First Look at Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’
A couple official pictures from Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby have surfaced online and they look promising. Check out the pictures of stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Joel Edgerton looking the parts below!
Set in 1922, The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick soon lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Mulligan), and her philandering, douchebag husband, Tom Buchanan (Edgerton). Nick is soon drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits.
Filming is currently underway in Australia for a scheduled release date of December 25th, 2012. Check out the images, courtesy of Sassisam (via The Film Stage):

The visual stylings of Gatsby definitely should look great in Luhrmann’s hands. I liked the novel but have been less than enthusiastic with the adaptations to date. My hope is that this one will be good. I think the three main leads are wise selections.
Yea visually, I’m sure it’s going to look the part. The biggest enigma is Luhrmann himself
Lookin’ good! I like Baz’s style so I’m looking forward to this one. It’s been a while since I’ve said this but Leo looks pretty handsome in that first photo.
Ahaha you have betrayed GB and GP by saying that!
Well no way in heck could Leo ever come close to Gregory’s hotness… neither does GB, ahah. But it’s the fangirl in me talkin’
This looks great! I’m so excited about this one. I’m loving the costumes and setting. Can’t wait to see more goodies released!
A trailer next hopefully!
I really like it and can’t wait to see it, but is it just me when I say Joel Edgerton looks kinda weird? The mustache is not very fitting, neither is the haircut! But maybe it’s just a bad shot! Mister DiCaprio, dashing as usual, he looks younger!
Yea he looks weird in that second picture but I guess his character is unlikable so he could be going for that look too.
This one better make some serious bank. I’m counting on you Tobey
The question is: Will he turn emo and start dancing in the streets?
Hopefully. I need to get some points from this one
*Hopefully not
Yes Leo looking like Leo! Like how he was meant to look all this while.
I think we can all agree that Baz will make everything look gorgeous. This in 3D still makes no sense whatsoever.
I second your emotion. The look of the film should be dynamite…..unless the 3D messes it up.
Really, why is this movie in 3D? Where will it end?! “Watch Washington cross the Delaware and take Trenton….in 3D!!!”
Leo certainly seems like he fits in the period, as does Mulligan, and the styling and set design looks spot-on. What’s really going to matter is whether or not Luhrmann can actually tell the story with the necessary aplomb and life. Aesthetics he should be able to nail, it’s really the storytelling that I’m concerned with.
Indeed Andrew, the aesthetics is a nice first step but it’s the easiest one. The director is definitely the biggest question mark.
Great cast… I’m in love with Carey Mulligan
I really enjoyed this book. I hope Baz Luhrmann does it justice!
I’ve not read the novel, nor know much about Gatsby, though I’m a fan of Luhrman, so will be looking forward to this. Moreso with the cast.
Not a big fan of the director but I’m always interested to see what he’s come up with in terms of style.
I am very much looking forward to this. And these images kinda prove I am right to
I can’t wait for this movie, although I suspect I might skip the 3D unless the reviews tell me it’s spectacular.
Is it just me who’s not at all excited about seeing Mulligan’s melodramatic eyelash batting on screen again. Can someone explain to me why she’s considered a good actress again?
Have you seen An Education, Never Let Me Go? I thought she was really good in those movies.
