Tom Hardy Fights With Chris Pine over Reese Witherspoon in “This Means War”

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for action comedy This Means War on Apple. Directed by McG, the movie pits fellow CIA operative Chris Pine and Tom Hardy against each other after they both fall for the same woman (Reese Witherspoon). The story is probably about as bare as the previous sentence and one has to wonder how two young, promising actor like Hardy and Pine and got themselves involved in such a silly flick. And let’s not even talk about Reese Witherspoon, who has spent all the good will from her 2005 Oscar on turgid rom-coms.

The trailer focuses nearly entirely on the action the movie has to offer. It’s tough to see why the main characters would go to such length over a woman who is simultaneously dating two men. Overall though, this looks like some decent mindless fun.

This Means War hits theaters on February 17, 2012. Will you check it out at the multiplex? Let us know in the comments!

The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.

The premise is soooo unoriginal. Reese seems to always do the same type of thing again and again even though she’s obviously capable to do more (i.e. Walk the Line).

See these are the times of internal conflict between the film-lover and the girl in me. Pah girl FTW! This looks awesome…Chris Pine is so pretty :P

  3. NO!!!! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, HELL TO THA NO!!!! And for those who have seen “Bronson”, we all that Tom Hardy would beat up Chris Pine in a minute.

Plus, what the fuck is Chelsea Handler doing in that movie?

So much for that Warrior nomination…

Captain Kirk vs. Bane… Looks kinda fun if you ask me

  7. ya’ know? I actually think this look fun! It’s funny seeing Tom Hardy in a hilarious role that he may not have to take so seriously. Reese is the most annoying part of this entire trailer. I think Pine and Hardy acting opposite each other in a fun movie like this is pretty neat.

I don’t expect it to be an award-winner by no means, but mindless entertainment! Who woulda thought to see Tom Hardy in a role like this! I say it will be fun.

    …my 2-cents.

Yea it probably have been more fun without Reese. I can understand the negative reaction to the movie but it doesn’t really look atrocious, just average at best. Sometimes, that’s enough to pass 90 minutes :)

Is this movie’s tag line really ‘Spy vs. Spy’ or am I drinking too much? Although they should make THAT movie instead.

But seeing my track record recently, I’m probably going to end up getting invited to watch this movie.

    Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm…

This doesn’t seem like Tom Hardy’s kind of movie. I’ll probably end up liking it – but that’s only if there is a lot of suit porn in it.

  10. Andrew says:

The poster for this suggests that Pine and Hardy have been hired to take out Witherspoon’s rack.

It was only a matter of time before Hardy stepped up and took a pure paycheck gig– he deserves it after all– but man, did it have to be something like this? The worst part about that absolutely abominable trailer is that the action movie within it would have been frigging amazing.

  11. Lindsay says:

Well this is the weirdest news I’ve read all day. I have never even heard of this movie til now. The trailer is kind of terrible as far as showcasing any comedy the film (probably doesn’t) have to offer. The action looks fine but it can’t out weigh the lame premise. “I feel weird dating two guys at once” UGHHHHH. That line pissed me off.

    • Castor says:

There was news a few months earlier about Pine and Hardy’s casting. However, they obviously had to ask a lot of people as a bunch of actors passed on it including Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington.

  12. Two guys going to war over a woman? Hopefully they’ll include a Helen of Troy reference, but somehow I doubt it.

  13. I’ll let Tom Hardy off, it was inevitable after all his decent roles recently that one would require him to play a one-dimensional character in an unoriginal romantic-comedy starring a female lead whose career rides upon the success of the many other terrible and cliched romantic comedies that she stars in. But Chris Pine…shame on you!
