The Hollywood Fantasy Draft Tracker

Discuss the Hollywood Fantasy Draft II here and stay updated with the latest picks by each participants!

After the Draft

After the draft concludes, the 29 participants will be invited to pitch a movie. It can either be an original story of their own creation or a remake of an existing film. More on this when the time comes but there is a few things I want to highlight right now:

  • Length of movie pitches: Last time, we had too many movies pitches that would never have been pitched in real life because they were way too long. Remember that a pitch is just a trailer for a movie you are trying to get made, not the actual script!
  • Movie pitch tournament: Nick suggested that after all the movie pitches are completed, we have a tournament to determine the “best” movie pitch. I think that’s a great idea!
  • You will have at a minimum 10 days to work on your pitch.

Potential Topics to Discuss

  • Who has the most talented cast so far?
  • The best looking one?
  • The one most likely to induce headaches in production?
  • Who are you surprised are still left on the board or were taken too early?

Homework

  • Think about a story and concept for your movie if you haven’t already
  • If you don’t want to pitch a whole original movie, think of an existing movie you want to recast

Note: Do not make picks in this post!

Ripley

Round 1"Rinko Kikuchi. She’s lovely and adorable and has the best facial expressions."
Round 2"David Bowie, because David Bowie."
Round 3Rodrigo Santoro - Explanation laterRodrigo Santoro
Round 4"John Woo is my director."
Round 5"I'll have Old Man Ken Watanabe from Inception. Explanations later"
Round 6Donald Glover
Round 7"Uh...Wayne Knight. He fits my purposes."
Round 8Won Bin
Round 9Anthony HopkinsHannibal Lecter
Round 10Maggie Cheung

Movie Guy Steve

Round 1"I need a lead actor with some gravitas--someone who can play a soul much older than his age. I also need a little bit of sexy-sexy, someone recognizable, and with all-American good looks. Therefore, I select Matt Damon."Matt Damon
Round 2"I need an actress with dramatic chops who can also be drop-dead, knockout, unapproachably gorgeous. To that end, I select Penelope Cruz."
Round 3"I must have an actor with a touch of the exotic about him, and for this film, Spanish is what I need. I want Javier Bardem."
Round 4"I need another actress who can pull off drama and still be a knock-out. I am selecting Maggie Gyllenhaal."
Round 5"Who is that standing in the corner, crying to himself because he's fallen to the fifth round? Could that be Hugh Jackman? Don't worry, Hugh. I've got a part for you. In fact, I may end up giving you the romantic lead."
Round 6"I need someone to play an old professorial type. This character will also act as the narrator of the film. Originally, I wanted Morgan Freeman, but I realized that there are a number of people who could fill this role. Freeman would have been great at it. So would Ian McKellen, but both have been picked. James Earl Jones would kill this role. So would Christopher Lee or Patrick Stewart. However, none of them are going to do this role, because John Hurt is.

John Hurt can do anything, including narrating a romance with supernatural elements. In fact, thanks to Hellboy, he’s actually been a professor in a movie with the supernatural."
Round 7"Now that my main cast is complete, it's time to select the person who is going to tame all of these egos. Since I'm doing a romance, I need someone experienced with directing love stories. But, it's also a very weird romance, so I need someone with experience doing weird. The best person for this is Jean-Pierre Jeunet."
Round 8"We had a great part lined up for Sophia Loren as the mother of the Javier Bardem character. She was very sweet and classy (and if a septuagenarian can be said to give a sexy refusal, she did), but ultimately she turned us down. The script has gone back into re-writes regarding that character, and we’ve changed the role to be the sister of the Javier Bardem character instead. Thankfully, Ana Torrent was still on the board, and we’ve secured her services."
Round 9"For my ninth and final pick, I need to fill a small but vital role. I had hoped to get Paul Giamatti or Steve Buscemi for this role, but then I read the fine print on Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s contract. He stipulates that he will refuse to make the film if there is no role for Domonique Pinon. So, with my ninth and final selection, I take the rubber-faced Frenchman."
Round 10"With my tenth selection, I choose someone to create the musical landscape of my film. To round out my production, I select Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy to create the score for my film."

Rich

Round 1"Will Smith circa 2001 - but not the internationally-known action hero Will Smith; the dramatic actor of ALI, SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION and WHERE THE DAY TAKES YOU (and, five years later, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS). A huge star with proven dramatic skills that should fit very well into the story I tentatively have in mind."
Round 2"Kirk Douglas circa 1958 - after PATHS OF GLORY and THE VIKINGS and just before SPARTACUS. I need somebody tough and intimidating."
Round 3"My next pick is Barbara Stanwyck from her BIG VALLEY era. It’s tempting to grab the younger version of her, but I need a matriarch character, and besides, she’s one of my all-time favorite actresses."
Round 4"Teenage Jodie Foster. I think we knew she was gonna be a star when we first saw her in TAXI DRIVER and she hasn’t let us down since."Jodie Foster
Round 5"My director is Billy Wilder circa 1950s. My favorite director, bar none, he can do it all."
Round 6"Ossie Davis. I've always liked him and I need someone who can do a Southern gentleman."Ossie Davis
Round 7"My leading lady… Dorothy Dandridge."
Round 8"My 8th round pick: Queen Latifah"
Round 9"My 9th-round pick: 80′s Dan Aykroyd"

