First Look at Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert in ‘Les Miserables’
Last week, we gave you a first look at Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper‘s musical adaptation of Les Miserables. The film is currently shooting in London, England and The Daily Telegraph now has the first image of Russell Crowe as the ruthless Inspector Javert.
Wearing an official Bicorne hat and seen on top of a black horse, Crowe was rather grim-faced which is perfect for the role of the relentless policeman whose sole mission is to send Valjean back to prison. I’m really excited to see what Crowe can bring to the character. Check out the picture below and let us know what you think!
Les Miserables opens December 14th.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Crowe is looking awesome! I don’t doubt he’ll be a great fit for the Inspector, but I still question his vocal skills
Yea I haven’t heard his vocal talents so it will certainly be pretty funny when he breaks into a song for the first time ahahah
Haha, no kidding. Perhaps they’ll dub him like they did Minnie Driver in Phantom of the Opera. OK, they probably won’t. But I’m not saying that isn’t a bad idea.
I was thinking the same thing. Jarvert has some challenging song in Les Mis. Stars is one of my favorite songs in the show. I have never heard Russell Crowe sing, although I believe he has some kind of a rock band.
Yea, I hear Javert has some big musical numbers. Crowe is awesome though so he will probably be just fine.
I think Russell Crowe is able to do the job though I have heard him sing. He’s OK but the music his band does fucking suck.

I’m sorry, this is completely off topic but it’s impossible for me to see Russell Crowe without thinking about the “Russell Crowe: Fighting Around the World” episode of South Park.

Well seems to live up to its title, he looks so darn forlorn and miserable. Just kidding, I’m actually looking forward to this film.
Well, if you’ve read the book, Javert is a pretty miserable character if you think about it. Dedicating his life to the law, chasing Jean Valjean all his life only for the latter to turn everything he believes in on his head at the end.
