Watch: First Trailer for Horror Flick “The Cabin in the Woods”
Lionsgate has released a trailer for producer Joss Whedon and director Drew Goddard’s enigmatic horror flick The Cabin in the Woods. The story centers around a group of five friends going on a quiet cabin retreat, only to scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom what might possibly be going on just as time quickly runs out.
Much mystery has surrounded the project, which was co-written by Whedon and Goddard (Cloverfield), and the movie poster released a few days ago promised a mind-bending puzzle that would have to be solved. I’m not quite sure what to make of the trailer. It starts out as your generic slasher movie but then, some elements of science fiction are thrown in (a forcefield?). It definitely seems like there is a lot more to it than your usual horror movie so color me intrigued. In any case, check it out for yourself below (via Yahoo! Movies)
The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchinson, Fran Kanz, Jesse Williams, Bradley Whitford, and Richard Jenkins. The Cabin in the Woods opens April 13, 2012.

Didn’t this movie supposed to come out like two or three years ago? Somehow I thought it’s already out on DVD. The trailer looks interesting, it could turn to be cool but that dude who talks in that raspy voice might be a distraction. He sounds like a wimpy version of Batman, ha ha.
I hear it was left to collect dust due to MGM’s financial collapse but Lionsgate picked it up a few months ago.
This looks awesome with a lot more sci-fi than I anticipated. The trailer reveals a little too much but they do need to market the movie.
Yea if they don’t reveal enough, then it looks like your average group of young people lost in the woods and hunted down by something – horror flick.
Like a mixture of Evil Dead and Truman Show. Looks interesting, but not as interesting as I was first expecting to be truly honest.
Yea I’m not sure what to make it. It’s a bit of a messy trailer.
I think it’s a bit messy too. Just think it feels like it gives a little too much away. Though, i’m very open to eating my words here!
Yep, I want to see this one.
This looks fucking awesome. This was already on my radar because i’m a bit of a Amy Acker fan, but now i am even more excited for it
Which one is Amy Acker lol
I’m going to guess Resident Evil (the first movie) + Battle Royale = this.
Sounds like a good mix!
I was utterly confused when I saw this trailer last night. It looks good and I think I’m excited but it’s got a sci-fi spin on it I didn’t see coming.
I’m a long time fan of Joss and Drew Goddard was one of my favourite writers in them good ol’ Buffy/Angel days. Loved Cloverfield so hope this turns out good.
Glad it’s finally getting released, though it’s strange that one of the reasons the release took so long was because of the 3D-ising of the film, though the trailer makes no mention of it. I for one, will be seeing it in boring 2D!
Yea I loved Cloverfield too so I hope it’s as immersive and fun! It was held back because the movie was made by MGM which went bankrupt a couple years ago.
I loved how the release of the film suddenly got a bit more of a chance after Joss was announced as director of The Avengers and then Thor was a big hit!
I went into this knowing nothing about the film, and then BAM… I love the idea and it looks cool!!
Just saying
Stop pretending like you know what this is about!
Two quibbles. One, if Whedon wants this film to subvert people’s expectations of “kids go to the woods, kids get dead” horror flicks, he shouldn’t have allowed a trailer to be cut that contains so much information about how Cabin In the Woods goes off of those rails. He should have played it just like your average entry in the sub-genre and blown the lid off of expectations in the theater. Minor concern.
My greater worry is if a three year stint on a shelf will do this film any favors. Will its meta referential sensibilities feel outdated in light of how long it’s languished in film hell?
That said, consider me really excited for this. There’s a ton of weird going on in here, and while I appreciate the Evil Dead nods I don’t think they’re going to dominate the film. Looks really good.
True Andrew, it would have made for maximum shock to the audience. But then, everyone would assume it’s just your normal boring horror flick and no one would go and check it out on opening weekend
I was only aware of a brief premise of this film from Godard, but after viewing the trailer I find myself feeling suitably intrigued and wanting just that a little bit more. I think with the right team behind this, it could be one of the sleeper hits of next year (provided they really do pull the premise off correctly).
