The Hollywood Fantasy League: 2012 Season
After the awesome fantasy draft back in November, the Hollywood Fantasy League is now underway and this is where you will find everything pertaining to the 2012 season, including the leaderboard, discussion threads and transaction list. If you would like to see the results of the draft, feel free to head over to the 7-round draft thread.
While the commissioner will do his best to update the scoreboard accurately and comprehensively, each participant is ultimately responsible for keeping track of each event that could affect his/her score. Hence, you should announce in the comments such things as casting news, awards and other news regarding your actors/director (see Rules).
Discussion
- Who has the best cast?
- What actors are going to break out big in 2012?
- Suggestions for the league?
- Smack talk with the rest of the league!

Awesome Castor! This reminds me that I need to get ahold of the film I’ll be remaking in my pitch!
Finally!!
But I still wonder when is the pitching time?
Let’s set a date since it makes it easier for everyone to have a deadline…
March 1st is the deadline for movie pitches!
so…anyone can pitch anytime before march?
yes
Cool! I better remind myself of who I’ve drafted, ahah. I kind of know my score will be very low to non existent as my cast aren’t big during this year’s award season.
me too Ruth, I picked my cast based on the story.
Cas…I will give you my pitch on early February. I have to make it otherwise I have no point
I’m waiting for the box office points to kick in on mine
Me too!!
I should get some from War Horse and Tinker Soldier Spy for my Benedict.
When will the box-office point kicks in, Cas?
Thnx for the deadline Castor, time to start spitballing ideas for my story !
I am glad I saw this. I almost forgot about my movie pitch.
I would like to make a few changes to my cast
-Replace Hoult with Zac Efron due to jack the Giant Killer getting delayed.
-Add Morgan Freeman and have him count for points instead of Jolie.
I assume you checked that both Zac Efron and Morgan Freeman weren’t taken in the draft because I’m not going to look lol
I checked. Also, if it isn’t pushing it could i also add Aidan turner(He will be in the Hobbit) and have him as a point pick instead of skarsgaard?
Do I get points for Idris Elba winning GG? I assume no because it is a TV category.
No, I skipped anything that’s not film related or directly attributed to the actor/director in question (for example, awards for ensemble cast are not counted)
[showing my competitive streak] How about the London Film Critics award for Best British Actor (Michael Fassbander). Kind of an odd category.
I’m aware of all of those but I’m skipping all the non-major non-US awards.
So…I guess Benedict nomination in British independent award won’t count
Hey guys and gals, I knew the scoring was going to be a challenge to keep track of but this is going to be hard for me to remember/know about every single event. Make sure to monitor your own cast for news that I might have forgotten.
hehe I was just wondering how are you going to keep up with that
Wow Thanks for this info Castor!!
i am pretty chuffed with my cat, they have done me a good job so far… I hope more comes up for them.
Thanks
Awesome! I’m glad to have a few points and am pulling for Woody Allen to get an Oscar nomination tomorrow. Now I just need to start thinking up my pitch…
That must be one of the safest bets of this year. I would be incredible surprised if he is NOT nominated. Hell I think he might have a chance of winning it too I think (haven’t seen Midnight myself but the amount of praise is insane).
I thought he had a good chance, but the awards that usually predict the Best Director nomination haven’t been great to Woody. He does seem to be a shoo-in for a screenplay Oscar at least.
I guess I should be grateful to just be on the scoreboard. I think most of the actors I’ve chosen won’t really make their presence felt until the second half of the year, so that’s when I predict things will turn in my favor.
Heh. My scoreboard is going to have a bagel on it until March at the least. LOL
So you can sneak up at the end to win it!
I should have Critics Choice points for Jessica Chastain, Ryan Gosling and Martin Scorcese.
I should also have Indie Spirit points for Chastain and Gosling.
Thanks for catching that Squasher! Corrected
Oh and I just remembered, BAFTA nods for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Judi Dench. I’m in it to win!
Here is a way to keep track just in case anyone is interested: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/movies/redcarpet/rc_scorecard.html
Ignore this is the wrong link: I think Entertainment Weekly has one.
I just noticed that you give points for SAG too. Points for Jessica Chastain please. Sorry if I’m being annoying.
I only noticed awards so far…how bout the box office point?
Scarlet and Clara have gotten box office points already. I am assuming for most there 2012 movies will be released later this year
There has only been a handful of movies released this year so far. The biggest of them being The Devil Inside with mostly unknown actors.
Thanks for this Castor! woohoo! I am excited to see this unfold!
If you wish, you can rename my part to The Focused Filmographer or something.
But my film will still be produced by Red Web Productions!
Will do in the next update!
Obviously in some films there may be a gray area as to lead/supporting. I’m assuming this is at the commissioner’s discretion.
I had a question about Kate Beckinsale in Contraband. She is listed on the official site 2nd only to Mark Wahlberg. Would she be considered a lead? or is there a general guideline you like to use that way I could kinda get an idea at what to expect for some of my actors?
It’s not a big deal at this point, and perhaps the question was already answered and I missed it, but I’m sure it will become even more important as time goes on. Lead vs. Supporting.
I haven’t seen Contraband but from all appearance, it’s a one-hander, meaning Mark Wahlberg is the sole lead and has significantly more screen time than anyone else on the cast.
that makes sense. No problemo. Just curious about future films. Take The Avengers for example. Is it screen time that determines lead vs supporting?
How do the points for “Casting/Directing Gigs” work? Do you get points for that actor being in a movie + points for box office/rotten tomatoes?? Also, for the casting/directing news, does it relate to films that will be released this year or in the future?
Casting and directing jobs that the actors/directors get in 2012. If the film is released this year, then yea they would get the points for that as well but that’s fairly unheard of that movies hits theater that quickly after shooting.
Does this include those casting jobs already announced but not getting released until a later year?
Anything announced in 2012.
Just to be clear, are the box office points for a movies entire theatrical run or just opening week?
it should be the entire theatrical run…imo
entire
I’m not sure if this fits under the casting gigs for 2012 or not(It was listed as a project under development on imdb for before this year started)but i figured it was worth a shot

