First Look at Shia LaBeouf & Tom Hardy In ‘Lawless’ (a.k.a. ‘The Wettest County’)
Entertainment Weekly has the first official picture from John Hillcoat’s upcoming prohibition crime drama Lawless. If you didn’t know, the movie was originally known as The Wettest County but the title was changed to Lawless this past week when Terrence Malick benevolently agreed to give away the title of his own upcoming movie.
Set in depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, the film will center on three brothers who are part of a bootlegging gang which is threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits. The film will star the likes of Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska.
Check out the picture below (via The Playlist), which features LaBeouf and Hardy in full 1920′s costumes. Lawless is set for an August 31st release.

The Wettest Country is still a better title.
Yea most definitely but as always, have to go Barney-style to make it as mass appealing as possible.
I have to say that I am quietly interested in this one because it sounds like it could be something really good, regardless that it stars Shia… The rest of the cast more than makes up for it and I am a big fan of the fact it’s based on a true story. I did like the original title but ‘Lawless’ definitely makes it more marketable.
Thanks for the good read.
Yea it’s a great cast regardless of Shia, who I personally think should be fine enough as long as he is not solely in the spotlight for an entire movie.
Am i the only one who doesn’t think Shia is a bad actor?
LOL! Well I think he has potential as shown in ‘Disturbia’ but it seems that every role since has does nothing that play an annoying and childish character so perhaps this one might be different…hopefully
Hi , Castor and company:
Interesting write up!
Big fan of Tom Hardy.
Shia LaBeouf, not so much.
Rest of the cast looks rock solid.
Film sounds a little like ‘The Moonshine War’ from 1970. With Patrick McGoohan, Richard Widmark and Alan Alda in a decent Elmore Leonard B-Movie tarnished by really bad southern accents.
PS: I have guest reviews at Ruth’s and FRC. All are invited to drop by and opine.
I’m really excited for this one. Love the idea, love the names associated with it, but……
That release date. That scares me. They usually off load the bad stuff around that time. Or maybe it’s so just so unconventional the marketers didn’t know what to do with it (?).
I only heard about this movie when I read some gossip about a brawl between Shia and Tom. That’d be stupid of Shia to pick a fight w/ Bane, ahah.
Haha! He’s got no chance!
Hahaha, Shia loses that fight before even starting.
Sounds like a film that would be right up my street!!!
(Apart from The Beef!!)
Cast has got me interested in this film. Well, like everyone else, apart from Shia. Here’s hoping he’s shunned for 95% of the film. No?
Interesting cast choice. Looks like Malick and Chastain hit it off well enough with Tree of Life to do another project together.
Shia has made some poor film choices. Even the ones that should be good – re: Indiana Jones turn out to be bad. I hope this is a change of fortune for him.
I had to laugh… my initial comment was going to be “Dammit, Shia LaWhatever’s in this? I was looking forward to this movie”. And then I saw in the comments that apparently everyone else thinks he sucks, too.