John Parker

Round 1"Christian Bale
He's not going to be playing a lead role, but I'm sure I'll be able to get my guy significantly later, so I'll go with the guy I believe to be the best actor out there today. Bale is fresh off of a phenomenal performance in The Fighter, and after that and a few of his other movies I'm sure he can play pretty much any role. I'll draft him now and figure out what to do with him later"
Christian Bale GQ
Round 2"Don Cheadle - While there are probably actors who would fit better with my movie, he looks pretty similar to the guy he'll be playing, and is a bigger name who can bring in an audience. Despite being from the United States, some of his most famous movies featured him playing characters from other countries (Ocean's, Hotel Rwanda)."
Round 3"Fresh off of a movie about sports and race, I think that actor/director Clint Eastwood would be the perfect guy to direct my film., and to play a supporting role in it. He has a knack for making very powerful movies that are very well received by the public."
Round 4Rosario Dawson
Round 5"Morgan Freeman and Eastwood are familiar with each other from Invictus, and when I think of older actors who could play the role I have in mind, there’s nobody better than The Narrator"
Round 6Julianne Moore
Round 7Halle Berry
Round 8"For my 8th round pick, i’ll take Stephen Colbert

I need a guy who can play a bigot radio announcer. Something tells me Colbert is capable."
Round 9"In the ninth round, I introduce my lead to the public: Algenis Perez Soto

He’s got a passion for baseball, and experience in a smaller film about it. I think that he will do a wonderful job playing one of my favorite baseball players of all time."
Round 10"Spike Lee does movies involving race as well as anybody. There's something about his movies that always seemed less "Hollywood" than most. I'll take him and consider using him to direct instead of Eastwood."

Rob Carraher

Round 1"I pick Ryan Gosling with my first pick. The actor is the perfect drama leading man and can carry a film with his charisma. He is the perfect guy to headline my film and I wouldn’t want anybody else."
Round 1 (From Castor)"With my second pick in the draft, I want the stunning Natalie Portman. The Oscar winner-to-be will fit my cast very well. She has shown that she has been able to step up into more mature roles as she gets older. I am hoping to use her in a role that would be somewhat similar to the one she played in Brothers. I had originally hoped to snag Amy Adams for this role, but when she was taken off the board, I knew I had to do something to move up and grab Portman before I had to go with my 3rd choice for this role."
Round 4"With my 4th round pick, I select Anne Hathaway. She has shown that she can play both dramatic and comedic roles. I am going to take her for a dramatic role. I am excited to see how she can add to my cast, and help shape my film. I think she has a lot of potential, and I want to uncover that."
Round 5"I am going to select Aaron Johnson with this pick. He is becoming a young star. I want to use him as the seemingly nice young man that ends up mass murdering his girlfriend and her family. He feels right for this part. I'm glad I get the chance to cast him here."Aaron Johnson
Round 6"With my 6th round pick, I select Mia Wasikowska. She is one of the budding stars of the film world today. I think she is captivating. I am thrilled that I can make her a part of my cast."Mia Wasikowska
Round 7"I select Todd Haynes as my director. I like his vision. It should be a nice addition to my team. "
Round 8"Its time to cast some child roles. As a child version of Anne Hathaways character, I select Bailee Madison. She was brilliant as Natalie Portman and Tobey Mcguires daughter in Brothers. I need a great child actress for this role. She’s the right pick here."
Round 9"I am going to select Charlie Rowe with this pick. The kid did a fantastic job playing a young andrew garfield in never let me go. I will use him as a young ryan gosling in my film."
Round 10"With my final pick, I select Claire Geare. She played the 3 year old Phillipa in Inception. I need a young child actor to play the daughter of Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway. She will get the part.
"

Andrew R

Round 1"For the first round I'm going to call up Jack Lemmon. He's one of those few character actors that can make you cry and laugh at the same time without making you feel anything less than sincerity. He's noble, funny and always genuine. Also I'll be taking him at his prime.. in the 50s after The Apartment and such.. not his later years (not to say anything bad about those movies either)"Jack Lemmon
Round 3David Fincher
Round 3 (From Castor)Marion Cotillard
Round 4Guy PearceGuy Pearce
Round 4"That officially goes to Jonah Hill"
Round 5Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence
Round 6"For my next pick I’ll take Ian McKellen… he’ll fit well into my story"
Round 7Michael Pitt
Round 8"For my 8th pick I’ll round out the cast with Eva Marie Saint"
Round 9"Time to get curious…

I will be casting John Goodman"
Round 10Elizabeth Banks

Candice

Round 1"Robert Downey, Jr. –the endless charm and the ability to morph into any character–weak or strong, good or bad–makes him one of the ultimate screen gems."
Round 2"Salma Hayek...because of Frida alone. That proved she's a forced to be recknoned with"
Round 3"Tom Hanks--but as a quirky comedic character. an ode to his vintage comedies. oldies but goodies."
Round 4"Alejandro González Iñárritu. he can sew together anything and make it look beautiful"
Round 5"Kerry Washington. If not as much in previous years, this year she’s proven to be a force to be reckoned with."
Round 6"Chiwetel Ejiofor. I need his versatility"
Round 7"Patricia Clarkson. She's dainty enough to fool you when she's ripping your throat out"
Round 8"Pedro Almodovar. Let's do this"

Marc

Round 1"Put me down for Chris Messina. Explanation later..."
Round 2Sean ConnerySean Connery
Round 3Famke Janssen
Round 4Luc Besson
Round 5Freddie Rodriguez
Round 6Kurt Russell
Round 7Carrie Anne Moss

