Watch: Peter Jackson’s 5th Video Blog for ‘The Hobbit’
As if a terrific trailer for The Hobbit wasn’t enough of a Christmas gift, Director Peter Jackson has just released his fifth video blog chronicling the production of the two-part adaptation on his Facebook page. In this installment, Jackson gives fans a terrific look into the logistics of location shooting and the challenges of moving a giant production unit all over New Zealand.
Check out the latest production video below. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14th, 2012, while The Hobbit: There and Back Again will arrive a year later on December 13, 2013.
“The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever … Gollum.
Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Always a treat to get a glimpse of what’s happening on the set of this production. And it looks like Peter Jackson has regained all the weight he shed before this movie LOL

Christmas treat indeed. Could you imagine being in charge of the logistics on this project? They are moving around sets that are practically as big as the town I grew up in, only with more people.

I can’t believe it has been 11 years ago. It still feels like last year. Elijah looks a bit skinny now. I’d love to visit Hobbiton one day,just like PJ said, a nice place to retire.
