Jeremy Renner in Talks to Replace Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Motor City’

Just a week ago, we brought you word that Jake Gyllenhaal was in talks to replace Dominic Cooper in Albert Hughes’ Motor City. Well scratch that, it seems that Warner Bros./Dark Castle couldn’t close the deal. Twitch now reports that Jeremy Renner is in negotiations to take on the role.

This is the latest development in a troublesome trend of actors dropping out of the lead role. Chris Evans was first attached to star but Dominic Cooper eventually replaced him. Then about a week ago, he had to drop out due to scheduling issues and Jake Gyllenhaal stepped in. Or so we thought… In any case, Renner would be a very good choice and probably even more compelling than any of the previously mentioned actors.

The Black List script by Chad St. John centers on a small-time felon who begins to hunt down the people who framed him after he is released from prison. The big twist is that the protagonist only speaks one line of dialogue in the entire movie. Amber Heard is already attached to play the female love interest and Gary Oldman will take on the role of a manipulative kingpin-type who may have his ways with Heard’s character.

What do you think?

  1. I’m starting to think there maybe something about the script turning off actors. Or maybe i still find the one line of dialogue thing rather gimmicky