Robert

Round 1"Alright! I’m going to start off with "Catherine O’Hara, which is kind of predictable for those of you who read my blog. Haha! But I mean, come on – she’s always funny, and even in the worst of movies she’s able to shine. Her characters are always so real and three-dimensional and she’s simply a wonderful actress who does tragicomedy better than anyone else. "
Round 2"I’m going to go ahead and pick William H. Macy. He’s been very funny in movies like “Mystery Men” but obviously, he can handle more dramatic roles, as we’ve seen in his brilliant work in stuff like “Fargo”. I think he’d be perfect for what I have in mind for my project as long as everything else pans out…"Macy, William H.
Round 3"I’m going to take Emma Stone because she’s awesome, funny and can make even the worst of material fantastic."
Round 4"Noah Baumbach: His movies are able to make even the most unlikable characters somehow endearing and his bittersweet comedies are tonally perfect."
Round 5Mark Webber
Round 6Mary Louise Parker
Round 7"I pick Keir Gilchrist…because he’s awesome on United States of Tara and I think he’s going to be a good son for MLP’s character"
Round 8"I need Taraji P. Henson – she’s going to be perfect for the small part I need her for, since no matter how small her screentime is she always manages to shine."
Round 9"For round 9, I need to call upon the talents of Adam Scott. He'll make a perfect husband for MLP and I'm certain that he's got both the comedic and dramatic abilities for the film that I'm envisioning. :)"
Round 10"To finally round out my cast, I'm going to pick Julie Bowen. She's going to play a woman who one of the characters has an affair with, and I feel like she'll be able to be seductive and funny without being one-dimensional, as she's proven in TV work like "Modern Family" and "Weeds". Plus, she just seems right for a Baumbach movie."

Marya

Round 1"For my lead actor I’d like to pick Michael Sheen. He’s such a chameleon."
Round 2"I’m going to pick a director now. I absolutely need David Lynch to helm my film."David Lynch
Round 3"I'd like to go with Elle Fanning. I think she's one of the greatest child actresses working right now (she's not even a teenager yet! Love her sister, too)."
Round 4"Gonna go with Naomi Watts. I need someone who could play an adult version of Elle."
Round 5"I’d like DAME Helen Mirren as grandmother to Elle, mother to Naomi."
Round 6"I'm gonna go with Jackie Earle Haley for a supporting role. I'm sure he'll be great as a middle of nowhere, small-town Boo Radley type."Jackie Earle Haley
Round 7"my next pick is John Hawkes, who will either be Michael Sheen’s travel companion or his brother. haven’t quite decided yet."
Round 8"all these choices are so great! as far as I can tell no one has chosen Viggo Mortensen yet. I'd like "A Walk On The Moon"-era Viggo, re-teamed with Naomi as her on-again, off-again boyfriend who may or may not be the father of Elle."

Andy

Round 1"Neil Marshall - Okay I need to get my director sorted first. I’m not making a film, I’m making a movie, a B movie at that and Neil Marshal is THE man when it comes to modern day B pictures."
Round 2"Colin Farrell – I need an actor with a certain swagger and attitude that can blend action with a little comedy."
Round 3"Sarah Polley - Great actress who should make more movies. And to give a bit of my plot away she has Zombie ass-kicking pedigree."Sarah Polley
Round 4"Mark Strong - The first rule in Hollywood, you need a British villain. As Jason Isaacs is busy playing a “political hit man" on a rival project I have gone to Hollywood’s current go to British Villain Mark Strong."Mark Strong
Round 5"Melissa George – A talented but underrated actress from Australia, she has mainly been utilised in supporting roles or leading roles in B horrors, with a background like this she will fit right in with my ensemble."
Round 6"Gael García Bernal - A versatile and talented actor, I have two parts in mind for him."
Round 7"Monica Bellucci - playing against type I have a great part for her."
Round 8"Jamie Bell - I need someone to play a slightly unhinged sociopath"
Round 9"Yumiko Shaku - for the part of henchmen/killer my first choice of Cillian Murphy was already take, who is the obvious replacement? Yumiko Shaku who else!"
Round 10"Alan Dale - I have had a a few changes of direction for this final casting choice. I have finally settled on Alan Dale who is probably now best known as Charles Widmore in Lost."

Lacie

Round 1"Amy Adams"
Round 2"Lacie takes Christopher Nolan with her pick. Once again was unable to pick this morning."Christopher Nolan
Round 3"I pick Ellen Page. Because she rocks. She can play older or younger. Has a blend able presence or a unique one."
Round 4Anton Yelchin
Round 5Shia LaBeouf
Round 6Jude Law

