Houdini’s Magic Ticket: What Movies Would You Visit?
If you had a magic ticket that could transport you into any movies you wished, what would those be? Dan Stephens from Top 10 Films was inspired by the concept used in Arnold Schwartznegger’s Last Action Hero and came up with an interesting and fun blogathon around this question. Because the possibilities are basically endless, there is a set of seven questions to keep the discussion somewhat focused. Feel free to join in on the fun in the comments!
What animated feature would you love to walk around in?
I have to go with the world of Spirited Away, easily one of the richest and most fascinating fictional world created in the world of film. Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece defies easy description but if you haven’t seen it, you must give it chance because you won’t regret it. The atmosphere of the movie is quite eerie, surprisingly so for a movie with a pre-teen protagonist and I would absolutely love to delve in this fascinating world full of strange creatures and places.
If you were a cop who would you want as your partner?
“Give me the goddamn page!” I want Harry Tasker (True Lies) to watch my back. Not only is he lethal but he is absolutely hilarious! Plus, I want to be there when he makes Bill Paxton wet his pants for trying to shag his wife.
What character would you most like to be sat next to on a plane?
I don’t know why but I’m starting to dislike flying more and more as I grow older so having someone fun and enjoyable to talk to during a flight certainly is something that would make the travel more enjoyable. I could say I would take the seat of Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy) in Red Eye so he doesn’t get to creep out the charming Rachel McAdams but my good friend Terrence has already taken the seat. No, instead I will sit next to Tyler Durden. My love for Fight Club has dissipated a bit over the years but this guy would be one cool cat to have a conversation with on a plane.
What character would you most want to enjoy a passionate romance with?
Plenty of suitable choices here such Allie in The Notebook, Kate Winslet in Titanic or even Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca but I will go for something a little less obvious this time. What about Francine (Natalie Portman) in Tom Tykwer’s 7-minute short in Paris Je T’Aime? In a few minutes, Tykwer expertly crafts a wonderful love story that most full-feature length movies don’t even come close to surpass. And Natalie Portman is all sort of adorable in this short.
What movie gadget would you love to try out (or steal)?
So many gadgets to choose from! I thought about Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak for a moment but then a revelation came to me. I want… Adam Sandler’s universal remote control from Click (without the adverse complications naturally). In the movie, Adam Sandler plays workaholic architect Michael Newman, who finds a truly universal remote, one that allows him to control his own universe. No more wasting time with boring or annoying moments, just pause, fast-forward or rewind as you please!
What film’s plot would you alter and how would you do it?
One recurring dream I’ve had ever since childhood has been to find myself on a battlefield centuries ago but with modern weapons. More often than not, there would be a few people with me and we would be facing hundreds or thousands of foes charging at us with swords, bows and arrows, and spears while we would do our best to gun them down before they got too close. Hence, a film plot I would alter in that same manner would be 300. Instead of the 300 Spartans, just think a squad of Marines having to face dozens of thousands of Persians coming at them relentlessly. Awesome!
What one film would you most want to be transported into, simply to be a part of that world?
Probably the toughest question of the bunch because it’s so hard to strip down all the possibilities to one single film. For me, I think it would be the world of Harry Potter. Wouldn’t it be nice to be eleven year-old again, to have no responsibilities whatsoever and to discover a magical world full of wonder and intrigue. Oh to be a kid again!
Now it’s your turn. Join us and answers those questions in the comments!

Glad you’re taking part, Castor. Natalie Portman is quite lovely in Paris Je t’aime, that’s quite unexpected though as I thought you’d go w/ one of Marion Cotillard’s or Rachel McAdam’s characters, ahah.
As for that 300 pic, I thought you were gonna change the ending so that Leonidas didn’t die, but that’d be rewriting history
Ahah well I don’t want to be that predictable, even though I did mention some obvious choices
This is awesome! I think I’ll do this in my blog. Yaay! Though one of our answers is definitely the same…guess.
Good answers btw
Thanks Nikhat, looking forward to yours although I’m sure Harry Potter will be mentioned many times.
Very fun answers, Castor. I just might give this one a whirl. Thanks.
Thanks le0pard! Definitely join in on the fun
Okay, you’ve convinced me, Castor. Here is my holiday take on the meme. Many thanks.

