Must Watch: First Trailer for ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Twentieth Century Fox has finally released the first trailer for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (via Time), the film that sets our 16th President in a world full of bloodsuckers. One of the biggest question surrounding the movie was whether the silly premise would be played for laughs or totally straight and it looks like it’s going to be the latter.

While this choice of tone could be disappointing for some, the teaser is fairly well put together — using the intro of Johnny Cash’s “When The Man Comes Around” is never a bad choice — and this looks like it could be quite a bit of silly fun.

Benjamin Walker stars as Honest Abe with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell completing the cast. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Gets a big “meh” from me. The trailer didn’t really show us anything, except that the movie might have Abe sporting a magic axe that lets him do improbable things. It does look a lot like Wanted, though.

  2. Green Machine says:

Ahahahaa I can’t believe this is real. The movie being flat out serious is an absolutely terrible idea.

  3. I think it looks like it has potential.

  4. Kristin says:

Planning to read the book before seeing the film. The trailer didn’t give much away, but I’m excited regardless. The premise is hilarious.

  5. Fitz says:

Not enough Alan Tudyk for my liking

  6. Nikhat says:

The tree chopping has me interested. That is smart. I like it.

  7. Where was Mary Elizabeth Winstead? She’s the reason I wanted to see this somewhat OK trailer.

  8. yeah, this trailer kinda rocks, i have to say

  9. Dave Enkosky says:

The trailer didn’t do much for me. I’m not really a fan of the Zack Snyder style of film-making. Nevertheless, I’m glad people are finally realizing that honest Abe was our most badass president.

  10. Scott says:

ah go on then. It will make a good bit of popcorn fodder in the summer months!

  11. Andrew says:

Playing it straight works fine for me. I think my problem is that the very conceit is unoriginal and hackish in the worst way possible. The trailer actually looks kinda interesting, but I don’t know how much I can push past the utterly soulless and lazy identity of the story here.

I’m not sold yet, but I’ll keep an eye out for future trailers/clips. There is still potential, I think.

  13. I’m not likely to see this one. Maybe I’ll wait for the reboot/prequel of George Washington: Goblin Catcher.

  14. Pete says:

Not convinced. Wish it looked more ‘silly’, less serious.