Scarlett_Sp1der

Round 1"Ridley Scott, director. Directed several great films both visual and thought-provoking in their depictions of the story told. Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Sir Ridley Scott."
Round 2"Unfortunately my first two choices of Scarlett Johansson and Emily Blunt have been taken. Congrats to Team Clara and Team CS. Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Kate Beckingsale for Round 2."Kate Beckinsale
Round 3"Aaron Eckhart- because of his ability to play the villain Two-Face. In need of someone to
possibly/believably play both sides."
Round 4""For Round 4 Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Ali Larter to the team. Initially the role was offered to Famke Janssen, but she sided with Team Marc. We wish her well. However Team ScarletSp1der is greatly excited about the future with Ali Larter as the seductive and fiesty counterpart in this film.""
Round 5"For Round 5 Team ScarletSp1der initially made the offer to Sean Connery to come out of retirement, but it looks like, once again, Team Marc paid him more. In his stead we welcome James Cromwell to play the role of the father figure with questionable motives and past. "James Cromwell
Round 6"Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Djimon Hounsou to the team in this Round! - able to be cutthroat, but humane in a role. An oxymoron possibly and character of intrique and mystery. Welcome Djimon Hounsou!"Djimon Hounsou
Round 7"Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Sally Field- to fill the role of a lady attracted to power, but that has fallen victim to the vices around her over time."
Round 8"For this first supplemental round, Team ScarletSp1der was negotiating with Abbie Cornish but she and her picky agent chose another film, so I welcome Lily Collins to play younger sister to Kate Beckingsale’s character. daughter to James Cromwell and Sally Field."
Round 9 "For this last and final pick, Team ScarletSp1der welcomes Paul Giamatti- needed as a stoic, dependable character for which the main characters depend upon for stability, and the audience depends upon for comedy.
"

Joel

Round 1"My first pick is Jesse Eisenberg. If I get the cast together, Jesse will be typecast as the computer geek who stumbles upon some dangerous information. If I have to go with another story I'll be happy to trade him."
Round 2"My 2nd round pick
Zooey Deshanel! Zooey have already shown several times that she can handle playing the goofy cute girl. In this film she will get a chance to play in a more dramatic environment."
Zooey Deschanel
Round 3"Holly Hunter. She'll be playing Jesse's mom."
Round 4"I pick Jason Isaacs. It will be the second time I cast him in a draft and this time it will be a more stereotypical role as a political hit man."Jason Isaacs
Round 5"Emily Deshanel

I’ll do a reverse tribute to the Deshanel sisters playing cousins in Bones. Emily will be Zooeys cousin an lawyer who tries to help Jesse out."

Round 6"Director Michael Mann: He might not be the only director brought in for this projects, negotiations have started for a possible co-director partner. The only clause/Obligation for Mann on the film is that he makes is as Insideresque as possible!!!"
Round 7"Sharon Stone - She will brought in to play the head of Police in Sweden."
Round 8"I add a co-director:

Alan J. Pakula

With a bunch of political thrillers on his resume he will be the perfect director partner of Michael Mann."

Ruth

Round 1"Michael Fassbender. I haven’t figured out what my story is going to be about, but Fassbender has been impressive in a bunch of things I saw lately (Inglourious Basterds, Centurion) and his upcoming work (Jane Eyre, A Dangerous Method) prove that he’s a versatile actor who I’d like to see more of."
Round 2"Since Rufus is on my list of seven talented actors who deserve more leading roles, and I've been complaining how underutilized he is in Hollywood, I think he'd be perfect for my story. He's sooo easy on the eyes but with an enormous talent and versatility to match. Now the trick is finding a leading lady who deserves him :D"
Round 3"My 3rd pick would be Charlize Theron. I need an exotic beauty who's intelligent and has an air of mystery about her, Theron would fit the bill nicely. She'll be sporting a darker hair instead of her usual blond locks."
Round 4"For my 4th pick, I select director Joe Wright. I'm impressed w/ Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and the guy can do romance!"
Round 5"For round 5 I pick Emily Watson. I need a solid mature actress who’s smart and witty for the role of a novelist. She’s so under-appreciated despite churning out consistently good performances."
Round 6"I select Alan Rickman for my 6th pick. If you think he'd be playing a villain, think again. The seasoned Brit is more than a one trick pony. He'd be playing Charlize's estranged father."
Round 7"Rosamund Pike – I need a British young woman to play Charlize's step sister. Rosamund has impressed me in several movies (no, not THAT Bond movie!) and she'll be a good addition to my cast."
Round 8"I need a middle-aged actress to fill a sympathetic stepmother role, for that I choose Brenda Blethyn."
Round 9"And for the flashback scenes, Rupert Penry-Jones (from British series MI-5/Spooks) will play the younger Alan Rickman as a British naval officer during WWII"

Amy W.

Round 1"I'm going with Andy Whitfield, he pulled off playing Spartacus so ahem I think he can probably do anything"
Round 2"I’m going with Will Forte. Always hilarious, and he can write too!"

Anna

Round 1"My first actor will be Rock Hudson. He'll be fitting for the role I have in mind for him."
Round 2"My next pick is Doris Day. If you couldn't tell already, she and Rock will be a couple in my project. And that's all I'll say on that. ;)"
Round 3"My next pick is Montgomery Clift. A popular actor when he was alive but has now slipped into obscurity, he was one of the Method actors during his time on this earth."Montgomery Clift
Round 4"My fourth actor is Thelma Ritter. She had made a career as a character actress and I intend to use that wisely. Her part isn't very big, but it's a good one."Thelma Ritter
Round 5"Actor #5 is Lee J. Cobb. I really loved his work in On the Waterfront and 12 Angry Men, but the part I have in mind for him is small but good."
Round 6"My final actor is Lee Remick. She really impressed me with her work in Days of Wine and Roses and Anatomy of a Murder. Though much like Ritter and Cobb, her role will be small but notable."
Round 7"My director will be Otto Preminger. He was known for introducing touchy subjects to movies (think of him as the Golden Age version of Oliver Stone), making him the ideal candidate for my movie."
Round 8"Personally, I’m surprised no one bothered to take him (especially you, Clara, looking for the handsome dead actor and all). Anyway, moving on.

