Fifteen Movie Questions Meme
I spotted this neat little list of Q&A over at Cinematic Paradox, and I liked it so much I’m going to give it a go. Thanks to Stevee Taylor of Cinematic Paradox and of course Anna from Defiant Success for coming up with the idea in the first place. Keep it up, gals!
1. Movie you love with a passion.
Before Sunrise. I considered putting Casablanca here (what a romantic am I), but there are few movies that meet the immense charm of this Richard Linklater film. And the best part: the movie never even seems to try.

2. Movie you vow to never watch.
Cinématon. Tricky, because I sort of vowed to open myself up to anything. Perhaps this is a bit of a cheat, because the only reason is it’s length, but almost a week (seriously, 161 bloody hours) is just pushing it.

3. Movie that literally left you speechless.
I’m Not There. Blrugh. Blaawhl. Phlubslm.

4. Movie you always recommend.
The Fall. Because I’m a hipster, that’s why. And because it’s fucking awesome.

5. Actor/actress you always watch, no matter how crappy the movie.
Nicolas Cage. I don’t really have an idol that I love so much I’d sit through a crappy movie just to see them act. But Nicolas Cage is one of those persons who can make himself the shiny gem in even the worst film. How? By being so much worse then the film itself that he just commands respect. Also, his hairdo alone is always an attraction by itself.

6. Actor/actress you don’t get the appeal for.
Megan Fox. This lady landed on top of Empire’s list of sexiest female movie stars. I honestly don’t understand why. Everybody can have a body like that nowadays; it’s your charm that should do the work. Of which miss Fox has absolutely zero.

7. Actor/actress, living or dead, you’d love to meet.
Fred Astaire. I’m sort of in love with this guy ever since I’ve seen Swing Time. There is no way having a cup of coffee with this gentleman would not be a blast. Well, maybe if he has to come back as a zombie first and tries to eat my brain. But he would do even that with style.

8. Sexiest actor/actress you’ve seen. (Picture required!)
Charlotte Gainsbourg. Whispery French dream chick. Sweep me up.

9. Dream cast.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a Richard Linklater film. Honestly, put those two together and I’m in heaven. But I don’t really have a dream cast to speak of: if the actors do their job well, I’m perfectly content. Some of my favorite movies feature nothing but virtually unknown actors.
10. Favorite actor pairing.
Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman. I’m a walking clichemachine, but seriously: they could both sport a fedora and look wicked awesome. How can you top that?

11. Favorite movie setting.
The South Pole. Have you seen The Thing? If so, we understand each other. If not, go see The Thing, yeh heathen.

12. Favorite decade for movies.
The 1960′s. Amidst all the peace, love and weed some amazing filmmaking happened, with movies that were revolutionarily gory and explicit. Apparently filmmakers don’t like hippies either.

I have literally no idea what it is, but you have to admit it looks pretty neat
13. Chick flick or action movie?
Neither. Honestly, there are few things I hate more then generic genre movies. The fact that stuff explodes don’t redeem action movies for me.
14. Hero, villain or anti-hero?
Anti-Hero. I like me some morally ambiguous characters who don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Preferably really weird ones. Awh yeah, talk quirky to me, baby.

15. Black and white or color?
Although the “correct” answer here would be that both are equal, I think I prefer color. It adds a lot more emotional range to a shot. But black and white is stylish as hell, I’ll give it that, and it allows for tighter shot composition.
So, those were my answers! What are yours?
Max

Dogtooth is the most uncomfortable movie i’ve ever watched. Like from beginning to end, it was just so uncomfortable to watch…although part of that came from the plot summary the family situation as idyllic…which was so far from the truth
Oh, and on the dvd cover, one of the reviews quoted said it was “Hilarious.” How someone could find that movie hilarous is beyond me
I do see ‘hilarious,’ the ‘Dogtooth’ dance becoming a cult classic as much as the movie itself. I want to know the choreo of that dance. It’d have been easier if they danced on 8-counts.
Idyllic? God, I want to meet the person who described the movie’s family and setting as that. I didn’t like ‘Dogtooth’ the moment the credits started rolling, but it ferments and it’s a really smart film.
Great picks. Still haven’t seen the fall … It’s been on my must-watch-soon list for almost a year, but never get round to it!
I actually am a Before Sunset devotee, but Before Sunrise is lovely as hell. We have the decade common. Gotta love the 60s . And gotta respect Mr. Cage!
Great List
I’m saving Before Sunset for when I’m 30 as well, so that the characters age with me. I don’t know if I’ll be able to constrain myself, but I’ll try
And yes, mr. Cage must be respected.
I think I saw Before Sunset when I was 13
I saw that before Before Sunrise also, so I knew what was to come.
I like all your responses …. I see a lot of commonality; it gives me something to think about.
Paolo – When I first went through the list and saw #1 I was thinking that the Madea film was the film you love with a passion …. I was about to say Paolo, Paolo, Paolo ….
Andrew – lovely Keira Knightley snap!
I second this one, Andrew. No love for Keira? Is it all the period films? I mean, if I had a dime for every time I’ve fantasized about The Edge Of Love…wait, was that out loud. Never mind.
I’m with Andrew on this one. She really doesn’t strike as much of an actress.
I thought Keira (formerly Ikea) Knightley was pretty good in Never Let Me Go.
The peak of Keira’s acting chops is Never Let Me Go. I’m kind of scared that she’s going to be better but will be ignored because of the hype she had in the first years of her career.
I sort of like her. She was good in Atonement. And she’s really pretty.
This is brilliant. Thumbs up to Stevee and Anna. I must do this, no matter how hard it is…
I just finished mine – it really is a lot of fun!
Great job with this list. I agree about Before Sunrise, and think I even enjoyed Before Sunset more relating to my current age of 35. And you’re definitely right about Megan Fox. Honestly, I guess she’s attractive, but like you say, her grating personality makes it almost impossible to consider her anywhere near the top of even totally superficial “sexiest” lists. Also, to call her a movie star is also a stretch. Her career is going downhill fast.
Well, she was in two enormously big movies. I guess that qualifies her.
I love this idea because it gives all of your readers a peek into what makes your movie brains tick.
Paolo: I’ve seen Holy Smoke twice. The movie’s rough, yeah, but Kate’s so good.
Thanks for the link back to my site! And Nicolas Cage is the best! He’s just so entertaining!
Thank you for posting the meme first, otherwise I’d never gotten note of it : ) You have a fine blog.
And yes, Nicolas Cage is awesome. Nothing more needs to be said about that.
Awesome choices all around, great work guys!
The Fall looks pretty impressive, I may have to watch it.
And it’s been said before but I’ll say it again, Nic Cage is awesome!
Nice lists boys! I almost went with D-fens in my post as well.
What a great choice for sexiest. Gainsbourg would never be counted as a typical beauty which is why she is so sexy. Well that and she has so much talent and baby, talent is sexy as all hell.
Once is a very good recommendation. I love the story and the music is amazing. I still listen to it occasionally
Adding flame to the Keira fire: http://www.totalfilm.com/features/best-worst-keira-knightley-1
I meant fuel not flame – duh
No you want to add a flame to the fire. Please do lol
definitely agree on some of your choices …especially richard gere never got that either
Paolo: Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately I haven’t seen Dogtooth but I might have to after your comment haha
