Two News Pictures From “The Hunger Games”

Lionsgate has released two new pictures from The Hunger Games, via ComingSoon. One of the picture consist of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) looking cool with a bow and arrow while the other pic has her schoolmate Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) gazing at someone on his right, most likely Katniss herself in a romantic subplot.

Adapted from Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novels, The Hunger Games revolves around a 16-yr old girl living in a dystopian future. She volunteers to replace her little sister in a fight-to-the-death contest, known as the Hunger Games, when the latter is chosen to compete in the nationally-televised games. The cast also includes Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci.

Filming is underway with Gary Ross directing and Steven Soderbergh helming the second unit. Lionsgate will bring the film to theaters on March 23, 2012. Check out the pictures below.

Synopsis:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I’m still not sure if this is worth watching on the big screen as I never read the books, but I’ll wait for the reviews. I like the cast, and Stanley Tucci is probably gonna steal some scenes like he always does :)

I can’t believe they have set a date for the sequel!! Hollywood is mad sometimes

I don’t get the plan behind this campaign. Release a whole bunch of stills of the actors doing…nothing? There’s absolutely zero going on in the preview images that have been put out there for consumption; I can’t imagine who thought that any of them might actually build excitement for the film.