My choice for the supplemental round is Tony Curtis. I haven’t fully decided on what his part will be, but I know enough that it’ll be an important one."

Sebastian

Round 1"Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Well, what did you expect? Of course I would take this guy! I need a guy with versatility, and there is no one with more versatility than JoGo."
Round 2"Zachary Quinto - For my film, I need a villain of the highest order, and Quinto proved that he could do that with Heroes, as well as show some great emotional range with Star Trek."Zachary Quinto
Round 3"For my Round 3 pick, I select Neill Blomkamp as my director. I need someone who can do a sci-fi actioner in a realistic manner, and Blomkamp is one of the best. "
Round 4"For my 4th pick, I’ll take Rooney Mara. She hasn’t really starred in anything of the sci-fi, action, type before, and I think she has what it takes. I need a strong, passionate female lead to play off JoGo, and, if her stinging break up from The Social Network is any indication, then she has the chops."
Round 5"For my fifth pick, Olivia Wilde, if you please. She's proven that she can do that she can hold her own in a sci-fi action pic, and that she can do realistic stuff as well. Perfect for me. She'll make a good quasi antagonist."
Round 6"If it pleases the court, for my sixth pick, I will take Tom Wilkinson. I need someone who can play a conflicted, quite possibly corrupt head of a corporation, and Wilkinson certainly fits that bill. "
Round 7"For my seventh pick, I'll take Cate Blanchett, because, she's Cate Blanchett... and she was Galadriel!"

Richard

Round 1"But here I am and my first pick is a great director who looks a bit like a baby. The one and only Alfred Hitchcock. I’m thinking thriller for my second movie and who better?"
Round 2"Sorry I'm late. Again. Busy time. Anyway, for my second pick I'm going for age and experience. His star pulling power may have wavered, but he still has gravitas and, on his day, can put in a great performance. Step forward, Harrison Ford."Harrison Ford
Round 3"For round three I'm continuing my collection of seasoned actors with Tommy Lee Jones. With a face like granite, Jones exudes a quiet authority and confident wisdom. Just what I'm looking for."Tommy Lee Jones
Round 4"My fourth choice is Vera Farmiga. She's blonde, icy and sexy. This is a Hitchcock movie, after all."Vera Farmiga
Round 5"For my fifth pick I'm going for Laurie Holden. She's an underrated actress, mostly appearing in genre movies and TV, but I'm convinced that Hitchcock would fall for her in an instant if he were still around. "
Round 6"My sixth pick is Johnny Depp. I need someone who can do charming and creepy at the same time. Besides myself, of course."
Round 7"For my seventh pick I'm going for Willem Dafoe, who's always good value. I need that amiable mania."
Round 8"I’m finishing up my cast with Anna Faris. It’s about time she was given a decent role. She’s wasted in most of what she does."

Novroz

Round 2 (From Castor)"Cillian Murphy: As a producer (be it a real one or just a fantasy) I can assure you that this man will always be in my movie, whether as the leading role or supporting role or even just a cameo (a credited one unlike in tron where he was uncredited).
Cillian Murphy is an actor that has both gorgeous face and great talent in acting. Whatever role I'm going to give him, I am sure he can pull it off easily. He has done his share as a split personality person (one is a shy man and the other is a woman), a transvestite, a disturbed teenager, a psychopath, and many more. A comedy movie will be an easy task for him."
Round 2"For my second pick, I choose Edgar Wright.
Edgar Wright has done a great job in Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. He is the perfect director to direct my movie because I'll be making a movie with the same atmospher as those movies (with less blood)."
Round 3"My 3rd pick is Danny DeVito. My second leading man is this funny little guy that seems to have lost his charm lately but he hasn't lost it on me. Danny has a wonderful way to make people laugh. When Castor annouced this 2nd Fantasy draft, his name is the 1st one to pop in my head."Danny DeVito
Round 4"Hiroshi Abe is a funny man with serious face. I love the way he makes me laugh without changing his face expression. He is the perfect cast for a disaster-maker."
Round 5"For my 5th and my last pick, I choose Simon Pegg to accompany Edgar Wright as scriptwriter. The combination of those two in writing script is awesomely funny. He will also appear as Cameo.

I know we don't have to pick a scrpt writer but Simon Pegg is one packet with Wright ;) ... However, if anyone want to take him, I'll let him go and I will mention him in my pitch later. He might have a better spot in someone else's movie."

