New Trailer for “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”
Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and there is quite a bit of new footage to be seen, including a few glimpses of Rachel McAdams reprising her role as Irene Adler (in a cameo), and some shots of Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty. This action-packed trailer doesn’t do a very good job of laying out what the story is about but offers some impressive sights of the London director Guy Ritchie has recreated. And the action set-pieces look to be quite spectacular although let’s hope there is more to the movie than those.
Overall, I’m not all that impressed by this. If you enjoyed the first one, you will probably get more of the same here: Popcorn entertainment that will take it easy on the audience’s grey matter. I’m just not convinced that Guy Ritchie is the right director for this franchise. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry, Kelly Reilly and Rachel McAdams. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th.

Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law returns as his formidable colleague, Dr. Watson, in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder–a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty. Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target. Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him. The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction–all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

Yeah, I’m not really all that interested either. I have seen the first trailer enough times during previews that I am getting tired of the damn thing already.
Yea it’s been quite a while between the first trailer and this one. It was getting a bit annoying watching it for the 15th time before a movie showing.
Yeah, I’ve seen it quite a bit too. I was excited to see the first one and then I actually feel asleep in the theater! Needless to say, I’m not rushing for this second one.
Ahah it wasn’t THAT boring!
Some of the slow-mo action scene look badass. Not sure how I feel about the movie though…
Yes Castor, I totally agree with you about Guy Ritchie. He is another of those directors (Zack Snyder comes to mind) who can craft stunning visuals and zippy editing but doesn’t know how to tell a story properly.
I kinda enjoyed the first one, actually, in an ‘I’ll never watch it again’ sort of way. Downey’s always watchable, and Ritchie does know how to zip a story along. Sequels, though, unless they’re Bond ones, have never been my cup of tea.
Yea the first one was entertaining enough, in a popcorn fun kind of way. I was expecting a better, higher brand of enigma with the central mystery but I guess that’s Hollywood, can’t expect too much…
So the bromance is on again! I enjoyed seeing RDJ and Jude’s bantering each other in the first one, so yeah I probably will see this on the big screen.
Yea I will probably end up seeing this one because the first one was entertaining enough. Not excited about it as I was for the first one though.
