Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence & Jessica Chastain On The Cover of Vanity Fair’s 2012 Hollywood Issue
Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue is about to hit newsstands and we have a look at the much anticipated 3-panel cover. Actresses Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain grace the March cover, dressed in evocative Old Hollywood style gowns.
The 2012 Hollywood Issue was made by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino, and features Vanity Fair’s rising Hollywood actresses of 2012. Two of them recently received Oscar nominations: Mara for her role as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the omnipresent Chastain for her performance in The Help.
In the magazine video Q&A, Chastain talks about meeting Meryl Streep for the first time. “I asked my friends, ‘Is that Meryl Streep?’ And as I said it she turned around and started walking towards me,” describes Chastain. “That’s kind of when everything kind of got foggy and I stopped really functioning.”
Meanwhile, Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, Albert Nobbs) and Lawrence (The Hunger Games) are making their second consecutive Hollywood issue appearance. Other actresses gracing the inside panels of the magazine cover include Adepero Oduye of Pariah, Elizabeth Olsen of Martha Marcy May Marlene, Shailene Woodley of The Descendants, Paula Patton of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Felicity Jones of Like Crazy, Brit Marling of Another Earth, and Lily Collins of Abduction (???).

It’s all a bit meat market, this, don’t you think?
So how much is this one?
Buy one, get one free!
Not to mention the fact that the only black lady is there for a movie about how white people stopped racism.
Adepero Oduye wasn’t in the Help, and Chastain is obviously not black, so i’m not sure who you’re referring too.
Paula Patton was in MI4 and Adepero Oduye was in Pariah. I wouldn’t really consider Viola Davis or Octavia Spencer “young”
The main problem is that you think “young Hollywood” and very few African American, Latino or Asian actresses come to mind, if any.
that’s because there’s little to no Hollywood blockbusters starring people of color
Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose and Kimberly Elise come to mind. How are they deciding who is young?
I like it
I have just about every year (less a few) so I will be purchasing.
i actually kinda love this spread, especially with adepero, brit marling and paula patton
I like the cover but i still think it’s a shame Chastain was nominated for The Help and not the Tree of Life
Yep! Same with Brad Pitt getting a nod for Moneyball instead of TOL.
Yeah the cover gives me goosebumps. Such goddesses. I officially have a huge girl crush on Rooney Mara so I love her the best, but I sort of want the cover to be a poster and see what the film would’ve been like.
Mara looks scary ahah
No she doesn’t. She looks like the courtesan who is sleeping with the husbands of all the others. She is in power.
I’m definitely picking this up! They all look so gorgeous in these pastel gowns
I would totally like to sleep with all of these ladies… except for Lily Collins unless she trims those awful eyebrows.
They have on such heavy makeup that I can’t hardly tell some of them apart. Oh wait, maybe that’s because Hollywood likes their ingenues to be interchangeable.
That’s what I was gonna say. Still, it’s a pretty sleek photo shoot.
Now that is one lovely cover. I’m going to have to have a closer look nice time I’m out for groceries.
I wish I could get this in NZ :’(
This is awesome! I didn’t even recognize some of them at first. Love the idea of “young Hollywood.” Perhaps there is some hope left in terms of GOOD, young actresses up and coming.
Rooney Mara looks like she’s still in character as Lisbeth Salander. I know that’s what she’s most recognised for at the moment, but the makeup/hair people should have done more with her!
I’m sure Collins is on there as a result of her being the lead in Tarsem’s upcoming “Mirror, Mirror”, and NOT for “Abduction.” At least that is what I hope. Otherwise it will be be difficult to retain even a little bit of faith in humanity.
