The Hollywood Fantasy Draft II: Supplemental Rounds

We are concluding the Hollywood Fantasy Draft with the supplemental draft. The 8th, 9th and 10th round are optional and used to supplement your cast if you need more cast members for your movie pitch.

After the Draft

After the draft concludes, the 29 participants will be invited to pitch a movie. It can either be an original story of their own creation or a remake of an existing film. More on this when the time comes but there is a few things I want to highlight right now:

• Length of movie pitches: Last time, we had too many movies pitches that would never have been pitched in real life because they were way too long. Remember that a pitch is just a trailer for a movie you are trying to get made, not the actual outline of the script!
• Movie pitch tournament: Nick suggested that after all the movie pitches are completed, we have a tournament to determine the “best” movie pitch. I think that’s a great idea!
• You will have at a minimum 10 days to work on your pitch.

Supplemental Draft Rules

IMPORTANT: The rules remain the same for the most part although there is major changes as to how selections will be made.

• Make sure you have at least one director, 3 actors and 3 actresses.
• No time limit
• First-picked, first-served basis
• The 8th round opens at 9AM CT
• The 9th round opens at 1PM CT
• The 10th round opens at 5PM CT
• The supplemental draft remain open until Sunday, January 2 at 5PM CT, meaning that you can make your 8th round pick on Sunday at 4:59PM if you wish to do so
• Selections have to be made in the comments by the author. No submission by email or Twitter will be accepted at this time.

Round 8 Draft Board

2. Movie Guy Steve	"We had a great part lined up for Sophia Loren as the mother of the Javier Bardem character. She was very sweet and classy (and if a septuagenarian can be said to give a sexy refusal, she did), but ultimately she turned us down. The script has gone back into re-writes regarding that character, and we’ve changed the role to be the sister of the Javier Bardem character instead. Thankfully, Ana Torrent was still on the board, and we’ve secured her services."

4. John Parker	"For my 8th round pick, i’ll take Stephen Colbert I need a guy who can play a bigot radio announcer. Something tells me Colbert is capable."
5. Rob Carraher	"Its time to cast some child roles. As a child version of Anne Hathaways character, I select Bailee Madison. She was brilliant as Natalie Portman and Tobey Mcguires daughter in Brothers. I need a great child actress for this role. She’s the right pick here."
6. Andrew R	"For my 8th pick I’ll round out the cast with Eva Marie Saint"

10. Marya	"all these choices are so great! as far as I can tell no one has chosen Viggo Mortensen yet. I'd like "A Walk On The Moon"-era Viggo, re-teamed with Naomi as her on-again, off-again boyfriend who may or may not be the father of Elle."

14. Joel	"I add a co-director: Alan J. Pakula With a bunch of political thrillers on his resume he will be the perfect director partner of Michael Mann."

21. Castor	"Terrence Malick will direct my remake of Troll 2. Although you can certainly expect him to capture the beauty of grass waving in the wind while Carey Mulligan gets eaten by a marauding horde of trolls, be assured that he will also edit the movie to perfection even if it takes 10 years."

23. Andrew Kendall	"Now is as good a time as any to pick my director, Mile Nichols. Supremely underrated, but not at all lacking in talent. He's a trooper when it come to balancing the horror of life against the inadvertent bits of humour."
24. Red	"Continuing with the batch of wacky picks, I’ll go with Brad Dourif."
25. Travis	"For my pick I choose someone no war movie should be without. R lee emery"
26. Nick	"This role was difficult, as I need someone who could give us both an air of authority, yet also a sense of uncertainty. She has to show power, but she also has to be able to let her emotions control her. She can't be too young or too old. And she has to be sexy. Thandie Newton fits this pretty well."
27. Clara	"I can’t believe my pick for this supporting role is still available. Even though he is difficult to work with, I chose James Dean for this role. It is a small part, but it sets the stage for the entire story."
28. Nicholas R.	"Now I have a protagonist, his ex-wife, his son, his best friend, a supporting character and my antagonist. It is time to pick my secondary/supporting antagonist. My preferred pick would have been Cillian Murphy (damn you Novroz!) due to his overall creepiness, but I will have to settle for a man who has provedd he can do the bad guy who kills with passion. Meet Rene Lenier from True Blood….Michael Raymond James"

Round 9 Draft Board

2. Movie Guy Steve	"For my ninth and final pick, I need to fill a small but vital role. I had hoped to get Paul Giamatti or Steve Buscemi for this role, but then I read the fine print on Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s contract. He stipulates that he will refuse to make the film if there is no role for Domonique Pinon. So, with my ninth and final selection, I take the rubber-faced Frenchman."
3. Rich	"My 9th-round pick: 80′s Dan Aykroyd"
4. John Parker	"In the ninth round, I introduce my lead to the public: Algenis Perez Soto He’s got a passion for baseball, and experience in a smaller film about it. I think that he will do a wonderful job playing one of my favorite baseball players of all time."
5. Rob Carraher	"I am going to select Charlie Rowe with this pick. The kid did a fantastic job playing a young andrew garfield in never let me go. I will use him as a young ryan gosling in my film."

25. Travis	"For my ninth round pick I need a woman who is as tough as she is beautiful. Someone who can be loved or hated with the snap of a finger. And someone whos worked with Fillion since they will be together a lot. And what sci fi film is complete without some battlestar galactica love? I choose Katee Sackhoff"
26. Nick	"The role calls for an actor that wouldn’t have too big of an ego that he’d want massive screen time. He’d need to be a decent character actor who could easily play a creep. There are a ton out there, but I gotta go with a fan favorite–Elias Koteas."
27. Clara	"I choice Richard Jenkins to play the doctor. He only has a few scenes, but Jenkins always seems to shine. Even in the smallest role. "
28. Nicholas R.	"My protagonist has all that he needs in terms of relationships but one. The one that matters most to most protagonists in a movie; the father. The honour to play the father of Sean Penn, goes none other to the man behind the mask of the original Nite Owl from Watchmen.....Stephen Mchattie"

4. John Parker	"Spike Lee does movies involving race as well as anybody. There's something about his movies that always seemed less "Hollywood" than most. I'll take him and consider using him to direct instead of Eastwood."
5. Rob Carraher	"With my final pick, I select Claire Geare. She played the 3 year old Phillipa in Inception. I need a young child actor to play the daughter of Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway. She will get the part. "

Andrew Kendall	"There's something sort of brilliant about Viola Davis, I was a bit slow to jump on the we-love-her bandwagon, but after watching how she lights up the screen with just a few minutes of screen time (Eat Pray Love, Knight & Day) makes me think I've got to find a place for her in my cast."

25. Travis	"Because I can and because hes my favorite actor I choose Christopher Walken"
26. Nick	"For my final pick of the draft, I need an intelligent man who is also a bit of a doof and pushover. But also, and almost more importantly, there’s not a single Vincenzo Natali film that doesn’t include David Hewlett."

28. Nicholas R.	"Now it’s time for the person who I know for sure no one in this entire draft would ever pick. She’s never been really famous except for two things, CSI and Memento.
