Watch: Excellent Tribute to the Year in Movies ‘The 2011 Portfolio’

As we are approaching the end of the year, the first of many video tribute to the year in movies has been released by “Alex” (via Awards Daily). I love these montages because they always remind me of the wonder of cinema and how lucky we are to have the time and resources to engage in such leisure. Alex spent over a month to edit together this excellent tribute which he describes as:

“The 2011 slate of releases, from The Adjustment Bureau to Zookeeper.” While there’s been years with more drama or more action, he mentions in the YouTube comments about this year: “This is where a cathartic and overarching statement would succinctly sum up the year’s displays of creativity, passion, ingenuity, and bravado, but the only thing that comes to mind is: weird shit. Lots of weird shit… [But] what’s not to like? Something for everyone.”

You will find clips from 166 films, with 6 different songs playing throughout the montage including “Immigrant Song”. Full list of the songs below and full list of the clips on here. It’s been a great year in movies hasn’t it?

  1. A snippet of “Hedwig’s Theme” by John Williams
  2. “Immigrant Song” by Karen O and Trent Reznor
  3. “Down Boy” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  4. “The Masterplan” by Oasis
  5. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Ingrid Michaelson
  6. “Grounds for Divorce” by Elbow

Personally, it lives and dies with the ones that oyguvaltshappy makes.

  7. Nikhat says:

I saw this yesterday and then I got angry at myself for not having seen many of the films, and then I got angrier still for watching crap like I Am Number Four.
2011 was not that bad overall though.

That’s awesome! I’m personally really looking forward to seeing if Genrocks will do a Filmography 2011, because Filmography 2010 has to be one of the awesomest montages I’ve ever seen!

The worst thing about these montages, though, is the fact that I haven’t seen half of these films and that makes me feel bad :/