great idea…..Porky’s is already coming to mind.
Ahah Porky… Hopefully, we see this blogathon on G.P.S
That remote would be kind of neat. I don’t deny that! I also like the mash-up for 300!
Thanks! Yea it seems like it’s a common dream though. I heard a week or two ago that Warner Bros. was going to make a movie similar to that concept.
Ok, not an answer to the topic yet, but just had to say that I have had the same dream where I would have to defend myself against hordes of barbarians charging at me. Hilarious.
I will ponder on some of those questions and get back at you.
Definitely do
Damn it! I completely forgot about this blogathon! Such a good idea too. I may have to join this party late.
I have to say, I’m not sure about having Tyler Durden as your airplane seatmate. Aren’t we then meant to assume, Castor, that you are, in fact, merely (spoiler alert!!!) talking to yourself? They may have to make an emergency landing.
Please join the party Nick. I’m definitely interested in some of your answers
And touche good sir… touche.
I LOVE your answers Castor! haha. Sorry I’m guilty for taking your seat on the plane!
That 7min short with Natalie Portman was an amazing find! Good vid.
Awesome dream incorporated with 300!!
Nice work, man!

Ahaha that’s cool, you got there first and I got me something almost just as good
Great stuff Castor – thanks for supporting this blogathon idea. I hope you had fun writing this.
I like the Schwarzenegger connection with Harry Tasker – good choice.
Hopefully sitting next to Tyler Durden won’t conclude with the plane being torn apart and crashing!
…very good choice for the romance question – Natalie Portman crossed my mind, but choosing the right role was a tough one – I think you’ve nailed it!
I think you noticed in my additional post that my wife also chose the remote control from Click!
Nice plot changing answer – very creative.
And a lovely answer to the final question – when I said I wanted to enter the world’s of Stand By Me and The Goonies, I imagined that I would return to childhood to do it.
Great idea for a blogathon, indeed it was fun to join in
Thanks for dropping by!
Great list of answers Castor. It is great to see you taking part in this fun Blogathon.
Mine is VERY VERY late and won’t be up until Tomorrow.
I love the Tyler Durden answer, he would be great to have a chat to for sure!
No worries, I will be there to check it out
I was a day late as well.
Great answers Castor, to be a kid in the Harry Potter world would be the most fun. And to bring in some Marines to help the Spartans to victory is an awesome idea.
Hi Alyson, yes I don’t beat anything quite beats the enchanting world of HP if you want to go back to childhood
And maybe King Leonidas would have survived with a little help from a few fearless Marines lol
Ooh I thought you might pick Harry Potter!
I agree with Joel, a 300/Marines mash up sounds good! You could go one step further and have the Marines not only the Persians but wizards with wands, Jedis with lightsabers, medieval knights…!
Yea definitely, we can have a bunch of sequels. Marines in the medieval age defending a big castle, Marines going against dinosaurs, Marines fighting off barbarian hordes in Roman times. Genius!!
Man, the idea of going back in time with modern weapons is awesome – but I think JCVD did something similar in Timecop, didn’t he?
Awesome choices mate, and I admit, I’d have a passionate romance with Natalie Portman any day! I haven’t heard of Paris Je T’Aime, so it looks like I’ll have to scour the internet to find it….
Well you can check out that short in the post above. The movie is made up of 18 shorts all with different stories, director, actors etc…
Yeah, work computer blocked the Tube Of You…. good stuff man, thanks!
Nice to see that you also took part with some great choices. Nice to see another pick for one of the Ghibli worlds, they really are very interesting.
I like your idea for 300, but I think the movie would probably be a lot shorter as a result!
This is a fun post. I’m with you on wanting to be transported into Spirited Away, and yes, I’d love to hang out at Hogwarts. Not sure what my answers would be to most of the others. Though I’d take Marge Gunderson as my police partner.
