Across The Atlantic: Eleventh Edition, 30th March 2012

I don’t know about the rest of the world, but the next thing for UK/European Cinema’s will be the release of The Avengers the 26th of April. Well, I really should be calling it Avengers Assemble as that is its official title here in the UK. Apparently, they were worried about Brits confusing the superheros with a 1960s spy-fi television series which consisted on the man characters wearing bowler hats and being, well, typically British all of the time. I can definitely see the potential confusion there…

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll love the fact that the Harry Potter Studio tour opens to the public tomorrow. Based in Hertfordshire the tour includes various sets including Dumbledore’s office and the Great Hall. [BBC]

The Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano has claimed that the Italian equivalent of the Academy Awards, the David di Donatello Awards, are riddled with corruption. [Guardian]

Animation firms have said that the UK Government’s tax breaks from the recent Budget, could give creative industries a boost of nearly £700m a year. [Independent]

The big winners at the Empire Awards, which took place last Sunday, were Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two. Tinker Tailor took home the Best British Film and the Best Actor gong for Gary Oldman. While Harry Potter, surprisingly, took away the Best Film and Best Director (right) gongs. [Empire]
