Trailer For Ryan Reynolds’ The Green Lantern

The first trailer for The Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds, has finally hit the wire. I can’t say that the movie trailer looks all that promising, the computer effects are on the cheap side but I’m sure there will be a lot more trailers to come in the next 6 months. The Green Lantern will be appear in movie theaters on June 17, 2011. A synopsis was also released:

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Looks kinda cute but not all that exciting…

Unimpressed. The CGI will look better on release, so I have no real problem with that, but Blake Lively’s delivery can’t be improved and I don’t like the tone of the picture from that footage. It suggests that the film’s neither serious enough nor fun enough, trying to exist somewhere in between both without possessing the best qualities of either sort of movie.

I want this to be good because if it is, it means great things for Ryan Reynolds’ career. But this doesn’t blow me away or even hook me in the slightest.

Ahaha I was thinking exactly the same thing about Blake Lively in the trailer. It was so flat it was painful. Way to go from a good performance in The Town to that one line that ruins everything.

      • Fitz says:

I think people are giving Lively way too much credit for one scene in a great film. She’s not a very good actress in anything else I’ve seen and the majority overrules the minority of her performances.

Twitter has been abuzz with how amazing this looks, to me it looks like a bland rehash of what’s becoming a far too formulaic genre. I liked Ryan Reynolds at first but his act is getting a bit dated on me. That doesn’t mean it will be bad of course, just based on this trailer I’m not buying it. Looks more like a laugh at, not with endeavor.

I don’t know what to think of this now. It looks kind of lame with its cheesy CGI effects, but I’ll just give it some time since it doesn’t come out for awhile.

  5. Ripley says:

You know she’s smart because she died her hair brown and she’s wearing a jumpsuit, so she’s also one of the boys.

I think it is too soon to judge the movie. They still have 6 months of filming, editing and special effects to add. Ryan Reynolds’ star is about to go super nova. Remember you heard it hear.

He is cute and funny, with a great body & married to a sexy blond actress. I think he can carry this movie. Besides, if Blake is no good, they will just edit out her part and do a few extra scenes with his comic sidekick.
