Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou to Co-Star in Crime Thriller ‘Zulu’
Director Jerome Salle isn’t exactly a household name as of yet but he was the filmmaker behind Anthony Zimmer, the thriller that inspired a certain The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Salle is now gearing up to shoot his next project, an adaptation of Caryl Férey’s novel Zulu and Screen Daily reports that Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) will star in the film.
Scribe Julien Rappenau (Largo Winch and The Burma Conspiracy) will adapt the book which follows two Cape Town police officers who investigate the murder of a 18 year-old girl, the daughter of one of the players from the championship-winning Springboks rugby team. Things get darker when the two cops uncover a disturbing link to the country’s apartheid past. Filming is set to begin in Cape Town this July.
It’s an interesting premise and I’m excited for Djimon Hounsou, a talented actor who has had to appear in some terrible movies since Blood Diamond in 2006. He was attached to play the Angel of Death in Legendary Pictures’ Lost Paradise but the project was canceled due to budget concerns. Orlando Bloom hasn’t fared any better in recent years but at least, he will get to reprise his as Legolas in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

I like Djimon but Orlando, not so much. He’s really only watchable as Legolas so far.
