I like what they did with the trailer here. It could potentially be spoiler filled but it looks like they did a great job with misdirection and deviation to build up the opening portion/setup of the film and combine it with some later action.

As for the film it looks like it’ll be a good time all around. The only concern I have is the March release. March is one of the eh months. Not quite summer, and far from Oscar season. Occasionally you get a How to Train Your Dragon but not regularly.

Sounds Interesting…Waiting to watch it. Cheers :)

  3. Dan says:

Looks like it could be exciting in an Independence Day way. Doubt it’ll have the ingenuity of District 9 but X-Files with lots of guns is the sort of thing that passes the time rather handsomely.

  4. Red says:

Have to hate the timing of this release. Too many people will see this, and get it confused with Skyline, which comes out today. “Hey man, did you see that new Alien invasion movie? Oh, what a coinkydink, it’s playing today!”

    • Joel Burman says:

Totally agree. I thought exactly the same thing. The trailers have the same kind of low key tone (not reveiling very much) aswell which help out confusing things.

    • Steve says:

I gotta be asking what’s in the kool-aid with all these alien invasion picks happening at once. Is this still fallout from District 9? Or are these harbingers of Super-8?

      • Joel Burman says:

Its the same thing that happens now and then when studios glances at each others roosters like Armageddon and Deep Impact or Mission to Mars and Red Planet. Another recent example is of course the two rom coms having litterary the same plot but different cast (Justin Timberlake is in one and Ashton Kutchner in the other), Castor have mentioned in one of his round ups.

        • Steve says:

Yeah, there’s no doubt there’s some clamouring going on to get the biggest payout for the use of any particular idea – but this seems to be part of a larger movement. A lot of films coming out though, more than just a bunch of studio clones. Monsters seemed to be the American version of District 9, and Skyline… meh, just something to get made. It’s just been a while since there’s been any word about Super-8, and with Spielberg backing that one, it oughta be a really big deal.

  5. This looks like it’s gonna be epic. People seem to have positive reactions to it. I wonder if the case would be the same if, let’s say, Michael Bay was the director, hm?

Anyway, the only thing that bothered me is the goddamn music in the trailer, man… it made my ears bleed.

    • Castor says:

I just want this to be as realistic as possible and not the bombastic, over-the-top stuff we get from Michael Bay.

      • Univarn says:

Are you trying to say Michael Bay, aka God of Cinema as we Know it (duh), is over the top and not realistic!?!?! That’s sacrilege! I demand you take back your statement, and repent!

j/k. I wouldn’t mind a bit of a District 9 vibe intertwined with some military style action. Granted I’m not sure how they’ll be able to handle aliens without Will Smith….

  6. Steve says:

Loving this in a way that perhaps Monsters was supposed to capture my imagination (and didn’t) and definitely loving it for the way it seems to be doing everything that Skyline isn’t.

  7. rtm says:

Wow, lots of great stuff coming out next March! I’m guessing this might be better than Skyline? I like Eckhart, too, he’s inherently likable. Who’s directing this one, Castor?

    • Castor says:

Jonathan Liebesman, not the greatest pedigree out there with The Texas Chain Massacre as of his most well known effort.

      • Steve says:

This’ll be as close as we’ll ever get to an actual “Burn, Hollywood! Burn!” movie – so I’ll take what I can get. It could be that the trailer is cooler than the movie, but there does seem to be a good diversity of footage here to draw on for a well-rounded movie.

      • rtm says:

Oh right, I think he was one of the directors Nolan considered for Superman.

Steve – I was thinking the same thing that the trailer looks so enticing, I hope the movie can live up to it. We’ll see I guess.

  8. this one looks exciting! Can’t wait to post it up on this week’s edition of Trailer Time Thursday! Wow! Thanks for sharing it Castor! did you see Skyline yet?

  9. Jaccstev says:

There’s a lot of impressive footage in this trailer for Battle:LA but it’s the various perspectives and the effects that really capture my attention.

  10. CMrok93 says:

Looks so good! It may rely more on scares for with its apocalyptic atmosphere which may actually seem to work. I cannot wait for this to come out!

  11. idawson says:

Aaron Eckhart in full on action may well be worth the price of admission …
Invariably (as others have mentioned) comparisons will be made to Skyline. Not sure I will be seeing that one though. Did I mention Aaron Eckhart is in Battle: LA? ;)
