Teaser Trailer for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”
Let The Right One In director Tomas Alfredson‘s adaptation of John Le Carre‘s spy novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has a teaser trailer and it’s a stunner. With a stellar cast that includes Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and Mark Strong among many others, this film is definitely one of the year’s most anticipated thriller.
The script by Peter Morgan is set at the height of the Cold War and centers on a retired MI6 agent (Oldman) recalled from retirement to hunt down a Soviet mole in the highest echelon of the British secret service. The film will also star Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciarán Hinds, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Simon McBurney, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke, and Svetlana Khodchenko.
The trailer effectively conveys the 70′s settings (take that X-Men: First Class) and is full of suspense and tension. It also looks like Gary Oldman might finally get his long overdue Oscar nomination. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opens in the UK on September 16th, with a U.S. release coming on November 18th.

Here is the Amazon description of the novel:
John le Carré’s classic novels deftly navigate readers through the intricate shadow worlds of international espionage with unsurpassed skill and knowledge and have earned him — and his hero, British Secret Service agent George Smiley — unprecedented worldwide acclaim.
A modern masterpiece in which le Carré expertly creates a total vision of a secret world, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy begins George Smiley’s chess match of wills and wits with Karla, his Soviet counterpart.
It is now beyond doubt that a mole, implanted decades ago by Moscow Centre, has burrowed his way into the highest echelons of British Intelligence. His treachery has already blown some of its most vital operations and its best networks. It is clear that the double agent is one of its own kind. But which one? George Smiley is assigned to identify him. And once identified, the traitor must be destroyed.

This has instantly jumped into the #2 position on my list of most-anticipated 2011 films (because nothing dethrone Fincher’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”).
Wow… with a cast like this. I’ll definitely see this.
Nomination for Oldman? FINALLY?? PLEASE?!?
Le Carre’s novels always have so many layers that peel away after numerous re-reads. I’m hoping the film can capture the substance of his books, which utilize minimalist writing very well.
This looks awesome. An amazing cast, and I’m excited to see what Alfredson can do with a little more experience under his belt.
Here’s hoping Gary Oldman finally wins that Oscar he’s always deserved, and probably deserves more than most other actors who HAVE won it.
