Excellent New Trailer for “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”

A second trailer for Tomas Alfredson’s highly anticipated thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has been released and it is quite simply outstanding. This second look at the movie promises a suspenseful thrill ride, revealing more of the story and the recreation of the era. Based on John le Carre’s novel, the film is set at the height of the Cold War and centers on a retired MI6 agent (Oldman) recalled from retirement to hunt down a Soviet mole in the highest echelon of the British secret service. The film will also star Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciarán Hinds, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Simon McBurney, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke, and Svetlana Khodchenko.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy will open in the UK on September 16th and in the US on November 18th. It will debut at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Here is the Amazon description of the novel:

John le Carré’s classic novels deftly navigate readers through the intricate shadow worlds of international espionage with unsurpassed skill and knowledge and have earned him — and his hero, British Secret Service agent George Smiley — unprecedented worldwide acclaim.

A modern masterpiece in which le Carré expertly creates a total vision of a secret world, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy begins George Smiley’s chess match of wills and wits with Karla, his Soviet counterpart.

It is now beyond doubt that a mole, implanted decades ago by Moscow Centre, has burrowed his way into the highest echelons of British Intelligence. His treachery has already blown some of its most vital operations and its best networks. It is clear that the double agent is one of its own kind. But which one? George Smiley is assigned to identify him. And once identified, the traitor must be destroyed.

Loved the first trailer even though you couldn’t tell what was going on:P Love this one even more!

I’m actually reading the book now so it helps to have a face to go with a name. Wonder if they’ll make the Karla trilogy if this one does well.

Also, if anyone hasn’t seen Benedict Cumberbatch in the Sherlock miniseries it is an exceptional modern take on Sherlock Holmes. Highly recommended!!

  3. Man, this looks really good. Oldman looks like he’s going for the Oscar. Give it to him!

Yay, another new trailer already. I simply can’t wait to see this one, been waiting for quite a while. That poster is pretty cool, too. Don’t get me started about the Oscar thing, seriously, give Gary Oldman his due!

When I was at the book store the other day, I found a ‘pocket edition’ of this book. I swear, it was like 10cm by 15cm or something…and it was the whole book! Haha, I might get around to reading it one day.

But this movie looks seriously awesome. The cast is freaking awesome, and so is the director. I smell Oscar…

That’s the best trailer I’ve seen in a while.
I think this film is well on it’s way to becoming my most anticipated of the rest of the year, and could easily end up being my favourite of the year.
I do love the books, and the cast is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait!

It’s a more narrative trailer but the effect is still there and good. Happy that Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy have bigger roles than I previously expected. I want to know the girl’s name, this is important.
