Watch: ‘Safe House’ Trailer with Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds
Universal has just released the first trailer for Daniel Espinosa’s CIA thriller Safe House. The spec script by David Guggenheim, who happens to be a senior editor at US Weekly of all things, earned a lot of wild raves, making the 2010 Black List.
Denzel Washington stars as a rogue ex-CIA agent who must team up with a rookie intelligence agent (Ryan Reynolds) when the titular safe house he is held captive in comes under attack. The excellent supporting cast also includes Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Vera Farmiga and Robert Patrick.
Overall, the movie looks quite promising. I don’t care much for Ryan Reynolds but one can always rely on Washington to carry a movie like this with his sheer charisma as well as his brand of menacing charm he does so well. The premise itself reminds me of 13 Blocks but from the preview, this looks a lot better.

Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.
For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town. A “housekeeper” who aspires to be a full-fledged agent, the loyal company man has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When the first and only occupant he’s had proves to be the most dangerous man he’s ever met, Weston readies for duty.
Tobin Frost has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that the CIA’s known, the ex-intelligence officer has given up assets and sold military intel to anyone with cash since he turned. From trading secrets to North Korea to aiding splinter cells, the damage he’s done to the U.S. is immeasurable. And he’s now back on the reservation with a secret.
As soon as Frost is brought in for debriefing, mercenaries come and tear apart Weston’s safe house. Barely escaping, the unlikely partners must discover if their attackers have been sent by terrorists or someone on the inside who will kill anyone standing in the way. Now it’s up to Weston to figure out who he can trust before they’re both eliminated from the game.

I hope this one is good…Ryan kind of needs it after Green lantern
The movie kind of reminds me of Training Day. And I LOVED Training Day so yea I hope this is good.
not that it looks bad or anything but at moments i did have a chuckle watching. i think it is a reflex action to all of the action.
Some of the lines don’t sound right and neither does the whole exposition by Vera Farmiga “He was the most briliant CIA operatives we had, until he went rogue!” lol

the only shining moment in this trailer i notice is lauren ambrose. she really needs to get more shine, in better movies.

I saw this today, attched to Tower Heist. I was impressed… Denzel looks like he’s going for the gusto here.
And here I was convinced that this was a Tony Scott film! It looks good though. Car chases, action and maybe some redemption for Ryan Reynolds. Here’s hoping!
