David Oyelowo in Talks to Join Tom Cruise in “One Shot”
It’s been a memorable summer for David Oyelowo whose star is rising after he appeared in two of the biggest hits of the summer, playing the greedy Steven Jacobs in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Preacher Green in The Help. Variety now got word that Oyelowo is in final talks to star alongside Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie’s adaptation of Lee Child’s crime novel One Shot.
The story revolves around ex-Army cop Jack Reacher (Cruise) investigating the killing of five people, murdered by a mysterious sniper for seemingly no reason. But when the suspect is finally nabbed, he remains silent and only states “Get Jack Reacher for me.” Nothing is what it seems and Reacher soon finds himself in the middle of a complex cover-up conspiracy. Rosamund Pike will be playing the role of Helen Rodin who teams up with Reacher to investigate the shooting while Oyelowo would take on the seemingly minor role of a “veteran homicide detective investigating the mall sniping.”
Christopher McQuarrie will direct his own screenplay this fall in Pittsburgh for a scheduled release on February 8, 2013.
What do you think of this casting bit? Any interest in “One Shot”?

Man, Tom Cruise is still on a roll. I’ve only seen him in ‘Apes’ and I thought he was all right, though I don’t like his character.
I’m pretty certain he wasn’t supposed to be likable
Well done David!
