Justin Timberlake Joins Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams in ‘Trouble with the Curve’

It seems quite apparent now that Justin Timberlake is taking his acting career very seriously. The former N-Sync lead singer turned a lot of heads with his winning performance in David Fincher’s The Social Network and he quickly followed that up with a lead role alongside Mila Kunis in last summer’s romantic comedy Friends with Benefits.

Variety now reports that Timberlake is in talks to join the Clint Eastwood baseball drama Trouble with the Curve. The film centers on an aging baseball scout (Eastwood) losing his eyesight and traveling to Atlanta with his daughter (Amy Adams) to check out a hot prospect. Timberlake would take on the role of Johnny Flanagan, a former pitcher who is now a New York Yankees scout and becomes a love interest for Adams’ character.

Once production for this movie wraps up, Timberlake will co-star in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis alongside Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. Trouble with the Curve would be Robert Lorenz first feature directorial effort. He has been Eastwood’s longtime producing partner and was able to convince the Unforgiven star to give it one more shot in front of the camera. The film will open on September 28th.

I was very reluctant to give Justin Timberlake his due for his acting up until recently but it looks like he really wants to be an actor. It will be interesting to see whether he can expand his range beyond what he has been doing so far.

  2. I’ve become a bit of a Justin fan(Acting-wise) so i may keep track of this one now

I think JT is always pretty good value on screen, so this will be something to keep my eyes out for

I still don’t get it. LOL

Actually, I’m getting Friends with Benefits today so maybe I will “get it” afterwards? Nope, I doubt it.

      • amy says:

i thought he was pretty bad in Benefits… well, he was worse in In Time. I still don’t think Timberlake is a good drama actor, but it seems I’m pretty alone on it.

I totally agree with you. I’ve watched Friends with Benefits and Timberlake is awful in it, he tries too hard to be funny. His “acting” it’s cringe-inducing.

  5. I really should have joined a boyband when I was younger. Although with my luck I’d end up being “that fifth guy.”

For some reason I always used to bet annoyed by Tinberlake, but lately I’ve pleasantly surprised by his work.

  7. Nick Prigge says:

Wait, wait, wait, this would be the second movie featuring Timberlake as a baseball player. And in the other one he seemed as much a baseball player as I seem an NBA player. He seems more like a polo player. Or croquet. Or a competitive dancer.

After seeing The Social Network I do think he’s got on screen charm, but good actor? Hmmm, he still have to prove his chops but he certainly is going in the right direction. I think I’m w/ Dave E. in regards to how I feel about him.
