First Image from ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ with Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton

I bet you never imagined classic fairy tale characters such as Hansel and Gretel to be leather-clad killers. The first image of Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters can be seen in the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. Directed by Tommy Wirkola, the film sees Hansel and Gretel all grown up as full-time killers and looking for some payback time against the witches that terrorized them during their childhood.

Gemma Arterton told EW that the movie “is also very, very dark, and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing. It’s kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really.” She also says that the film will have some comedy and that the brother and sister will have a close relationship, explaining that Gretel “is much more in tune with her spiritual side,” while Hansel “is a typical action hero, cheeky, funny, a womanizer.”

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are producing so this could be something to keep an eye on when it opens on March 2, 2012. For now, expect a trailer to hit the web next week and check out the pic below:

The only way I can see this succeeding is if it’s a comedy, and a damn meta one at that!

Are you kidding me? This looks awful- it’s official, Hollywood is crazy! Don’t even get me started on John Carter, another stupid movie!

    Hoooh boi.

Why couldn’t I have seen this thing BEFORE taking Jeremy Renner in the draft?

  8. rtm says:

Meh, not a fan of either leads so yeah, not even worth a rental this one.

Looks like i’m in the minority here, but personally looking forward to this. I like these kinds of films and the cast get the thumbs up from me.

Fairy tales seem to be having some kind of renaissance, on TV with Once Upon a Time and Grimm, and film with not 1, but 2 versions of Snow White and this!
