The Wachowskis Want Natalie Portman for ‘Jupiter Ascending’
While Lana and Andy Wachowskis are currently busy developing Cloud Atlas alongside Tom Tykwer, they are not wasting time lining up their next project, a science-fiction film titled Jupiter Ascending. According to 24 Frames, the directing duo have reached out to Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman for the lead role.
Production is tentatively set to start this fall, and as customary with the Wachowskis at the helm, there is no plot detail at this point. It may be telling however that they are willing to hold up production if Portman decides she wants to spend more time with her newborn son, Aleph. Is this going to be a female-centric sci-fi movie, like the upcoming Sandra Bullock-starring Gravity?
In any case, Portman is said to be “seriously weighing taking the part” although she has a looming commitment with Thor 2 which is likely to start shooting sometime in the fall as well. The 30-year old actress was the hottest actress in Hollywood just a year ago but as you may remember, she was 5-month pregnant when she received an Oscar for her work in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and essentially stopped working since. It will be interesting to see what kind of roles she will take on, now that she is gearing up to make a comeback. Could this be one of them?

This would be a cool role for her and I hope she doesn’t start doing shit like I thought she was about to with The Other Woman and No Strings Attached.
The Oscar curse is inevitable!
Don’t say she’s “gearing up to make a comeback”! She’s only 30, done a plethora of films and has just taken a break to have a child. It’s not like she’s been away from our screens for years.
What do you mean?
We won’t see her in a movie until 2013 at the earliest, that’s a pretty long stretch for an actor to be away from the spotlight.
Well, ok from Thor last year to 2013 is a couple of years, but I wouldn’t call it having to make a comeback. She’s a respected and very good actress. I usually reserve the word “comeback” for actors who’ve been away for a while and before that didn’t make their film choices all that wisely.