Castor

Round 1 (From Novroz)"Rachel McAdams - I don’t really need to say anything about Rachel McAdams anymore. I just had to get my favorite Canuck for my remake of Troll 2."Rachel McAdams Morning Glory
Round 2 (From Andrew R)"I select Chris Pine. From Star Trek to Unstoppable, Pine has revealed himself to be an exciting up-and-coming actor with potentially great screen presence."
Round 2 (From Rob C)"There isn't too many more in-demand actress than the Oscar-nominated Carey Mulligan so it is time for me to sign her up before someone else snatches her away."
Round 3 (From Nicholas)"6-time Oscar Nominated Kate Winslet is mine! And no, I'm not making a holocaust movie!!!"Kate Winslet
Round 5"After sitting in the green room for 3 days, Team Castor selected the sliding Leonardo DiCaprio with the 137th pick in the Hollywood Fantasy Draft. After being asked by a reporter about why so many team passed up on him, DiCaprio savagely attacked him before being restrained by Castor. He was then heard yelling “All these people passing on me will regret it until their last breath!”"
Round 6"With the 154th pick, I select Tom Hardy. He broke out with Inception, and he will establish himself as the most wasted talent ever in my Troll 2 remake."
Round 7"With 195th pick, Team Castor selects Barry Pepper, one of the most underrated working actor in Hollywood."
Round 8"Terrence Malick will direct my remake of Troll 2. Although you can certainly expect him to capture the beauty of grass waving in the wind while Carey Mulligan gets eaten by a marauding horde of trolls, be assured that he will also edit the movie to perfection even if it takes 10 years."
Round 9"You may remember him from Casino Royale, Syriana, and Cadillac Records. With my 9th round pick, team Castor selects the criminally underrated but awesome Jeffrey Wright!! "
Round 10"Sadly, she doesn't get a lot of work anymore as she is getting younger but I'm going to change that. With my final selection, I select the ever-so likable Diane Keaton!"

Michael

Round 1"I want James Franco with my first pick. I thought James Franco would be the perfect fit for my leading man with what I'm thinking about doing for this film. He's shown that he has some serious acting chops with some of his past work (see: 127 Hours) and he's got the comedic talent that should be able to help carry my movie."
Round 2"With my second pick, I’m taking my director (and writer)…JUDD APATOW. I don’t think there were that many really good, laugh out loud comedies this year and it’s about time he worked his magic again with another writer/director effort (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People)."
Round 3"I pick Seth Rogen because, plain and simple, you can't have an Apatow film without him. Has good chemistry with director and leading man already, should be good fit."Seth Rogen
Round 4"Gonna go with Anna Kendrick as my female lead. Liked her in Up in the Air and even her small part in Scott Pilgrim, kind of wanna see her in a bigger role. Think she could do well opposite of Franco."
Round 5Jenna FischerJenna Fischer
Round 6Jason Segel
Round 7"Give me Zoe Saldana"

Andrew Kendall

Round 1"As a leading lady she’s noted for her ability to portray strong characters even when they’re decidedly flawed, and she’s good enough to hold down the screen even the film she’s starring in features a large ensemble."
Round 2"Jack Nicholson. Why? First, I'm afraid someone will scoop him up - but I do need him for the film I'm making. He can be smarmy and villainous but he also never turns the men he plays into caricatures, and he has the charisma to loom over a film even if he's not the leading man."
Round 3"God, all these lost folks have made it difficult to choose, so I decided I'm going to go with Anthony Mackie. He has a general austerity than can be mistaken for arrogance, but he still manages to show startling emotional depth - which would be a big asset for my film."
Round 4"Mark Ruffalo, just because."
Round 5"Laurence Fishburne is always being praised, and the man sure is talented...but he can play more than those tough, militants he's always given to embody. It's time for his name to stop being synonymous with Ike Turner and Morpheus. He won't be the lead of my project, but he has a nice emotional arc opposite The Bening."
Round 6"I had wanted an exotic probably European, preferably Spanish actress but alas Penelope was snatched from my grasp, as was Salma. I said, hey, French is fine – but Marion went to too. What to do, what to do….I decided I’d come to South America and take a chance on Sofia Vergara. She has a whole lot of obvious passion, which I need for the role…it’s not quite comic relief but (though it does have bits of humour) and I think that, given the right script, she could deliver with more than just incidental humour."
Round 7"Abbie Cornish, I decided I’d not use Carey Mulligan again and go for Abbie instead. She has just the right amount of grace for the role I want her in."
Round 8"Now is as good a time as any to pick my director, Mile Nichols. Supremely underrated, but not at all lacking in talent. He's a trooper when it come to balancing the horror of life against the inadvertent bits of humour."
Round 9""I don't think it's four yet so, umm, I'm going with Jodelle Ferland. With all the young female actors getting attention I'm surprised Ferland hasn't taken off. Sure she's no Saoirse Ronan, but she's good enough.""
Round 10"There's something sort of brilliant about Viola Davis, I was a bit slow to jump on the we-love-her bandwagon, but after watching how she lights up the screen with just a few minutes of screen time (Eat Pray Love, Knight & Day) makes me think I've got to find a place for her in my cast."

Red

Round 1Red selects The Coen Brothers
Round 2"80's Bill Murray"Bill Murray
Round 3Joan Crawford
Round 4Sam Rockwell
Round 5Marlon Brando
Round 6Shirley McLaine
Round 7Helena Bonham Carter
Round 8"Continuing with the batch of wacky picks, I’ll go with Brad Dourif."
Round 9Robert Duvall
Round 10"And just because I can, I’m going with Courtney Love. "

Travis

Round 1Stanley Kubrick
Round 2Nathan Fillion
Round 3Adam Baldwin
Round 4" I pick Lena Headey. More on why later"
Round 5Michael Biehn
Round 6Summer Glau
Round 7"My choice is David Wenham"
Round 8"For my pick I choose someone no war movie should be without. R lee emery"
Round 9"For my ninth round pick I need a woman who is as tough as she is beautiful. Someone who can be loved or hated with the snap of a finger. And someone whos worked with Fillion since they will be together a lot. And what sci fi film is complete without some battlestar galactica love? I choose Katee Sackhoff"
Round 10"Because I can and because hes my favorite actor I choose Christopher Walken"