http://www.firstshowing.net/2012/bradley-cooper-and-jennifer-lawrence-reunite-for-serena-drama/ A casting gig for Lawrence
Ummm Cas do either of those count count for points?
yes they will
http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/morgan-freeman-joins-tom-cruise-in-post-apocalyptic-oblivion-for-universal/ a casting gig for Freeman
@Castor – Do I get points for a DGA win?
Absolutely. I will update the scoreboard when I get a chance Max.
I finished my pitch
Do you want to publish it like previous pitch?
it is currently on scheduled post
Does RDJ get any PR points for his baby being born?
No it’s not being publicized at all
Does Fassbender her points for Irish Film and TV Awards?
Oh and does Elba get points for confirmation regarding Thor 2?
No points for confirmation since the news was many months ago
No just major US awards and BAFTA
Scores updated through February 12. Let me know if I missed something, I’m sure I did ahah
Very Good Girls for Dakota(and Olsen). Also Ruth mentioned a casting gig for Hall in her last five for the fifth post.

Hey Castor, just showing you confirmed castings on IMDB for my cast/director!
Just mentioning that Liam Neeson is in need of points for The Grey.
Thanks.
Thanks, I forgot about The Grey!
Hey Castor, I get points for Fassy’s casting in the Ridley Scott film and that other film you mentioned last week, correct?
Yes Iba!
Hey Castor, where do we submit our pitches?
You can post it on your blog and leave a link here. You can also send it to me via email!
My pitch. I added 2 cast members, but neither of them were picked by anyone here and i’m not counting them for points, so i hope its all right http://dirtywithclass.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/fantasy-pitch-3/
Thanks Julian. Looking forward to delving into it when I get some free time this weekend!
Well here is my pitch: http://www.lordofthefilms.net/2012/02/movie-pitch-for-torch.html
Are we still working with that deadline for the pitches? Mine isn’t ready yet.
That’s ok Squasher. Just post it/send it when it’s ready.
Directing gig for Nicolas Winding Refn and acting gig for Ryan Gosling (not mine, but same article):

Zac Efron is the lead in the Lorax. Just making sure i get the points for it when it opens tomorrow
Forgot lead vs supporting doesn’t count for animation movies.Anyways Efron is in the voice cast
Will Efron get the points for the Lorax later?
Here’s my movie pitch: http://filmactually.blogspot.com/p/movie-pitch-shot-and-ghost.html
I hope it doesn’t bore you to death.
Everyone seems to put the link to their pitch here…I might as well do it too

Castor…you gave 300 for DelToro directing beauty and the beast but you haven’t added it to my score.

New acting gig for bryan cranston
Are we supposed to be updating you with info here?
I’m thinking Castor is going to do another big update sometime soon…Perhaps right before the summer blockbuster season starts
cool beans ..
Does new acting gig count? If so, then my Benedict should get one as he is going to play in Star trek
The scoreboard is in serious need of an update. Are the Oscar results even in yet?
On a side note, I’m kicking myself for not drafting someone from The Hunger Games.
Scoreboard is updated as of today. I also added 1,000 pts for your pitch.
Castor, are we going to get a update anytime soon?
Updating…
Not to be demanding, but my pitch and The Lorax still do count right?
With that said, i’m happy to have jumped from near bottom place to 8th
Ah yes, sorry, I forgot about your pitch
WOW. I completely forgot to make my movie pitch. I hope it isn’t too late.
Whenever it’s ready
Woohoo. Glad for the update. Thanks for all the hard work here Castor.
Just to mention. Liam Neeson still shows 0 for The Grey, and I was able to complete and post my pitch. http://thefocusedfilmographer.com/2012/03/14/my-hollywood-fantasy-draft-pitch-3/
Thanks again!
Doesn’t RDJ also get points for Sherlock Holmes 2?
Wasn’t that a 2011 release? I don’t think it counts.
You’re right. My bad
Looks like a casting gig for Skarsgard. Sounds like a lead role, but not a %100 sure yet http://collider.com/hidden-alexander-skarsgard/157243/
Hey Castor sorry to nitpick, but based on my calculations, I should have 5500.
Thanks Squasher!
Did you ever catch my movie pitch?
Ah thanks, I knew I forgot to score someone’s pitch!
Looks like a casting gig for Lawrence http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/23679/jennifer-lawrence-enters-a-glass-castle Also i am assuming Catching fire and the X-men first class sequel don’t count due to those being assumed?
Castor…does Bafta for TV nomination can be considered in the point? http://t.co/Vk07jyrI Benedict and Martin both got nominated in this year’s BAFTA
Hey Castor could you add points for Bryan Cranston in Red Tails and Vera Farmiga in Safe House?
