Michael Fassbender in Talks to Climb ‘The Mountain Between Us’

Few actors are as in-demand as Irish heartthrob Michael Fassbender and understandably so. He has rare screen presence, is incredibly charismatic and audiences clamor to see more of him. The rising star has added another intriguing project to his perpetually growing slate as Variety reports that Fassbender is early negotiations to star in Gerardo Naranjo’s adaptation of The Mountain Between Us.

The romantic drama, adapted from Charles Martin’s best-selling novel, centers on two strangers who are involved in a plane crash in the Colorado wilderness. Stranded and having to closely rely on each another for survival, they eventually fall for each other. Fassbender would take on the role of Ben, a doctor and avid climber who must help an injured writer, Ashley, to safety.

While this sounds like the premise of a Hallmark Channel movie, Fassbender’s involvement gives this project a lot more credibility. He showed last year with the excellent Jane Eyre that he has no problem doing romantic dramas. I haven’t seen Naranjo’s acclaimed directorial effort Miss Bala but have heard great things about it. It certainly will be interesting to see who is cast as the female lead.

Fassbender will next be seen in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi flick Prometheus. He is also next set to highlight Scott’s The Counselor. He will then reteam with Shame director Steve McQueen for Twelve Years a Slave.

Who do you think should be cast as the female co-star? Let us know below!

Love me some Fassbender, but when I read the description of the film I was like, “huh”? But it is early days so …

As for the female role, I think I would want to skim the source material to get a picture in my head

It is hard to say who the female lead should be without reading the book. But it must be someone good.

  8. JJ says:

    Prometheus looks great.