Nick

Round 1"For my first choice, I’m going with Ben Foster. He can be likable, passionate, heroic, and a wee bit insane if the role so calls. This should also be no surprise to anyone who knows me or my blog."Ben Foster
Round 2"My second pick goes to Saoirse Ronan. She's a great teen actress with plenty of spunk and who isn't afraid to go dark if need be. Not to mention her eyes are just haunting."
Round 3"Third Pick. I need a young actress who can start off nice and sweet, go through terrible scenarios and remain strong, and then end up hardcore (though obviously broken). While originally an alternate, my choice of Chloe Moretz sounds better and better the more I think about it."
Round 4"I need an everyman who could go from pushover to incredibly disturbed and disturbing in a short time span. There's no one better at that than Kevin Bacon."Kevin Bacon
Round 5"I wasn't originally going to go with actors who had died, but after somebody else chose James Franco, I had to scramble. I need someone who can play an authority figure. But I also need someone who can show us the fine balance between dedication and obsession, someone who can emote the possible slip from sanity and all that is logical while also grasping on to reality. Over his short years, Heath Ledger magnificently showed us all of these qualities in his roles."
Round 6"I need somebody who can play a woman you just hate, but in the way that is realistic and because it was acted brilliantly. I don’t mean to typecast this poor woman, but she does what I need so very well… and that’s Marcia Gay Harden."
Round 7"Only one director immediately sprang to mind for this project. I need someone who can do paranoia and claustrophobia, someone who can give us incredibly flawed characters and make us love some but hate others. This director has to have a knack for pulling off disturbing situations. And then, of course, open endings. Through films like Cube, Cypher, and Splice, Vincenzo Natali has proven his mastery at all of this."
Round 8"This role was difficult, as I need someone who could give us both an air of authority, yet also a sense of uncertainty. She has to show power, but she also has to be able to let her emotions control her. She can't be too young or too old. And she has to be sexy. Thandie Newton fits this pretty well."
Round 9"The role calls for an actor that wouldn’t have too big of an ego that he’d want massive screen time. He’d need to be a decent character actor who could easily play a creep. There are a ton out there, but I gotta go with a fan favorite–Elias Koteas."
Round 10"For my final pick of the draft, I need an intelligent man who is also a bit of a doof and pushover. But also, and almost more importantly, there’s not a single Vincenzo Natali film that doesn’t include David Hewlett."

Clara

Round 1"I stayed up late so I wouldn’t miss my turn… I choose Scarlett Johansson."
Round 2"My 2nd pick is Ryan Reynolds. For the sake of box office and marketing, we are going to pretend this Hollywood couple is not getting a divorce."
Round 3"For my 3rd round pick, I chose Kathryn the Great. Katherine Hepburn."
Round 4"My 4th round pick is Francis McDormand. She has just the right combination of Southern charm and meaness I need for my movie."
Round 5Jeff Bridges
Round 6"Martin Scorcese for director"Martin Scorsese
Round 7"My choice is Bill Pullman. I need someone who can play the supporting role of the under appreciated brother."
Round 8"I can’t believe my pick for this supporting role is still available. Even though he is difficult to work with, I chose James Dean for this role. It is a small part, but it sets the stage for the entire story."
Round 9"I choice Richard Jenkins to play the doctor. He only has a few scenes, but Jenkins always seems to shine. Even in the smallest role. "

Nicholas R.

Round 1"For this movie I would have to choose Darren Aronofsky as my director. I have seen all of his films except The Wrestler (which I seek to amend soon) and love them all (except Pi) and find his directing some of the best work in the business today and it would be a joy to have him on my Team."
Round 2"For my 2nd round pick I choose Sean Penn. Sean Penn has shown himself to be a versatile actor throughout his career playing different roles in almost all of his movies and it would be a joy to work with him for the 1st time on this movie which I hope will be a blast."
Round 3 (From Castor from Rob C)"Since Renner is now mine (evil laugh), I'll talk abot him. After seeing Renner in The Hurt Locker and The Town, you know he can play the bad guy (I count the Hurt Locker because he was his own antagonist) but after seeing him in The Unusuals (which they need to bring back! come on ABC!) I know he can be the witty, charming guy that a proper antagonist needs to be to smart talk his way out of situations with the protagonist and other characters. So that is why it was vital for me to get this guy for my movie (coming 2012)"Jeremy Renner
Round 4"For this round I shall secure an actress with great performances in both Requiem for a Dream and Dark City. Welcome to Team Nicholas Robinson… Jennifer Connelly. (crowd goes wild)"
Round 5"For my 5th pick of this fun draft, I pick an actress who has proven her chops i Across the Universe and the last season of True Blood. Reuniting with Darren Aronofsky will be... Evan Rachel Wood!"
Round 6"Now for my child of the draft!!! For this movie I require achild with dramatic acting chops, and that honour goes to none other than... Max Records!"
Round 7"For my next pick, I need someone who can be tough, serious and a little bit not by the book. He will be Sean Penn's best friend in this movie. Please welcome the new member of Team Nicholas Robinson...Mark Wahlberg (affectionately called Marky Mark)"
Round 8"Now I have a protagonist, his ex-wife, his son, his best friend, a supporting character and my antagonist. It is time to pick my secondary/supporting antagonist. My preferred pick would have been Cillian Murphy (damn you Novroz!) due to his overall creepiness, but I will have to settle for a man who has provedd he can do the bad guy who kills with passion. Meet Rene Lenier from True Blood….Michael Raymond James"
Round 9"My protagonist has all that he needs in terms of relationships but one. The one that matters most to most protagonists in a movie; the father. The honour to play the father of Sean Penn, goes none other to the man behind the mask of the original Nite Owl from Watchmen.....Stephen Mchattie"
Round 10"Now it’s time for the person who I know for sure no one in this entire draft would ever pick. She’s never been really famous except for two things, CSI and Memento. From both these roles, she has what it takes to play the role I have planned for her. Welcome to Team Nicholas Robinson, the final member of the cast…..Jorja Fox!"

