Top 10 Movie Roles Lady Gaga Could Have Starred In

Over the past couple years, pop culture has been taken by storm. And the storm’s name is Lady Gaga. The self proclaimed “Mother Monster” has changed the face of music with hits like Poker Face, Bad Romance, Love Game, and most recently The Edge of Glory and her eccentric and unorthodox style of fashion have brought her both ridicule and fame.

Love or hate her, it’s hard to argue that she is one of the most popular artists today. One would think it’s only a matter of time before she dips her toes into the world of film. Whether it be from production companies trying to make a quick buck, or just another layer of Lady Gaga’s artistry, it’s not hard to imagine. And so Nick and I, two professed Gaga-ites, have come up with a list of previous movie roles for which we believe Lady Gaga would have been fit, one way or another. – Red

10. Carole Bradshaw (Meg Ryan), Top Gun

Just forget Meg Ryan’s southern accent, okay, and close your eyes and imagine Lady Gaga in one of her short blonde wigs, wearing a souped-version of a sun dress and saying in that Brooklyn-infused, slightly demure, nasally sexy speaking voice of hers: “Goose, ya big stud. Take me to bed or lose me forever.” Ooooooooh yeah. – Nick

9. Coral Chandler (Lizabeth Scott), Dead Reckoning

In another life, Stefani Germanotta would have noir femme fatale written all over her. But not in the manner of a Veronica Lake or a Lana Turner, no. Husk-voiced and smoky like the last bar in Brooklyn that secretly allows cigarettes, Lizabeth Scott is more Gaga’s speed. And no role would work better than this one opposite Humphrey Bogart as the wheeling, dealing, two timing femme fatale who almost goes down in a blaze of glory, but not quite. In the face of her guile and wile, he’s powerless to resist. After all, isn’t that Gaga’s relationship with the whole world? – Nick

8. Wanda Woodward (Traci Lords), Cry-Baby

Clearly, Her Gaganess is tailor-made for a musical and John Waters’ Baltimore-set homage to teen musicals would not lose a step by simply inserting her for Traci Lords as the blonde, wild, free-spirited member of Johnny Depp’s “Drapes” gang. Wanda’s mantra seems to eerily parallel the sort of thing one hears Gaga shouting from the stage: “You wanna learn about America? In America, we like boys! We like hot boys! Boys with roaming hands and rushing fingers! … I’m just a be-bop baby and I don’t take nothing from no one!” Heck, you could just take the lyrics to Bad Kids, plug ‘em into a 50s doo-wop song and it would fit right into this movie unnoticed. Drapes, Little Monsters, same diff. (Also, did you, uh, see the photo above? Is it possible one of Gaga’s many, many influences is Wanda Woodward?) – Nick

7. Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), Kill Bill

Tarantino has already made noise about implementing Gaga as an assassin in a new film and why not? She easily could have slipped into Hannah’s delicious role as an eyepatch sporting assassin, the epitome of trashy elegance. If you don’t think Gaga could karate kick and swing a samurai sword in heels you’ve obviously never seen her in concert. Come to think of it, couldn’t you also see her releasing a song called “(Do The) Hanzo” and producing a video with Beyonce for Uma? – Nick

6. White Queen (Anne Hathaway), Alice in Wonderland

Normally, I wouldn’t wish this movie upon any of my favorite actors. There are two exceptions here. 1. Lady Gaga isn’t an actress, so she doesn’t technically qualify for that rule. 2. I’m fairly certain that Lady Gaga already has the required costumes and wigs in her possession already, which makes taking this role that much easier. And besides, this role doesn’t exactly require a ton of acting ability. Just stand there and look beautiful. Gaga fits that criteria. – Red

Crazy idea for a post but I love it. She could almost fit in to the Uma Thurman tole in Pulp Fiction too.
It’ll be interesting to see if you guys are right and she starts turning up in movies. If it was good enough for Madonna….

