Hollywood Fantasy Draft II: Sign Up To Play!

Fantasy Hollywood Draft

Back in August 2010, Anomalous Material presented you with the Hollywood Fantasy Draft, in which participants selected actors and directors for a movie pitch of their own creation. It was wildly successful with 27 of you taking part in the draft which ended up being extended to 10 rounds. Many of you told us about how fun and addictive the game was and it certainly was a joy to read all the creative movie pitches afterward. We received such positive feedback that we are launching the second edition on December 27!

How To Play

If you have participated in some kind sport fantasy draft then you know how to play. If not, then don’t worry because it is very simple. You will get the hang of it very quickly once we start playing. In essence, each participant gets to draft (= select) an actor/director when it is their turn. If you would like to get a simple example of a fantasy draft, visit the first edition of our Hollywood Fantasy Draft.

The Rules

If you participated in the first Hollywood Fantasy Draft, you will see several important changes that will spice things up

  • The target number of participants will be 32 on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • If there is more than 32, keep signing up and I will see what I can do
  • 10 Rounds
  • Pick actors and filmmakers from all eras, dead or alive
  • Selections are made in the comments
  • Time-limit between picks will be much smaller (possibly as little as 60 minutes in the first round)
  • If you miss your pick, you will be skipped but you can make your pick anytime once you return
  • Gender balance: You must select at least 3 actors and 3 actresses
  • Trading picks or selections is allowed
  • The first round will start on Monday, December 27th at 2PM CT (Edited)

Rules specific to people who participated in the first Hollywood Fantasy Draft:

  • You cannot pick anyone you selected in the first Hollywood Fantasy Draft until the 4th round
  • Any more rules you want to see?

After The Draft

This time around, you will have the choice to either pitch a movie of your own creation or re-cast an existing movie with the people you select. If you choose the latter, you should explain why each actor/director would be a better fit and how this improves the movie. More details later!

  1. *First!!* :) Sign me up! Can’t wait! Thanks for the opportunity!!

    • rtm says:

Hey Scarlet, looking forward to reading your picks and pitch as this is your first time. You’ll have a blast, but be careful, it can be quite addictive :D

  2. Anna says:

Hell yeah I’m doing this again. AND we can choose names in Hollywood that are no longer with us? Eff yeah, man. Sign me up.

Problem is I might get a *little* distracted when it comes to drafting. But forget about it.

  3. rtm says:

Oh boy, I’m going to be away around Christmas holiday so I don’t know if I can make that date Castor. But you know I’m definitely interested.

  4. Corey says:

I had a blast with this the last time around and was actually going to ask you when you planned on doing it again. So needless to say, count me in!

  5. Clarabela says:

Count me in. It was so much fun.

  6. Nicholas says:

Hey I’ll sign up but can we move it to the 27th i’ll be busy christmas and boxing day?

  7. Nicholas says:

Castor, since I didn’t “technically” participate in the 1st draft does that mean that I could still use people from my last fantasy draft?

  8. Manikandan says:

Sounds Great. Castor add me in the list. I hope we all rock it. Cheers :)

  9. Red says:

Not quite sure if I will be able to take part in this or not. We should still be in Texas for the entire duration of this, but we might actually more restricted when it comes to internet access in Texas than we are in Iraq.

    • Castor says:

Let us know once you settle in bro, there will always be a spot open for you.

      • Red says:

We finally got settled in. We don’t have wireless, but we have an internet cafe just a short walk away. If anyting, I can definitely make up a list of actors that I want and send it in.

The king of fantasy drafts just can’t miss these. :)

  10. Joel Burman says:

Sign me up, eventhough I am not super fond of that old draft rule, we should be able to protect one name on that rooster. =)

  11. Robert says:

I’m definitely in! I was so upset that I didn’t do the last one because it seemed like so much fun.

  12. Sebastian says:

Sign me up! Can’t believe I missed out on last time! SIGN ME UP!!!

  13. Novroz says:

    I’m in AGAIN :)

I know how to write a better movie pitch now,I didn’t know anything about movie pitch before :)

  14. JL says:

This sounds pretty cool. Unfortunately, I’m on an “abnormal” schedule so I doubt I’d be around come time to pick, thus I guess I won’t be participating. Should be interesting as a spectator though to see what things people come up with.

  15. Marc says:

Oh yeah, round two, I am so down for this!! Sign me up for sure:)

  16. Joel Burman says:

Couldn’t we kick off the new draft by having an award week of the ol draft the week before to get in the right mood?