I have to say I can’t wait to hear what Lacie and Ruth have planned.

  2. Ripley says:

    Dammit, Marya stole my director…

  3. Anna says:

I’m already suspecting Travis’ movie will be in production hell. I mean, what do you expect if you have Kubrick as the director?

  4. Rich says:

I’d pay good money to see a Coen Bros movie with 80s Bill Murray!

  5. Nick says:

I’m excited for Robert’s. I mean, Catherine O’Hara, William H. Macy, and Emma Stone in one movie? That just screams quirk and fun.

  6. Joel Burman says:

    Define best looking cast? =)

  7. Joel Burman says:

I wanna use the tracker as trade zone aswell!

I am willing to trade Zooey and Jason Isaacs for Amy Adams (Lacie got her) if Lacie is interested or someone else get the groundwork done and sends her my way is of lesser importance. I might even consider to throw Jesse in the deal instead of Jason if that is really important for you? Anyone interested???

  8. Marya says:

I forgot I changed my story a bit and Naomi is playing Elle’s mother, not an adult version of her.

  9. last time I just went with a bunch of my favorites (reynolds, d. Wahlberg, cooper, chris nolan, freeman, nichlson, hathaway, mcgowan, knightly) bur this time im trying to create a cohesive cast that would realistically work with my movie. My movie is based on my first failed novel/screenplay (i swear hollywood and publishers are so cruel) which is a war film in space (there’s more to it but ill get into the plot more when the time comes). My choice of kubrick comes from my love of his 3 war films and my love of his techniques. I know he was a bit of a pill to work with but he was a damn good director.

  10. Surprises…

We’re deep into round 5 as I write this, and Edward Norton is still on the board. Johnny Depp is still on the board. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are still on the board. Helena Bonham Carter is still on the board. Virtually the entire cast of the Lord of the Rings movies are still available. And no one has selected Tim Burton or Quentin Tarantino as directors.

    Color me mildly surprised.

  11. I have no problem with it getting stamped firefly/serenity esque. Its better than being stamped as terrible lol

  12. Robert says:

I love what Michael’s got brewing. Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick and Jenna Fischer, it’s just going to be too endearing to resist! Haha

  13. Anna says:

Clara, upon my decision of casting Montgomery Clift for my project, you commented that you needed to find another handsome dead actor for a supporting role in yours. You got it easy; most of the handsome actors ARE dead. And considering who hasn’t been picked yet, you really got it easy.

  14. Castor says:

I have Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Carey Mulligan on the trading block. It seems that they are reading this blog and got vent that they are signed up for a Troll 2 remake. They are not happy.

  15. Patricia Clarkson. She’s dainty enough to fool you when she’s ripping your throat out :)

  16. Pedro Almodovar. Let’s do this.

  17. Anna says:

Johnny Depp in a Hitchcock movie? That’s so many levels of awesome I can’t describe.

  18. Clarabela says:

    Anna,

What a great idea to use all classic actors in your movie. I can’t wait to see your pitch. Especially with Otto Preminger as director. I am sure this won’t be the typical Rock Hudson/Doris Day movie.

  19. Clarabela says:

The idea of Shirley McClain and Marlon Brando in a Coen Brothers movie is intriguing. I also think Helena Bonham Carter would be wonderful in one of their movies. Perhaps she (and Johnny Depp) should take a break from Tim Burton for a while.

  20. Anna says:

This is going to be the fun thing about my movie. It has actors from the 50′s, it’s set in the 50′s, but here’s the catch: the movie ain’t gonna be under Production Code regulations.

  21. Joel Burman says:

Great work everyone with putting together some great casts and thanks a ton to Castor for putting it all together! You are a trooper! If there is one blogger I’d give a fulltime blogging scholarship to it would be a tie between you and Oscar over at http://www.skidpepp.se (Swedish crosscoutry skiing blog)!

  22. Nicholas says:

Well…now that I look at everyone’s complete cast I do not know which one I am most excited for. Everyone has a great cast going with some people who I would never have thought of picking. I’m 1st so hopefully I don’t set the bar too low with my pitch

    • Anna says:

Which one would you say you are the most curious about, if you had to choose?

      • Nicholas says:

Curious as in where the fuck is that going??? goes to Andrew R

Curious as in hmmm…that seems weird goes to Marya (just for having David Lynch)

AND Curios as in most interesting goes to (I wish I could say me)I think Clara

  23. Anna says:

The only detail I’m giving for my movie is this: it’s a romantic drama.

(A far cry from the last movie, huh?)

  24. Nicholas says:

I’ll give one clue for mine… it’s going to be depressing

  25. Anna says:

I’m really surprised that no one went crazy with the classic names (except me LOL). I mean, there were a few who chose some really big names (ie, Hitchcock, Hepburn, Lemmon, Brando) but not many. Again, I’m really surprised.