    • Red says:

I thought about including Uma’s role, but I knew that Nick was going to mention Elle Driver, so I figured I would spread the love to other directors. :)

  2. nice list. very interesting list. i can totally see her in each of these roles too. how did you do that?? lol

  3. Joel Burman says:

Great casting guys! Its only a matter of time before she winds up on film and these are some awesome suggestions.

  4. Paolo says:

    a) Margaret Hamilton is untouchable.

    b) Again, I’m gay. If you wanted help on blog posts like this, I’m here lol.

But then I’m not the most imaginative person. She showed her ‘chops’ at SNL. She can start out as the visiting Vegas showgirl that Madonna played in Blue in the Face.

  5. Nick Prigge says:

I love Maude Lebowski being on this list. My favorite part of that whole Timberlake/Gaga SNL show was when she turned up as the bottle of vino. I thought she showed she could handle comedy. “Good LORD, lady, watch your mouth!” Not that I’ve watched that 15 times on DVR or anything…

  6. Tyler says:

Haha, hilarious! Brilliant idea, too! Nick and Red, you guys are geniuses! Hopefully if she does start a film career she’ll make the right choice by doing decent movies instead of crappy Hollywood comedies only concerned with making money and marketing their ideas with Gaga’s image.

  7. MarkusWelby1 says:

She would have been right at home in “Tron Legacy” as well. Not that the film would have been any better for it.

  8. Nostra says:

The Chris Tucker role in Fifth Element was the first thing I thought of when I read the title. Love this idea, should do this more with other artists as well…

  9. Max says:

This is the weirdest and coolest idea for a list evar. Can I chip in if we don another one?

  10. amy says:

I don’t think it’s far-fetched to have Lady Gaga in the role of the Wicked Witch xD. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of her future albums takes a detour in Oz.

    • Nick Prigge says:

I’d be okay with that. So long as she gets to writing her own personal “Thunderoad” too. Because mark my words, blogosphere, she has her own personal “Thunderoad” in her.

  11. I had to take a double take as I read the title to this post…and once I confirmed that I had indeed read Lady Gaga’s name along with the words “movie roles” I had to take a peek. I’d be afraid of a movie with her in it…LOL.

a fun post. Original. Like the idea. Thanks for the interesting, albeit unexpected, laugh!

  12. rtm says:

A wild idea for a list, but love the originality. Yeah I could see Gaga as Elle Driver and White Queen, and she can probably supply her own wardrobe, ahah.

  13. Custard says:

HAHA I love this post. I am all for completely off the wall lists…you should see mine!

GAGA love her or hate her certainly has come a long way!!!

But who would play GAGA in a story of her life? Who could do crazy like her?

    • Nick Prigge says:

Gaga has said she’d want Marisa Tomei to play her in a film and I think Marisa is 1.) Enough of a chameleon and 2.) Got just enough of the crazy in her to pull it off.

  14. Greg says:

How bout in David Bowie’s role in “the Man Who Fell to Earth?”

    • Nick Prigge says:

I haven’t seen that movie, but I’m pretty sure Lady Gaga could take on any role David Bowie played. In fact, she could probably be to “Labyrinth” as Peter Sellers was to “Dr. Strangelove.”

  15. Dylan says:

This is such a phenomenal idea for a list. So fucking out there…how fitting. I gotta say, the Meg Ryan in Top Gun selection was my favorite. It might not be the most popular, but I think that’s why I love it. Who the fuck would even think of that role as one of the first for Gaga…and yet it’s so right.

  16. JBT says:

Great post and great list of films. I’d love to see Gaga in movies. She’s tried her hand at acting in some of her videos already. I can see her playing a gangster’s girl in a mob flick along the lines of Sharon Stone in Casino.

    • Nick Prigge says:

Oh yeah. Totally. She could be a gangster’s moll. In fact, building off of that, now that I think about it, she could probably slip into a few old Jean Harlow roles too. I need to call her and discuss these things.

  17. Lisa says:

ummmmm Someone could absolutely do a remake of “Sid and Nancy”, and she would be perfect for it! I think it would blow away the original.
