Five New Images from ‘Dredd’ Starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby
One of the more enigmatic upcoming film of 2012 is Pete Travis’ Dredd, a new movie from the Judge Dredd universe starring Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby. Lionsgate has released five new images from the film and those give us a good look at the characters’ crabby mood and funny-looking attires.
Much like the original 1995 film, the story will be set in a violent, futuristic city named Mega City One where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop (Urban) teams with a trainee (Thirlby) to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.
Check out the pics below. The film stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby (Juno) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). Dredd opens in 3D September 21st. [via JDMN Updates @ Twitter]
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

I love Olivia Thirlby but I’m not digging that blonde look.
Yea kind of weird to see her as a blonde.
I can’t say that I’m interested in this one, but what’s the deal with the face he’s making in both of those pics? He definitely doesn’t look happy.
He’s Judge Dredd, harbinger of death and destruction!! Yea I don’t know… If that’s all the acting Urban does in the movie, this could be terrible.
When this was first announced I was hopeful but, for some reason, I just can’t take it seriously. Maybe it’s because he looks like an extra from Spaceballs.
Yea he looks ridiculous. Anything but badass at this point.
I’m still dismayed that they cover up Karl’s gorgeous face… ah well I’ll wait to see a movie where I can see actually see his facial expression.
I doubt he has any expression in this movie so he might as well wear that ugly helmet!
This is it. I’m commandeering the role of Olivia Thirlby’s agent before it’s too late.
