Sign Up for The Hollywood Fantasy League!
This upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, the new and improved Hollywood Fantasy League (HFL) will be inaugurated. Combining the fun of assembling your dream cast of actors with the added dimension of following their career paths over the course of a year, the HFL will be a fun and competitive way to have a vested interest in what is happening in Hollywood day in and day out.
If you have previously participated in any of our first three Hollywood Fantasy Draft, then you already know that you will be drafting a cast of actors as well as a director. The added twist is that there will be a competitive purpose beyond simply assembling your favorite set of thespians. Was your actor selected for a starring role in the next Christopher Nolan mega-blockbuster? Did your director receive a Golden Globe for his latest film? Did one of your actresses get thrown in jail with a DWI? You will score and/or lose points for each of these events and many more.
How To Play
For those of you who are new to this, playing in the HFL is as easy and simple as it gets. In essence, each participant gets to draft (e.g. select) an actor/director when it is their turn. If you would like to get a simple example of a fantasy draft, visit the first edition of our Hollywood Fantasy Draft.
The team with the highest point total at the end of the year wins. League scoring will be applied via a comprehensive set of rules that will seek to determine how “successful” an actor/director is throughout the season.
The Rules
- The season will run from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012
- The draft is tentatively set for 7 rounds
- You must pick 1 director and 6 actors
- You must select 3 actors and 3 actresses
- Selections are made in the comments
- Time-limit between picks will be one hour
- If you miss your pick, you will be skipped but you can make your pick anytime once you return
- Trading picks or selections is allowed
- The first round will start on Saturday, November 26th at 2PM CT

I’m in. This sounds awesome.
Great to have you Dan!
I’m of course in as usual!
Awesome, thanks!
Bummer, I will be away for Thanksgiving weekend but you know I’d love to participate. Is it ok if my part will be a bit late? Unless I could somehow pick the cast ahead of time. I’ll make sure not to draft trouble makers like Lindsay Lohan, ahah. Yeah, as if!
Yes, of course! Just send me a list of who you want and I will draft them for you
Awesome, you are a pal Castor. I wouldn’t miss this for the world, man!
Great scoring system by the way! I’d be surprised if this isn’t bumping up the amount of pitches.
I really don’t care about the scoring,I just want my short story turns into a movie pitch
This sounds really good. And especially since I don’t have to worry abt writing a pitch (I have exams in a few wks) then it’ll be done in one weekend! I’m In
Good to have you back!
Sure why not?
Glad to have you join us Rich
I’m not sure if i will participate this time around. Mainly because i always seem to end up putting too much into my pitches, and i need to write a script for a short film i want to do…so its a maybe for me right now
The pitch is optional as it’s always been.
I think I might skip the full pitch and just go with the draft and perhaps a concept overview. I spent way too much time in the 3 previous pitches I’ve done
I’ve decided to join the draft. Now i just have to think of actors i like that will be doing something next year
“PR Catastrophe: Commissioner’s discretion”
Castor = Roger Goodell
I’m in, of course.
Sweet
Castor, I would love to be involved with this if possible.
Thanks so much in advance
Hold on what time is 2pm CT in the UK?
7PM UK time I believe
Sign me up then Mr Troy
Please sign my up! Are there prizes?
I will see what I can do
It sounds oh, so simple, but I have a feeling that it’s going to bloody hard to choose the right people! Count me in…if the draft/picks are taking place over a few hours (i.e. not instantly or within an hour or two) as I usually work 12 till 12 on Saturday’s depending on how busy my place of work is!
Awesome! Good to have some AM staff join the fray
To all the people who aren’t writing pitches. Why don’t you you do more realistic pitches that are shorter and more to the point or even better an audio pitch? Thats how most pitches for production are made anyhow..
I’ve been wanting to do something like this for ages. I’m in.
Thanks for joining us Joey!
So im not sure if i will be heading back to school that day or not could i send you a list in if thats oka.
Yes, you can send me a list in order of preference and I will draft your people
Sign me up. How about a bonus if one of my actors loses a cell pone with naked photos on it.
Good to have you with us Brendan
Cool, Cap. Thanks for signing me up. I presume by then my life will be back to normal.
No problem Dan, hope to see you blogging again real soon.
Count me in. Can’t wait!
You are signed up sir!
you know I’m in Mr. Nick Cage man
Awesome! Always good to have you in the draft Andrew
Would you be sending an email or post a reminder a couple of weeks before this start, Cas? I just hope I have time to get my cast put together. Thanks man!
How are we gong to handle actor-directors? Like Ben Affleck. He is directing Argo, and starring in it as well (along with the Malick film). Would I be able to select him as one of my actors and still get director points?
Good question if choosing him to act in your film he should only get points for acting gigs but if he doubles you should get director points too. At least thats how I see it.
Sign me up!
Awesome!
Sign me up, Cap!!
Done! Good to have you in the draft
glad to be here!! can’t wait!
*waving my hand* I am in!!! got the story already
we are doing the old way with no bargain right? just want to make sure. I am too stupid to do the last fantasy draft.
Yes, the old way
Glad to have you Novia!!
Cas…can I edit your banner????
I only want to change the actors with the actors I had chosen in my 2 previous fantasy draft
Yes go ahead!
Thank you
I will schedule my introductory post before 26
fyi, working in the major electronics retailer that I do, the black friday weekend will be exasperatingly full of work. I will, however, do my best to be on time with my picks.
I’ll give it the old college try!
woot woot!
SWEET this sounds fun! I am in!
Great to have you Matt!
Hey Castor. Can you offer a few more details on “the pitch” since I’m new? I don’t totally understand how everything works on that part of it.
Yea, some folks like to write a movie pitch for the cast they assemble. You can see example here:
http://www.anomalousmaterial.com/movies/category/pitch-your-movie/
Cool. Thanks for the info. One last question. We can set up our pitch after making our picks, I’d presume?
Yes absolutely.
Do re-releases of older movies count differently, points-wise?
No although we will count only the box office made on that particular release, not the entire run.
I’d like to join the contest as well Castor if you still have room.
i’m in
@MAX, JOHN: EXCELLENT!
Best idea ever. I WANT IN.
