The Game

You are a producer with a hot movie script which has been green-lit by the studio and it’s time for you to find your dream director and cast. The budget for your principal talent is $50 million and not one penny more. You will engage in bidding wars with competing producers to get the services of the actors and directors you want for your movie! As your funds dwindle, difficult decisions will have to be made.

The Rules

Producers will take turn nominating actors. Bidding will start immediately and continue until there is no more bidding for at least 30 minutes.

  • Auction style – 7 Rounds (6 actors and 1 director)
  • Selections are made in the comments
  • To avoid mistakes and confusion, you must comment within the thread for each nomination and name the talent by name
  • A bid automatically starts at $1 million
  • Nominated actors will go to the highest bidder after 30 minutes of no bids
  • You cannot bid more money than you need to finish filling your roster of 6 actors and 1 director
  • If you nominate a talent that no one else bids on, you become the owner at the cost of $1 million
  • You can only nominate living people
  • No time limit: Bids will be closed at the commissioner’s discretion after at least 30 minutes of inactivity
  • The auction draft will run until the draft is completed. However, it will not run continuously and the commissioner will decide when to stop for the day.
  • The draft will be circular (not a snake)
  • Incorrect bids can be canceled retroactively by the commissioner (don’t spend more than you have)
  • Trading picks is allowed
  • Example of an auction draft

  18. rtm says:

What time is the draft closed tonight Castor?

    • Castor says:

It will just keep going till everyone has finished their cast :)

      • rtm says:

I can’t participate anymore but I’ve got my key cast in place so I’ll just see who’s still available to draft later tonight. It’s been fun, everyone! Thanks again Castor for organizing this.

  19. Nick says:

Well… I think I’m done, guys! I’m left with 42 mil… but I can’t think of anyone else. Unless I just want some super awesome big-name cameo appearance. Actually, that’s a good idea.

I nominate Matt Damon. And just so I don’t have to worry about it… $42 mil.

  20. Joel Burman says:

I’ll round up my nomination with the following actors:

    Blake Lively
    Paul Walker
    Sigourney Weaver

    • Sam says:

      Blake Lively for $2

    • rtm says:

Whoa, Joel, I just realize you’ve got THREE of my all-time fave actors in your cast!! Bale, Butler (a reunion after Reign of Fire) AND Dalton, OMG I’m sooo watching your movie I don’t care what your plot is! Too bad you’d have to ruin it by casting Paul Walker though :(

      • Joel Burman says:

I actually may have to pitch two movies because Bale don’t really fit in my main idea for a pitching film.

You don’t like Paul Walker I find him being quite underrated and this will be a very different part for him.

        • rtm says:

Meh, I just think he’s a pretty boy with zero acting skills. I’d still see the movie though if at least two of those three actors are in it. So are you saying that Bale will NOT be in the same movie as GB and Dalton then?

          • Joel Burman says:

Probably not as I have it figured out now he would an extra or something and that feels like such a waste I have enough talent to scratch together another feature with him as the lead.

            Sorry to disapoint you. =)

  21. Also Nominate Famke Janssen

  22. Nomination also made for Brian Cox

  23. Sam says:

For the record I bid $9 for McAdams

    and $2 for Lively

  24. How many more days will this go on?

Also, i am going to nominate Sean Penn. I need to have a few older actors in reserve just in case

  25. I nominate Sarah michelle gellar

  26. Red says:

    I nominate Vera Farmiga

  27. I nominate Sofia Vergara and Stan Lee

  28. Nick says:

When do we put together our pitches and stuff? Is it the same as last time?

  29. Sam says:

    I nominate Tom Wilkinson

  30. Nicholas says:

How do people have so many cast members? I thought that the limit was 7?

    • For me, the reason i got so many people is because i don’t have the exact details of my movie done yet(I only recently got done with school, which didn’t leave me a lot of free time to work on my draft and i also ended up forgetting the date of the draft), so i wanted some extra choices in case a extra role or two comes up. I have my main roles pretty much planned out, but i in case a extra role came up(or the opportunity for one) i wanted to have some extras

And when i asked about a limit Castor said that as long as the person still had money they could get more people.

  31. Can I still nominate? I had to leave for a while

  32. I nominate John C. Reilly then

  33. Chewitel Ejiofor also

  34. Jonathan K says:

Since it appears that this has concluded, Raise the Stakes would like to trade Tom Hanks for the undrafted Jeff Bridges.

  35. Nicholas says:

Castor after the draft is completely finished is it possible to add actors to your cast?

  36. Novroz says:

Castor…I still couldn’t figure out how this work and I don’t have enough time to see all the bets.

Can I with draw from this Fantasy Draft? I’ll join again when it is easier for my brain and time to digest :)

    Have fun everyone.
Will try to read all your Movie Pitches later.

  37. rtm says:

So what’s next Castor? Can we we just add whomever we want (those who haven’t been drafted obviously) to our cast now?

  38. Well to round out my cast I’ll ask for Vincent Cassel, Bin Won and Elisabeth Moss

  39. I’ll also go ahead and allocate the rest of my budget to location shooting and retaining the services of WETA for the CGI I won’t need, but will think about along the way :P

  40. Castor says:

If you would like to pitch a movie. Please post one by June 6!

  41. Nicholas says:

    I would like to add:
    - michael Sheen
    - Freddy Rodriguez
    - Michael Parks
    - Edgar Ramirez
    - Alfonso Arau
    - Michael Raymond James
    - Sam Rockwell
    - Hailee Steinfeld
    - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
    - Jessica Biel
    - Melinda Clarke
    - Xander Berkeley

If that is possible of course.

  42. Joel Burman says:

Dont take it personal I did the same thing its just a flaw eith the system. I’ll try to do two pitches because I have so many actors.

    • Jonathan K says:

I know we didn’t hold to it, and that’s fine, but the rules stated that there would be 7 rounds. In my mind this meant each person would be limited to only picking six actors plus a director. (Or some combination thereof and trading afterward to wind up with six actors and a director.)

There wouldn’t have been a “flaw with the system” if everyone was limited to that.

That said, I’m not complaining. I enjoyed it and love my cast.

  43. We’re supposed to post our pitch today, right?

  44. Before people go WTF at the length, i wanted to shorten it, but i couldn’t find a way to. I did honestly try to make this one better than my last time tho

  45. Just so you know, Castor, My pitch will be up on my site on Wednesday 6/8.

  46. Nicholas says:

So Castor, what happened to posting the pitches that you liked?

  47. rtm says:

Here’s the link to my pitch: http://flixchatter.wordpress.com/2011/06/06/hollywood-movie-draft-pitch-iii-untitled-sci-fi-by-duncan-jones/

Castor, I’ve replied to your question on the blog. Good one btw, I was rushing to finish it so some of the details weren’t clear.

  48. Joel Burman says:

    Here’s my link: http://www.joelburman.com/2011/06/sisters-in-the-sky/
