Bruce Willis to Star in ‘Five Against The Bullet’; Gerard Butler Takes Over Eric Bana in ‘Brilliant’

Columbia Pictures has officially announced today that venerable action star Bruce Willis is going to star in Five Against the Bullet, an homage of sort to films like The Magnificent Seven. The film will center on a Mexican politician who, after his father is murdered by a drug cartel, hires the five best bodyguards in the world to protect him through a dangerous election.

Willis will naturally take on the role of one of the bodyguards in the pic and it will be interesting to see who is cast for the other four characters. Well, make it six as producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently said that “there are five really great characters, so that’s what’s really fun. There’s actually a sixth character that is sort of a cameo that’s really interesting too. I think we’re going to be able to put together a very eclectic international cast.”

Willis will next star A Good Day to Die Hard, which recently made the news as Jai Courtney was cast to play John McClane’s son. He will next be seen in theater in the thriller Cold Light of Day alongside Henry Cavill and Sigourney Weaver.

Additionally, we have word that Eric Bana has dropped off Robert Luketic’s diamond heist thriller Brilliant and Variety reports that Gerard Butler will take over the lead role. This isn’t the first time Butler and Luketic will work together. As you may already know, the two already worked together on the widely beloved romantic comedy The Ugly Truth [/sarcasm]

The film will revolve around a petty criminal who somehow ends up joining a group of talented thieves in a brazen diamond heist. Not exactly the most exciting or original premise out there so Bana dropping out isn’t exactly surprising. Producers are reportedly looking to cast a female lead and we have word that Katherine Heigl is at the top of their wish list and it could be telling who is cast for the role.

Butler will next be seen in the surf drama Of Men and Mavericks and the romantic comedy Playing the Field. He will also star in Antoine Fuqua’s submarine thriller Hunter Killer.

Thanks Julian for tweeting me about Gerry’s role, but truthfully I’m not thrilled at all about that director. Ugh, why can’t GB pick a better director, I mean he’s just recently worked w/ Curtis Hanson, so I was hoping he’d pick someone like Michael Mann next or of course, my dream would be to see him in a Christopher Nolan or Ridley Scott movie!
