First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire on Set of ‘The Great Gatsby’
Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is officially happening and we have photographic proof! Stuck in development hell for over three years, the film is currently shooting in Sidney, Australia for a December 25th, 2012 and Celebuzz (via Collider) has a bunch of excellent set pictures of the stars looking great in their costumes.
Leonardo DiCaprio (Jay Gatsby) was looking handsome wearing a white suit on Friday while the lovely Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan) was rocking a violet dress and Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway) a green sweater.
If you are unfamiliar with the classic novel, here is a short synopsis that should enlighten you:
“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

See these are great candid shots, but I am not going to be convinced till I see a trailer or a teaser or something. Carey Mulligan just is not Daisy Buchanan for me, despite how adorable she looks. But, Leo has won me over with this look, and I was always supporting Tobey Maguire so I love him.

Definitely waiting for the trailer before we can get an idea of what this is going to look like.

Whoever did the costumes for this movie should get an Oscar because for some odd reason, Leonardo di Caprio looks slimming in white.
I’ve kind of become a Tobey fan after seeing him in Brothers. With that said, i am not sure it will be enough to get me to see this
Tobey was pretty good in Brothers but seeing in those picture gave me a chuckle. Tobey always looks like Tobey no matter how fancy the costume.
Still not sure why this has to be in 3D, but I live Baz Luhrmann anyway. Leo looks freaking sexy in white. And that dress that Carey is wearing is gorgeous. I think I’m looking forward to the costumes more than anything else.
Who doesn’t want to see a period drama in 3D? It makes total sense!

She looks nothing like I pictured her in the book
I don’t get why this is going to be a 3D movie. This is as far from an action film as it gets. From the looks of it, this could be promising though.
Leo looks dapper in that suit and I love that purple dress on Mulligan. W/ Baz directing, I’ll definitely see this one. Might even try to read the book before this comes out.
The casting is good, but I don’t see any reason for this movie to be in 3D. Let’s hope they drop that feature before the movie is released.
3-D Gatsby?
As for my expectations of this film are concerned, I dunno. It could be good or not. I general there has never been a filmed adaptation of this book that I think has truly wowed me.