  17. Ripley says:

    Indeed, I sign up.

  18. Sign me up.

(But are we allowed to choose people that OTHER drafters chose in our first round?)

  19. Anna says:

Oh boy, I already got a director and one actor in mind. Possibility of them getting picked early on? Not very.

    • Novroz says:

Me too Anna, I have even created the storyline in my mind.

I hope all the actors and the director I have in mind will not be chosen by anyone.

I have also prepared the deal to get my must-have-actor with other participants :)

  20. Richard says:

Okay, damn you, I’m in. I can’t resist a second round. :-D I’ll be away for Christmas too, but I’ll email my picks if need be.

By the way, I’m now blogging at a brand new site. Come visit sometime. Sorry for the rampant self-promotion.

Here’s hoping I get my first choice director this time around. ;-)

  21. Novroz says:

I almost forgot to ask this. A friend of mine wanted to join the first fantasy draft but she doen’t have a blog.

I am going to tell her that the second fantasy draft will start soon, can she join even if she doesn’t have a movie blog? because I see that everyone here owns a blog.

    Thx Castor

  22. Univarn says:

I’m working on something else at the moment so I don’t have the time to partake in this.

SO I’d just like to say to all of you, that if none of you pick Kurosawa as director I will have to hunt each and every one of you down. LET IT BE KNOWN!!!! If you do pick Kurosawa you’ll have my unwavering support and advice if you’re less familiar :P

  23. Andy says:

Sorry I missed the first round, sign me up for this one if I’m not too late

  24. CS says:

    Count me in as well.

Also, will you all be kind enough to leave my boy Depp on the board until the fifth round? Really the world is tired of him and he will only bring down your film. Trust me. ;)

  25. Rob C says:

I would love to take part in what looks to be an awesome event!

  26. Nick says:

I’m so in this! I was so upset I missed this the first time around. Count me in.

  27. Joel Burman says:

A suggestion for the pitch event to this draft.

When I pitch film projects IRL I very often have to do it orally through a short pitch, maximum 5 minutes. Since a lot of guys in here do podcasts wouldn’t it be interesting to have a voluntary pitch cast aswell? So people who wants to do that records a a 3-5 minute short pitch and include the link to the pitch page.

IRL if I do a good work on the pitch I get to send material to the ones listening in so it would be kind of similar to the real process.

  28. Marya says:

I have never done a fantasy sports, etc thing before, but this sounds fun. and complicated. I’d love to be involved, if only as a learning experience!

  29. Anna says:

Can it be the 27th now? I’m getting anxious!

  30. If there’s room, I’ll play.

  31. Rich says:

Sure, I’ll play. Sounds like fun.

  32. Clarabela says:

Can we do re-makes or book adaptations? I am thinking of trying something different. Not a love story or chick flick this time around.

  33. Anna says:

Mine is going to have all classic actors, no actors that are working today.

  34. Lacie says:

Sign me up, please. I’d like to give this thing a try :)

  35. Colleeng says:

I’m concerned that I would be at work during the pickings. Are they usually weekdays?

    • Castor says:

We simply go non-stop until the draft is over ;) Participants can send me their picks beforehand if they feel like they might not be around a computer when it’s their turn.

  36. ACPG says:

i’d be down to do this again

  37. Amy W. says:

    I want to try!!

  38. Michael C. says:

Is it too late to sign up for this?

  39. Since i wasn’t able to get my movie finished for the last draft, could i finish it for this one?

Also, for this one how much of the story should be put in the pitch? Cause i do want to eventually make the film i was thinking of pitching into a actual movie and i don’t want the full story out on the internet before then(This is why i didn’t sign up earlier)

If this matters, no one who i wanted for my main cast has been drafted(Amy Acker, Thomas Decker, Nelsan Ellis, and Alexander Skarsguard). There are some other actors/actress’s i’ve though about using, and i will be sure to avoid using anyone who has been drafted

I know i should have asked you this stuff earlier, and if its too late to join i understand. I just figured i should at least try.

    • Castor says:

Hey Julian, you are more than welcome to pitch your movie. Sign up on the post that I will publish on Sunday. As for how long your movie pitch should be, I actually made a point of telling people to write shorter movie pitches this time. Not only are you right that you shouldn’t put all ideas out in public but a movie pitch is only a trailer for the story and actually a complete outline of the script!

  40. Joel Burman says:

I don’t think its up yet! You should check out the previous pitching event there are some great examples in there (mine not included) but I’d try to keep it shorter than the general pitch in there because they were to long in general.
