Watch: Excellent Tribute to the Year in Movies ‘The 2011 Portfolio’
As we are approaching the end of the year, the first of many video tribute to the year in movies has been released by “Alex” (via Awards Daily). I love these montages because they always remind me of the wonder of cinema and how lucky we are to have the time and resources to engage in such leisure. Alex spent over a month to edit together this excellent tribute which he describes as:
“The 2011 slate of releases, from The Adjustment Bureau to Zookeeper.” While there’s been years with more drama or more action, he mentions in the YouTube comments about this year: “This is where a cathartic and overarching statement would succinctly sum up the year’s displays of creativity, passion, ingenuity, and bravado, but the only thing that comes to mind is: weird shit. Lots of weird shit… [But] what’s not to like? Something for everyone.”
You will find clips from 166 films, with 6 different songs playing throughout the montage including “Immigrant Song”. Full list of the songs below and full list of the clips on here. It’s been a great year in movies hasn’t it?
- A snippet of “Hedwig’s Theme” by John Williams
- “Immigrant Song” by Karen O and Trent Reznor
- “Down Boy” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
- “The Masterplan” by Oasis
- “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Ingrid Michaelson
- “Grounds for Divorce” by Elbow

Immigrant song cover goes with just about anything.
Indeed!
I like! Thanks for sharing.
Trust it to that super sappy Can’t help falling in love song to sap every ounce of energy in the room
Yea it’s incredibly sappy. Works for the montage though
That was great.
Personally, it lives and dies with the ones that oyguvaltshappy makes.
He’s responsible for this gem! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3xMwsveZys
Great vid Sebastian! Looking forward to his 2011 version.
Great find Castor! he did a fantastic job! Anyone else notice the subtleties he used like the clip for “The Help” right when the song lyrics said “help”?
nice.
No I didn’t notice lol
This was just about perfect! Great find dude.
Thanks Dan. Glad you liked it.
I saw this yesterday and then I got angry at myself for not having seen many of the films, and then I got angrier still for watching crap like I Am Number Four.
2011 was not that bad overall though.
I Am Number Four was a bad choice as Ron Burgundy would say lol
That’s awesome! I’m personally really looking forward to seeing if Genrocks will do a Filmography 2011, because Filmography 2010 has to be one of the awesomest montages I’ve ever seen!
The worst thing about these montages, though, is the fact that I haven’t seen half of these films and that makes me feel bad :/
Haven’t seen it although I know they did something for Harry Potter earlier this year which was pretty nice.
pretty cool montage. even ‘not so good’ films look decent
Yea that’s the beauty of these montage. They make you want to watch/rewatch all these movies, even the bad ones
This is so awesome. Thanks for sharing, Castor. Happy holidays!
