Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz to Star in Musical ‘One Hit Wonders’

After conquering the small screen with Glee, creator Ryan Murphy is setting his sight on Hollywood. Deadline reports that heavy-hitters Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Beyonce are set to star in the musical comedy One Hit Wonders.

The story revolves around three singers (Witherspoon, Paltrow, and Diaz) who each had a highly successful song that topped the charts all the way back in the 1990s before watching their careers quickly go downhill from there. The three decide to team up to form a super-group. This is almost too similar to these actresses’ career path!

Mike Fleming also reports that The Lonely Island’s Adam Samberg will also appear in the movie and will write some of the music for the film. Murphy will direct and co-write the script with his Glee co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.

Given the premise and actresses involved, One Hit Wonders could certainly be something to keep an eye on. However, Murphy also wrote and directed Running with Scissors and Eat Pray Love, two films that weren’t received too kindly. It would almost be too funny if this movie fails to succeed given the actresses’ recent career path. (ok… Forgive me for the snarky comment, couldn’t help it!)

What do you think?

Haha, I think your snarky comment was well put. Totally agree! I know Reese Witherspoon can sing well and Gwyneth Paltrow is OK (give her autotune and she’ll be fine). But I didn’t know Cameron Diaz could sing!

Could be interesting with Andy Samberg doing some writing/acting. Love him.

I will never understand anything related to Cameron Diaz. Seriously, how is she still getting major movies role for so many years, I don’t really understand her appeal at all.

Hmm not sure this will be up my alley. Unfortunately I have issues with Ryan Murphy products (save first couple of seasons of Nip/Tuck).

I liked Glee at first but it quickly fell off.

I only saw like an episode and a half of Glee but I never liked it because everything about it felt so artificial. Hope it’s not the case with this movie.

  3. I ain’t going to see it. Ryan Murphy sucks! Running with Scissors is without a doubt, one of the worst movies I had ever seen.

  4. NONE of this is a draw for me. god…

Hmmm interesting cast. I know Reese and Gwyneth can sing, but Cameron?? Anyway, I’m not terrible enthused to see this though.

Where did i put those PINS so I can stick them into my eyes??? ZOMG

  7. Thanks for reporting on this one. I hadn’t heard about it. At the moment I can’t decide whether I’d prefer it to be a more dramatic piece with some comedy thrown in, or a full on musical version of the First Wives Club.
