First Look at Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”
Three official stills from the set of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit have been released by EW, giving us our first sneak-peak at Martin Freeman in the role of Bilbo Baggins. We also get a look at Ian McKellen as Gandalf and a picture of Jackson directing Freeman, of whom the director said:
”He fits the ears, and he’s got some very nice feet,” Jackson says of his Bilbo. ”I think he’s got the biggest hobbit feet we’ve had so far. They’re a little bit hard to walk in, but he’s managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.”

Aaaaaaaah. Seeing Mckellen back in his wizard garb gives me chills. Starting to look forward to this. Now I’m going to have to buy the extra special blu ray release of the “Rings” trilogy coming out. That’s going to be like 80 bucks…..thanks Castor!
Mark, wait a couple of months and you’ll be able to get them for like $30 on Amazon.
Nooooooo. $80 for a few discs, that’s highway robbery!
He looks a bit like Pippin in that first one.
Indeed, the release of 60 million barrel of crude will have minimum impact on the oil market short term and will most likely drive gas price up a few months down the road when the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has to be refilled.
Hey, it’s…the exact same stuff we saw in Fellowship! Cool!
In seriousness, while this isn’t really “new” beyond Freeman and the background image of the dwarves carousing in Bilbo’s living room, it’s always nice to be reminded that shooting is in progress. I think I might be more excited for this than I was for the Rings series.
Just finished the book so I’m looking forward to the film. Nice to see Gandalf again.
Seeing Ian McKellan as Gandalf has me excited. I just hope it redeems Peter Jackson after the debacle that was “The Lovely Bones”.
Can’t wait for this, the cast is just amazing. I especially want to see my fave ‘obscure’ British actor Richard Armitage as one of the dwarfs!
They really outdid themselves with the casting for this film. It’s almost a “who’s that” of talented British and (some) American actors that people would benefit from becomming more familiar with. Hobbit is a far more mainstream style of storytelling, so it will be interesting to see what Jackson has cooked up. Just hope his additions don’t adversely affect the flow of the original too much – it’s sweeping pace was a real highlight for me as a child.
